John Kettler
Found this great thread on German antitank rifles, some of which were also used by the italians. This should help those of you unfamiliar with these weapons understand what you've got. http://www.ww2incolor.com/forum/showthread.php?3357-Antitank-Rifles-amp-Machineguns Wiki's also helpful http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solothurn_S-18/100 The guy in the pic's using binos. You can't readily tell, but elsewhere other pics exist which make this clear. His firing position also has overhead cover. nik mond
These were significantly reduced in number and almost non existent by July 1943. Except for the shorter grenade launcher version of the pzb39 maybe.
John Kettler
nik mond, True, but the Solothurn was still in service and also formed the primary armament, I believe, of one of the Italian tankettes, the L3 cc. I do not know whether the latter was still in service and do not have the game, so cannot check the equipment lists. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Captured_L3_and_L3_cc_tankettes.jpg Regards, John Kettler
Rokko
given how useless even the Italian 47mm ATG is, I don't see what one would need ATRs for. Though I'd like to see them of course in a CM game again sooner or later.
John Kettler
Rokko, The Solothurn is semiautomatic 20mm cannon. How'd you like to catch one through your vision block, observation slit, gun shield or a bunch of other unpleasant locations I can name? This thing will eat halftracks and armored cars no sweat and should be very difficult to locate at any kind of range. akd
Yeah, the Solothurn is in the game already...mounted on an AS 42.
MikeyD
I notice the Solothurn AT gun weighs just about as much as a .50 cal HMG! yikes! Six times the weight of a B.A.R. Imagine you're the poor malnourished conscript seleted to tote that monster around the battlefield.
John Kettler
MikeyD, That why it has a wheeled carriage. One man can pull it. There's a pic in the ATR thread I posted a link to. akd, Is it available on a ground mount, too? Regards, John Kettler
