  1. Here's a video about the organization/tactics of a German infantry squad. Are you grateful that they're dead?
  2. Fantastic videos, really opened up my eyes how the US squad differed from the Commonwealth section! Sure would like to see more about other countrys' squads/sections. Especially the Soviets, as their squad/section structure never fails to puzzle me.
  3. I don't see why not. Could be used by the BLAST command. I am curious if the BLAST command would do anything to mines. BLAST is my preferred method of breaching the worst kind of obstacle: the bocage.
  4. I was clearing a mined road with sappers, and then slowly moving my T-84 Oplot-M over the marked squares. All of a sudden -- boom! The tank lost a tread and was almost useless. Teaches me to clear mines -- I usually just go around them, after a GI or two spontaneously combust on squares which read "MINE ME". Can sappers fail to spot mines when slowly moving over mined squares? Can they also fail to mark all of them? Can Mad Max tank drivers accidentally drive their tank on a marked mine? Battle for Normandy had the funnies clearing mines. Why don't modern tanks get plows and rollers for the T-34s?
  5. Not an expert myself. Apparently, those weren't T-72BAs, but T-72M1Vs! Ian better take advantage of the Rarity, and roll out some MEXAS or even 2a6Ms. That's right. I forgot about that giant ball of plasma at the center of the solar system. I can imagine shade is very much desired in desert conditions.
  6. I'm pretty hyped for this one. The Syrian models look great. I don't know who would drive in a canvas covered UAZ in the hot desert, though. Let's Go... Syria! So, how does Rarity work in this one? Did you specifically purchase ubiquitous units or is it disabled/not implemented? Are T-72M1 with TURMS-T common? I only remember seeing a platoon of T-72BAs with it. (mark the T-72 variants bingo space)
  7. The only version I would except, outside of the original Falco version, is one animated by Ralph Bakshi.
  8. COIN is the primary currency in CM:SF and on this forum. Every time you get a Bingo! you receive a COIN. COINs can be used to buy BATTLE CRATES, which contain premiums skins (for NATO, SAA an UNCONs!), as well as templates for "Deeply regret to inform you" letters for casualties' families.
  9. If only they could wreck their own 30mm barrels in closer ranges... I lost a perfectly good Oplot-M to that thing!
  10. Speaking of K98s and rifle grenades? Where in the bloody hell is the Propaganda-Gewehr Granate? How am I supposed to indoctrinate the populace without shooting propaganda through their windows? I have yet to find them in game! Where's the 'accuracy'? You're telling me this game doesn't model the single, most direct, form of media ever projected from the barrel of a gun? (/sarcasm) (would you like to know more: http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/ttt09/propaganda-rifle-grenade.html )
  11. Right, I almost forgot that was a thing. I remember hearing that the lifehack for that was to fill them up with sand. What's a Plissa?
  12. Well, you have truly outdone me there, then. I have never heard of a T-80UA. The concept makes sense, it's a non-command T-80UK. When you want a thermal imager, but don't want radios. Reading more about the T-80 makes me wish there was a decent sim of it. Closest thing I've played have been the red hammer Arma 3 mods. Cool source: https://thesovietarmourblog.blogspot.com/2016/02/t-80-gambol.html Includes anything you could possibly want to know. From sighting systems to composite armour compositions to the crew compartments of various variants. It only dawned on me, now -- that NATO variants are MUCH easier to identify. Less variants, and more differences between them. T-90SA is the welded turret export variant (no shtora), right? I've been hearing a lot about the Saudis buying 900 BMP 3s. I find that hard to believe. I think all of the RF has about 900 BMP 3s. My main issue with the BMP3 is the weird way that the infantry has to disembark. I think it was better in the BMP 1 and 2s.
  13. That's a shame. As I found the hard way -- those things are beasts. No wonder they are so widely exported. I can count 4. T-80UK has 6... T-80U had 4. Export variants had 4 (export variants didn't have that MG mount). T-80UD had 4. I'm guessing this is a post-soviet variant. T-84s have the smoke discharges behind the side ERA. Couldn't find any T-80s with 4 smokes and shtora boxes.
  14. Well, in my experience in development, it's important to focus on critical and, yet, attainable goals. Much like how any offensive/defensive has to focus its resources and efforts at the "right" points. So it is with games. Could CM have much-requested features like dynamic campaigns, co-op and MULTI-player? Hypothetically, sure. Yet, in development -- everything is a trade-off. When you focus on one aspect, others become weaker. This is just as true for small developers, as well as large developers. I would even argue that this chaotic changing of focus, in order to meet forecasted demand, is why the video game industry is in the state it is now. I think the most shining, and current, example would be this Battle Royale phase that plagued this year's E3. There are plenty of developers of big game franchises that bit the dust after they lost focus of what made them popular and profitable. Great many of these failures also came from putting too much money into titles that catered to a specific audience. BFC knows what CM does, and knows their audience intimately. They know their focus and how many resources are required. I respect that -- it's rare, these days. All I am saying is be careful what you wish for. You could get Mass Effect: Andromeda.
  15. Yeah, man. That's why I didn't see it. They used to have posters everywhere and their outfits, make-up and hair looked downright silly. Now that I'm thinking about it, you're right. It was a deliberate choice to market this History channel show. Sane people wouldn't want to watch a bunch of ragged sea-dogs. How else would it earn enough for 5 seasons? Rome tried the realistic look and got cancelled after 2. @Doc844 It took a lot of creative license. Especially to create seemingly disconnected intrigue and lesbian love-triangles? The Egypt plot felt like quasi-Shakespearean fan-fiction. Also, regarding the Caesar actor -- I loved him. I think he's a fantastic actor. Now that you mention it... he did look much shlubbier than most classical depictions. Same could be said for Pompei.
  16. No one's making scale models of Japanese tanks, for some reason. xD I think German WW2 tanks have become the poster boys/girls for armour everywhere. When shopping around for RC toys, I noticed that literally everyone makes and buys a Tiger 1. I'm half surprised that it's a P. 4 and not a Tiger, in all honesty. Well, now that I think about it: a 1:2 Tiger 1 would be about the same size as a 1:1 P. 1, which is certainly closer to home.
  17. My best guess would be T-80UK. And -- absolutely, T-72 variants for UKR and T-80 variants for RF. Maybe a CEV for US. xD Also... does UKR have any BMP-3s? Yeah, dude. I'd love to see field-modifications of soviet-era BMPs and BTRs. BTR-4, despite its fancy modern windows, doors and guns, lacks some good ol' cage armour. RPGs are the #1 cause of booms. I have no doubt that BMP-1s and BTR-70s can do what I need them to do. I had an Oplot M, or two, panic due to enemy autocannon fire (across the frontal arc). They retreated, and were out of contact for a turn or two. I was flabbergasted. They gave the creme-du-la-creme T-84s to guys who should be roaming polygons? But then again, that's a 4 mission Campaign. Hopefully the next UKR campaign I'll play will feature more believable levels of experience and motivation for troops.
  18. I think there's some persistent MP campaigns, that are PvE focused, for DCS. Haven't seriously invested much time into MP, though. F-14 and Mi-24, you say? That sounds sick, but they really need a proper campaign generator. I got tired of the RNG missions. The embarrassing thing about DCS tanks is that I paid 15 CAD for them. IL-2 ones were free, and I never touched them. I like the singleplayer campaigns in "Battle of (series)". I'd buy that (for more than a dollar)! France has more of a reason to be in SF than most of the other NATO nations. I hope that's what BFC intends to do with SF2. I'd also like Iranian and Russian OPFOR packs -- as well as BLUFOR UNCONS (FSA/Kurds).
  19. I'd really like that, as well. Kind of a "Conquest" mode, where you move around companies like Risk pieces on an over-map. I understand it's not within their scope of ambition. However, I would like an optional Force Organization selection for campaigns, like Theatre of War. It would really improve replayability for campaigns.
  20. Oplot-T, isn't it? Is it akin to the T-84, Oplot or Oplot-M? I have to say, sending top-end armour to pre-war exports is some respectable dedication. That's my experience from Shield of Kiev. It seems like they kitted out my entire battalion with bleeding-edge prototypes. BTR-4Es, Oplot-Ms and Corsar ATGMs are ubiquitous. They say wars are won by Joe with his rifle. That's where this battalion is weakest. I can tackle enemy material without issue, but when it comes to personnel vs personnel -- I always find myself on the receiving end. My infantry squads really struggle with clearing out buildings and taking objectives. My squads are small, poorly led and are green as summer grass. Even if my BTRs and Oplots can wreck any entrenched infantry, they are not omniscient. If the infantry bumps into contacts, they lose their composure and often become combat ineffective. No doubt any of my vehicles on overwatch will bury the attackers. Yet, I just lost a platoon (worst case) in exchange for a RF section. I'd much prefer a battalion of well motivated regular troops with BTR-70s and T-64s. Still, it's a really fun campaign and I enjoy playing as UKR.
  21. DCS is a beautiful sim, for sure. Too bad there's not much to do. Oh, and they really gotta work on those tanks. That mode's embarrassing. I'd love an Operation Downfall Combat Mission. Maybe with a northern islands expansion, bringing in the Soviets. It will never happen.
  22. Wizards had some realistic battle sequences. xD I liked the bombers in Dr Strangelove. That felt authentic.
  23. So, I am on the last mission of Shield of Kiev. Are there any more UKR campaigns made by users? Oplot-M has a consistent edge over the T-72B3s. But, where it shines is infantry support. Abrams is serviceable in that regard, canister and heat rounds, mostly. Oplot-Ms are filled to the brim with both air-detonated frag rounds, as well as conventional impact fuse ones. The result? Overwatch is devastating. If the Cossacks even dare blink, and I see it -- the building is going down. Squad running across a street? A single air-detonated frag will render them combat ineffective. With an Abrams, I mostly had to rely on the typically American trait of having too many MGs of all calibers. Yet, dedicated anti-personnel rounds were to be conserved. I will say that the Abrams has better protection, and situational awareness. Which does make it more survivable as a breakthrough vehicle. The Oplot-M does not like being flanked -- even by infantry RPGs. I also have to say, how brilliant the RPG is -- that it can fire from inside buildings due to the two-stage rockets, very quick follow-up shots and its pretty deadly to surrounding infantry! I've only ever found myself on the receiving end of RF tanks. T-72B3 is the economy variant. While it lacks long-range tank on tank capabilities, it's still very much a threat. The T-90A is a serious improvement in terms of protection. T-90AM is terrifying. I bumped into one in a US campaign, it stalled my advance. I had to throw everything I could at it. It was buried in ATGM craters, and still sniping my strykers. Generally these soviet tanks have 2 great boons: a small silhouette makes them stealthy and ideal for ambush and they carry a devastating load of anti-personnel solutions.
