Man, I have to wonder what it would take to have Nvidia & ATI just make a "slower yet compatible" driver, one that obeys all the DirectX rules properly (even if the twitch kids lose frame rates in bleeding edge titles.) There must be countless older titles that would benefit from this...

Second thought - what would it cost to have a single Nvidia or ATI "contractor" (ex-driver programmer, or current one at nights) to give us a CMBB & CMAK driver like the aforementioned? And perhaps find a way to enable wide screen support?

Sorry. I'll just grab another beer... (mumbles to self)

I wouldn't slam Vista in its entirity...

I have an XP disc setting right here on my desk and I am running and enjoying Vista 64. I don't feel ripped off in any way. I just chuckle at the Internet guys who claim I have been ripped-off. If and when I tire of Vista I will purchase the next operating system that I become interested in or reload XP. I have no problem purchasing software that I want to use and a new Operating System is nothing more then just another piece of software. Maybe Nvidia will straighten out their drivers.

Class action time?

"Although the person behind http://www.nvidiaclassaction.org/ has put out feelers to law firms about handling a class-action suit, he or she would rather not have to resort to the legal system. Saying that "Attorneys are the only ones that make money from class action suits," the owner of nvidiaclassaction.org says that the site will be taken down if NVIDIA would respond publicly to the issues and apologize to those affected, forego the "Ready for Vista"/"Designed for Vista" labeling until the OS is fully supported, provide an anticipated release date for fully-functional drivers, and offer a "token gesture" like a free t-shirt. Perez told Ars that the company is "aware of the site and is watching it regularly."

I actually have the Nvidia 8500GT card. The game will run under vista, but the video problem is that when your scoping the layout of the terrain out, and "ctrl-click" around a few times, the part of the old video screen shots in the background are not overwritten with "black". You still see the previous screenshot, where it still extends beyond the current screen shot boundaries. So like you can see the victory flag for a hill, and way off to the side is the same hill & flag (beyond the edge of the current battlefield screenshot).

I am going to have to go back to the laptop to play the game. I tried the tweakguide, it was interesting but no cigar, thanks.
