invernomuto
Hello, I am playing "Lemon Hill" scenario with the Italians. I have three Brixia 45mm mortar squads, they show up in the artillery support panel but they're "KNOCKED OUT". The squads are still intact, the weapon is deployed and they fire normally in direct fire. Both me and my opponent have latest patch and Gustav Line module installed. Screen attached.
rocketman
I remember that scenario and that the mortars only have a range of 550 m or so, which makes them useless at the start. But it was before GL and they wasn't "knocked out".
womble
That sounds like a glitch. If the mortar icon's still there in the team's info panel, they should be "out of contact" or "denied" if they're unavailable from the FO you're trying to use. Though they're often best used in direct fire (on Target Light), partly due to their very short range.
MikeyD
Think of those mini mortars as glorified grenade launchers, like the postwar Russian 30mm ASG-17. I think is funny that intel reports described the weapon as an over-designed, heavy, limited utility HE thrower. Then after the war we all field our own over-designed heavy automatic HE throwers... with triple the range.

Did you by any chance start the scenario before installing GL? This is the kind of glitch that seems to work its way in when updating a game in progress (even if you save it during the orders phase).
black_prince
I recently played a scenario in which the brixias didn't appear in the artillery roster at all. Posted in another thread but it doesn't seem to have gotten any attention.
Lethaface
I believed Brixia's couldn't be used in indirect mode, like the British small calibre mortar. In that case it shouldn't appear in the fire support menu though.

I think I've used them before without the Gustav line in indirect fire mode, though that was at deployment.
akd
They used to be available for indirect fire, but the ability was removed in v1.10. A save from before 1.10 would exhibit issues.

Mmmm, it could be, my opponent bought GL after me and probabily the scenario was already going. I have to check with him. Thanks.
MG TOW
Keep your heads down boys! I called in some 45mm danger close .... My guess is it was removed as an indirect option in a later version for historical accuracy. If mixed patched versions could play H2H in this case then I am more so surprised about that.
MikeyD
Aha! I just recalled something from a looooong time ago and went to test it out. In QB if you order your Brixias as part of an integrated mortar platoon they will be capable of indirect fire. If you purchase them as individual 'Specialist Teams' outside of the TO&E they won't be able to receive indirect firing orders. When you do a QB where the AI does the picking its liable to grab units out of 'Specialist Teams' just to fill its points quota. And those units will be out of the loop. Its different in the scenario editor, I believe 'Specialist Teams' get embedded in whichever unit you assign them to so are properly in C&C.
