Tactical Wargamer
Just noticed a quick posting on my facebook from one of our wargamers. Any comments I can send back to him? Re. The King Tiger. re. the latest screen CW screen shots. Thanks! "Looks interesting, and maybe it's the angle but the hull of the Bengal Tiger on frame 10 looks a little squat for 21 feet. (33 feet with gun forward)"

flamingknives
Literal translation is "King Tiger" The animal described by the German "Koenigs Tiger" is a Bengal Tiger
Michael Emrys
Ah. Language can be a subtle maze, especially moving from one to another. Michael
Childress
Thought it was 'Königstiger'?
Field Marshal Blücher
Thought it was 'Königstiger'? "oe" and "ö" are interchangeable. And the space was probably added to make us English-speakers able to parse it more easily.
Wodin
Also I expect type face reasons...my keyboard can't produce those letters with dots above them..I expect type writers couldn't either...
Lt Belenko
"oe" and "ö" are interchangeable. And the space was probably added to make us English-speakers able to parse it more easily. The "oe" also helped eliminate the need to put the paper in the typewriter sideways and substitute a colon for an umlaut.
flamingknives
I probably could have put an umlaut in, but oe is a recognised substitute. The space is because I am an Englishman and hence somewhat poor at writing foreign.
Michael Emrys
...my keyboard can't produce those letters with dots above them... Are you absolutely sure? You might look into some combination of Alt+letter (U for instance). Michael

Field Marshal Blücher
Are you absolutely sure? You might look into some combination of Alt+letter (U for instance). Michael Or, if you (like me) find yourself typing stuff in German fairly often, there's a way to (in Windows at least) switch between keyboard configurations. So if I want to type an umlaut or a ß, I just hit Alt+Shift and it will switch to a German keyboard, and then I just hit it again to change it back to English.
Tactical Wargamer
hehe nice discussion on the the Bengal tiger aspect. How do the proportions of the TIger look to you? Would you say the frame 10 looks correct?
Michael Emrys
hehe nice discussion on the the Bengal tiger aspect. How do the proportions of the TIger look to you? Would you say the frame 10 looks correct? Well, it doesn't look squat—meaning vertically compressed—to me. It does seem a bit shortened—longitudinally compressed—to me though. Can't say if the dimensions of the model are off or if it is just an artifact of the camera angle. Or maybe I just misremember what a Königstiger looks like. umlaut
substitute a colon for an umlaut. Accept no substitutions for me
Michael Emrys
...substitute a colon for an umlaut. Do you mean he's supposed to cut out a piece of his gut every time he wants to place an umlaut? Man, that's cold! Michael
