Scenario Editor Request-Map/Image Overlay

The function to load an image like a satellite .bmp/jpg over the main map editor in 2d view would make real-world terrain replication easier. If this function could also have scalable transparency that would also be a great help. If the new games could utilize something like the above, proper scale and terrain placement (particularly in urban terrain) would be a great deal easier to do by eye.

The idea is probably as old as the forum (Sorry, Ben!!!)

Chances that it get's implemented are too close to zero to be distinguishable.

The programming effort to manipulate a single bitmap in the suggested way appears to be minimal to me. But then again a lot of things do so, like drag-and-drop for flavor objects.

I just admire the guys who draw those real-world maps with the existing tools!

Yes its a pain in the dangly things having to alt-tab, however it is the only show in town right now. There are ways to speed the process up such as the simple expedient of printing off your desired area in Google Earth and Cpl Steiner has posted some great tips with Google Earth to aid the process such as using a freeware program called GE Path which allows you to overlay a grid on your Google Earth image. This grid is scalable to whatever you desire so for example you can set the interval to 8m by 8m (the tile size in the editor).
