Hull-down command

Hi,

I just noticed in the hotkeys screen that there is a new hull-down command (at least new to me). Can anyone explain how it works? I can't find any documentation on it.

I suspect that it is a preparation for when Engine 4.0 is released which will have that feature.

I think it might reduce the amount of micromanagement by more than half, in a lot of the most micro intensive situations.  It takes longer to place the final destination fighting position for just one vehiclethan to order a multi-waypoint move for a whole company across half the map, sometimes.

Not knowing how it works yet, let's just say that you place hull down point at the position you want the unit to find hull down towards, and it will move towards until it has LOF. Probably too late for v4, but could be useful if "hull down" was extended to infantry as well, since you cannot really lower the camera to the infantry point of view. If you could place hull down points such that units would move to acquire LOF on the target position in their default combat orientation. For example, rifle squads would move such that they have LOF when prone. Crew served MG's might move such that they have LOF with the MG when deployed. In CMBS, ATGM units might move to a position such that their deployed launcher have LOF.

i hope they realy make then option to Ai moment path, that Ai group stop movemend when they find hull down position. would be nice tool to improve scenarios.

Am curious how BF makes the new "hull-down" command superior in execution than the old one was.  I recall it was a "disaster" (in the immortal words of Trump) because the system would find hull-down positions that were usually in the wrong direction and which usually exposed the flank of the tank to other enemy AT weapons.  It was one of those commands that nobody ever used more than once.  So, this will be interesting...

Not sure how this will work. Hull down is relative to a certain point on the map. It is not an absolute status. A tank can be hull down in relation to point A but not hull down in relation to point B

If it's anything like Steel Beasts Pro 'hull down' command then it can work OK. In that game the AFV would find a hull down position relative to its target or a threat.
