  1. My next game will be FI, to make a game of a war which never happened is difficult. Same with SF2 have not touched it for ages.
  2. An ISU 152 of world war two spots with no problems. It was one of the functions of tank riders and the German army copied this practice too. They were more or less cannon fodder and the tactic works in Red Thunder. Low quality troops on or near your tanks and the contact icons are shared all over the battle field. I hear enough negative stuff of the Cold War to leave that game alone. I would suggest that Soviet optics would have improved 30 years later.
  3. It is not rocket science when it comes to unit selection and combat stress. @semmes you need to watch the area I highlighted. If that fills up yellow or red the unit or units will show erratic behaviour. It means it will frustrate a click-fest. Units will do things which defy logic.
  4. Scope shooting at point blank that's when he puts the cross on. Even this expert misses so now and then. Match ammo in a top quality rifle. The animals he shoots are feral pests he is actually protecting native wild life.
  5. True and you have to learn first how to use a scope. I always use bullseye shooters as an example. The beginner tries to hold the sight on the bullseye and can't keep the shots on the paper. An Olympic shooter is actually doing area fire. He doesn't even see the bullseye it is all blurry but by discipline he knows how to group inside the ten ring. A scope rifle you need to know where to aim and it is never on the target. The MG 42 or even the M60 iron sights at 500-800 yards it is called area fire you aim at a group lucky if you hit anything. The game actually models it very well.
  6. You are on the right track, but I am not keen to test it. It could also to pick up the weapon the squad is missing. Ammunition also plays a role possibly.
  7. The water cooled Vickers and the Russian Maxims shot regular rifle ammo and were classified as HMG's in WW2 because they were belt fed and required a tripod. The MG 42 function in both roles. The .50 Browning was a class apart during WW2.
  8. Comparing apples and oranges. The BAR and also the Bren can be used as a regular self loading rifle and in that role more accurate than the MG 42. The MG 42 however can double up as an HMG and in that role far superior.
  9. 9mm para is also the caliber of SMG's now there is one but. To use 9mm designated for SMG's is not to be used for example the Browning HP even they will chamber it. The modern HK is more for police work and it is possible it uses regular 9mm para. The brass is also different you can't reload military brass as it has two flashholes. I suspect in WW2 SMG's were loaded for higher pressures than the present day civilian market.
  10. Just listening how it relates to the game and how people have issues. Hull down is not as straight forward as it seems. C2, once among your own infantry unbutton and you get far more contacts. Spotting is team work optics alone gives you tunnel vision. Listening to him just confirms other veterans. They volunteered to fight communism not their own countrymen. They wanted to be allied with Germany and not to become Germans in a greater Germania. The Flemish SS underwent a name change and became Langemark not very popular at the time. There were a few more instances they fell out with the German command.
  11. A pity if you turn on the English subtitles it is way off. Bordering on the ridiculous, but this man is a goldmine of useful information. It presses the importance of having infantry near you armor at all times. The Stugs had most of the times a party of a man of five on top. He described them a cannon fodder. Hull down positions, hard to find but extremely important. What we call horizontal communication: Lieutenant of the Wehrmacht equipped with binoculars: "Look behind you!" There he saw 14 tanks approaching their rear. I just say it again the English translation is at best cryptic, also I am not 100% familiar with the Flemish version of Dutch.
  12. The Battle for the Causeway was only a small part of the battle. Later proved it was unnecessary but the Canadian morale never broke even as they lost most of their officers. So the Dutch resistance didn't play a key part in it but it is after all an movie.
  13. Yes his experiences near Leningrad. Yes even in the game where the MP40 never jams. The K98 protects the MG42 the MP40 if you split them up is for an assault. Yes in the game once your SMG is at 100 meters its fire power equals an LMG and there is plenty of them.
  14. There are too many variables in the game to come to a sensible conclusion.
  15. From an SS Veteran they preferred the K98 above the MP40. The K98 never jammed the MP 40 picked up snow dirt accumulated too easy in the slide. Accuracy goes without saying over 100 meters the 9mm start to drop in performance dramatically. Submachine guns our more suited for urban combat.
  16. Here is what the Tank Museum has to say about the T72. Sure enough it can have an M60 for breakfast. T-72 main battle tank (1972) (tanks-encyclopedia.com)
  17. It could work out to replace PBEM not to rent but just play the game with a version of the software in the cloud so to speak. We don't need to send huge files by mail.
  18. BN CW My Honor is Loyalty another example. the Aufklarung is embedded with the Panther Kompanie but they share their links off map by radio.
  19. I remember reading something about the protocol. Commander spots a target and lines up a laser, the laser paints the target and by a computer adjust the optics for the main gun. The technology ensures a 90 % hit probability not the optics itself.
  20. At least somebody talks some sense. It is like bullseye shooting most people manage a group inside the 8 ring the elite keep 80% in the ten ring and the flyers go in the 9 ring. All can see the bullseye target. Spotting doesn't mean you will hit the target. In the game if your unit spots, his weapon will fire automatically.
  21. How big is the wall? and how big is your unit? Take a house for example. You better split your unit up before entering or the game may split your units up for you. Some will take the backdoor others the front door. The stress factor also plays a role when you split units up you will see that only 3 or 4 troops are nervous while the others are OK. I am not here to argue with anyone just share a different style of playing. It doesn't mean yours is wrong. Kind regards
  22. It has become crystal clear why T72 tanks are bad at spotting.
