CMBN Historical Timeframe

Recommended Posts

BFC's being pretty persnickety about dates of introduction. They've already pulled a couple vehicles/weapons, postponed others arrival date til August and Septamber (or the Bulge title). They shifted the introduction on one vehicle just yesterday! There was a fairly intense debate whether the Sherman "Rhino" was specifically the Culin hedgecutter or if the concept encompasses earlier designs too. That makes all the difference in its arrival date in-game.

And which battles will you be able to play in the game?

That's getting into specifics of the campaigns and scenarios which ship with the game, which AFAIK I'm not at liberty to divulge.

However, once everyone gets the scen editor in their hands you will be able to make any engagement between US Army and Wehrmacht forces that happened in that timeframe (except in cases where the Wehrmacht used extremely bizarre equipment that isn't included in the list).

As I recall this is nothing new as there was one version of the PZ III in the original release of CMAK that was deliberetly removed in a patch as it was believed it never saw action in North Africa then reintroduced in a subsequent patch as further research indicated it might have been.

This is what Steve wrote 7.4.2009:

"Tagge,

Smaragdadler's synopsis is correct when looking at the whole of the 1st WW2 "Family" of games. That means the base Title and the follow up Modules. The initial base game will cover June through roughly August sometime. The whole Family will cover up to roughly September.

We're not big on hammering down exact dates (e.g. June 6, 1944 - August 12, 1944) at this point because they're not entirely relevant. By that I mean if we said "the game will only simulate June 7 - June 10th, 1944" you could still make plenty of historically accurate battles going into about September with a careful selection of forces. What you couldn't do is simulate a battle in September which used equipment/units that weren't available in June."

Some add to my 'Steve approved' synopsis. This map shows how far the 'story' of CM:BN Base + British Module will go:

front26811944.jpg

The second Modul will cover The Battle of Arnhem aka 'Op Market Garden' (September 17 - Septemper 26/27). Means basically a Paratroops in 'Frau Antje' setting. Windmills, dykes, canals, many more different type of bridges, clogs, tulips and cheese etc. This plus we will get Polish Paras, Luftwaffe ground troops (?), maybe some dutch uncons.

This map shows the Westfront at the time CM:BN an all it's possible modules will end:

So all engagements till this point should be possible to simulate with CMBN, at least the equipment and troops/formations. From the landscape we will have summer NW continental europe with accentuation of Normandy + Brabant and Gelderland.
