Moon
Battlefront.com and CDV Software Entertainment are proud to announce a cooperation to bring the two Combat Mission titles ("CM1: Beyond Overlord" and "CM2: Barbarossa to Berlin") to North American retail this year. CM1 will be available in May from all major retailers as a "Special Edition" for $29.99 recommended retail price. The "Special Edition" will feature over 100 additional top-rated scenarios (for a total of 150), improved hi-resolution terrain and environment graphics (including some totally new building textures), vehicles and uniforms mods (including winter mods), and improved sound. The boxed version will come with a fully printed 200+ page game manual, and will be available for PC only. Later this year in Q4, CM2: Barbarossa to Berlin will become available also in retail, most likely with a similar set of improved features. The CM1 retail "Special Edition" is equal in gameplay to the current Combat Mission: Beyond Overlord (v1.12) sold by Battlefront.com but benefits from new high resolution graphics for vehicles and terrain (many contributed by the CM Mod Community, some adapted from CMBB) and updated sound effects. The Special Editions will be available only via retail, they will not be sold online.
lcm1947
Smart. Very smart idea. Good luck you guys should do extremely well. Heck I might even buy CMBB then.
lcm1947
Hmmm? Not a lot of excitment out of this CMBO bun ch tonight. Probably all hung over or something. Now I'm kind of looking forward to trying CMBB.

Lanzfeld
I have CMBO (just look at my member number) but I think I will buy this new addition anyway to support the team. I still have to get CMBB though.
markshot
Will the special addition scenarios be made available as download for existing owners of CMBO? Thanks.
Firefly
From the posts on the CMBB board, they will be scenarios that are already available on Boots and Tracks and Der Kessel. When the CDV version of CMBO was released in Europe it also came with an additional disc containing mods and scenarios, but it looks like the additions for the US retail version will be different.
Snarker
Moon, If I was to purchase the retail CMBO, could I just load the graphics and scenarios from the disk? I ask because I assume (so I may be wrong) that CDV will slap their annoying copy protection on the disk, and I'd rather use the copy I originally purchased from you fellas because of that.
Moon
Actually I think that the US retail Special Edition will not have the European copy protection. I'm *almost* certain in fact. Martin

markshot
Moon, Would it be possible to get a list of the additional scenarios which will be included in the retail version? I would like to make sure that I get a chance to play them. (There are more than 1,000 downloadable scenarios for CMBO. So, sometimes, it's a little hard to know what to play.) Thanks!
Tank Ace
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I have been waiting for it to come out to retailers forever. THANK YOU VERY MUCH CM PPL!!!!!!!!
Ralph Beaman
Is this retail release going to be worth the $, with all the new inprovements? Are the graphics going to be the same as CMBB, or are the improvements going to be a few tweaks and a few new scenarios?
Moon
The graphics will not be exactly the same as CMBB, because there are no engine changes between the CMBO Special Edition and the current 1.12 that we are selling. But the graphics included in the package are higher resolution than the originals for CMBO, and in fact some are converted from CMBB. For somebody who owns a fully modded CMBO 1.12 with a bunch of downloaded scenarios, I am not sure if it's worth the purchase except as collectible. There are 100 additional scenarios (so it's more than "a few"), but most if not all are available from various websites. So the real value will be to new customers, or CMBO owners who don't have the bandwidth or time to download hundreds of MB of mods I'd say. And since this has been requested before - here a list of the additional scenarios. In seperate post, also a list of the optional mods included on the CD. Besides the optional mods, the CD also contains new "default" graphics (e.g. terrain) which are not listed here. Ralph Beaman
So if i download the 1.12 patch from Battlefront will it be the same thing as the retail version of CMBO?
Moon
Gameplaywise yes. But you don't get the extra graphics or scenarios in the 1.12 patch. You'd have to find and download them separately from the various fan sites. Martin
Jack57
Moon, At what retailers will CMBO be available and when will it be release? Thanks, Jack
Moon
I know that EB has it listed already in their online shop (release: May 27th), and that Gamestop has it also or will shortly. For Canada, EB Canada and Future Shop are certain. Not sure about others, though I am sure that sooner or later it will be available from most outlets and chains. I don't think that CDV is planning to do a selective release, but it takes longer to list products with certain retailers than others, so it might not be everywhere at the very same date. MarkEzra
I checked out Comp USA and they say CMBO/SE will be on the shelves in June. I'm gonna pick up a copy for all the Mod's...I changed PC's and lost my MOD's as well as my fast internet connection all at once. CMBO/SE is just the solution I was looking for. As for supporting CM...absolutely the right thing to do. This is one Company that pays attention to it's consumers and has a vision of what wargaming should be. Not always the easiest thing to balance.
tacitrain
is the tcp/ip bug fixed with CM:BO? where you capture a guy and the game freezes? I know alot of people have had problems with it. billybubb
i think it is a very good thing for cm to be sold as a retail version. i'm quite sure there are a lot of gamera out there that do feel a bit hesitant about buying on-line [for security reasons] and threfore miss out on a great playig experience.i prsonally like all the added features, even though i got most of the mods u described but i sure would like to see the higher resolution game for myslf.that means i will most likely buy the game again.
Moon
Tomorrow is the day! I just heard that EB, Gamestop and other retailers (in US and Canada) should have the Special Edition on the shelves from tomorrow on, and should be fully stocked until friday.
