CMplayer
I was playing around with a couple of Vietnam scenarios using CMBB. The Germans represented the USA, the Soviets NVA, Partisans VietCong. The problem was that I used 50mm mortar teams to represent the M79s, but the guys were a bit slow keeping up. Apart from that you could get a decent feel for it (from my purely second hand experience of course). Main gripe (apart from the terrain) was that it might have been better with the rifle firepower being upped a bit. One scenario had a platoon enter a booby-trapped village (with a 1000 point flag in it) and clear it of a couple of snipers: then they had to hold there for 1 hour. During that hour the woodsline around the village fills with about a battalion of NVA. Woops. They've got lots of artillery, though. One was the typical night company defence position getting attacked by the 'big one' (viet sappers breaching minefields and the works).

Kitty
Someone I know made a scenario of LZ Xray using SS vs Partisans. It's really cool even though it's not done yet! But still we need CM to help us with Indochina troop sets and stuff! I'm sure they will if we whine enough 'cause they're so nice. =) Kitty

She's making a reasonable request. Two, we're all whining for CMX2: just that the engine will cut its teeth on Vietnam. Frankly, WWII is getting a bit boring.
Sergei
Originally posted by CMplayer: Frankly, WWII is getting a bit boring. Maybe for you silly Swede types who let the whole event pass. As a background for others, nothing except cheap porn and bad vodka has gotten Sweden excited for nearly 200 years, and back then Sweden lost to France and got a French king (well that kinda explains, though)! The greatest Swedish military success since those days of infamy has been to sink a Soviet submarine with a strategically positioned coast. However this doesn't mean that the Swedish war flag wouldn't be easily recognisable by all. It has a white cross on a white background. If you think you have been offended, you can always challenge me... if not, I will continue on this.

Sergei
Really, why on earth would anyone be interested in Vietnam? The US involvement in that war can be presented with those already available for CMBB, they all were the same. Thick jungle, some G.I's and lots of Charlies. The tactical situation was very lopsided and it was because of the strategic problems that the US couldn't win. If I had to point out some of the most uninteresting conflicts of 20th century for a squad level game, that would be one. If BFC decides to go post-WW2, then I'd expect them to pick something interesting, like the Ethiopia-Eritrean conflict, Arab-Israeli wars, Korean war, Iraq-Iran war and of course the Indian-Pakistani wars. Even the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan would be tactically more interesting and varying, there you'd at least have heavily armed but poorly trained soldiers against lightly armed but experienced guerrillas.

And if you are not a American Vietnam doesn't hold much interest.

Have you actually studied the subject? Vietnam (both the French Indochina war and the American involvment) is full of interesting tactical situations, which would work well at the scale of CM.

The thing is, most wars have more of them. But what would a Swede know. Is it okay if I choose the scenario and you choose your side?
Airborne
I recall an old game by Electronic Arts (I think) called Seal Team. I had loads of fun with it in its Vietnam setting.
