Where's my discussion forum?

Since yesterday, there doesn't appear to be a link from the BFC front page to these discussion forums. The only thing listed are the various games. There is a login option, but I think it's just for the store because my forum login didn't work.

The only reason I was able to come here to make this post is because at the very bottom of the game listings there is a link to "Tech Support Forum."

Did someone mess up the website code or is it a user error on my end? The latter is entirely possible because I'm still having teething problems with my new Win10 installation.

At https://www.battlefront.com  click on the Community menu entry at the top of the home page. This will take you here: https://www.battlefront.com/community

Then click on the link to this forum.

My website resolution was too large. I see the "Community" link, as well as the others, now that I've zoomed out by one level.

You can see this yourself by pressing the Ctrl key and moving your mousewheel to change the website resolution. At a certain point as you zoom in, the links will be gone.

I think it's unusual to have hotlinks simply disappear from a webpage at different resolutions. If those links had appeared at some weird location on the page, I would have known what the problem was.

Anyway, thanks for responding.

It is and that would qualify as "not good". At first I though you missed the hamburger menu button that appears once you zoom in but the top level links are not in that menu page. So, you are correct they just go away. @BFCElvis @Battlefront.com this seems like a bug in the web page responsiveness design.

Rob I'm not seeing that here - Win11 in my case.

It's a browser thing not an OS think. With the home page up in your favourite browser click <ctrl>+ a few times until the menu entries are replaced by a hamburger menu (square icon with three horizontal lines on it). Normally that control will display the menu when you click on it. It does display a menu but that menu does not include a link to the community.

To get things back to how you like to view them press <ctrl>- a few times or <ctrl>0 to restore to 100%.

It may be a browser thing. It certainly isn't anything that we can control.

I use Chrome and, like @Vacillator, I still see everything and the link to the forum works. I wouldn't call it "end user error" @Rob2020 but it does seem to vary depending on someone's computer.

Wrong direction, see if the menu disappears when you zoom in more.

But yeah, in any case it seems to be a browser setting issue.

Zooming works fine for me too.

And you're correct. It is a browser issue and not somefink we have any control over on the back end part of our website.

Okay, so the menu remains visible for some people, but not for others, depending on what browser they're using, what magnification, and perhaps on their OS.

At least admins are now aware of this, if they weren't before.

ps - Amused to see "somefink" is still being referenced. Twenty years of somefinks is, after all, something.

Nope that is not it at all.....

We are not talking about the once you get to the Community page: https://www.battlefront.com/community We are talking about navigating to that page from the home page.

Once you zoom in enough that top level menu goes away:

Normally the hamburger menu should show the menu contents but on your site it does not:

If I zoom to 200% on the home page I get the hamburger.

I'm using Chrome on Win10, and for me the menu disappears at 150%.

However, these percentages are greatly affected by the setting of text size that a person uses on their browser (as I just tested this). On my Win10, a slider for the adjustment of text size is found in: Settings > Ease Of Access. Using that slider, I have my text size set to 125%, which happens to be the same percentage as the setting I adjusted to here at the site by pressing Ctrl and rolling the mouse wheel. At other sites, those two settings might not necessarily be the same, depending on the website layout.

When I increased the slider setting to a huge 200%, the Battleground Front Page menu went away at about 100%, adjusted with Ctrl and mouse wheel.

So, yeah, might be something the admins should consider. As I said previously, yesterday I was only one notch away from being able to see/not see the menu. I mean, it works fine for me now, since I know what the problem was, but some other potential customers might run into this issue as well.

And, frankly, my vision isn't that bad, as I only use reading glasses. I don't need glasses for anything else.

Hah! A million years (it seems) sitting in front of the computer all day and I never knew about CTRL-mouse wheel. 😁

Here's another useful little Windows tip many people don't know about:

You know how you occasionally close a window or tab, only to change your mind a moment later and wish you hadn't closed it for some reason and want/need to go back to it? All you have to do it press Ctrl+Shift+t and the window or tab will reappear. And yes, you can do this repeatedly to bring back many previously closed windows and tabs. Try it.

And I can confirm that the above "trick" still works even after you've turned off your computer. I turn mine off at night, and the first thing I did this morning after opening my browser was press Ctrl+Shift+t and it took me right back to the MILF page on Pornhub where I left off last night before I went to bed.

😉
