  1. And most amazing of all, they walked together! They could have separated by ~30m and doubled their individual chance of not being hit. And they didn't even jog, let alone run, to make harder targets. I was thinking same thing about the RU casualties claimed by UKR. Not looking so outlandish given the amount of anecdotal info + RU confirming its attacking all over the place and failing all over the place. This has Stalin-1941 written all over it -- attack attack attack!
  2. It's an op ed, not the editorial board. I can't stand the editorial board chief, Bret Stephens, an arrogant *** -- he recently decided that climate change is probably real, letting us all know it's now OK to believe in the science that's been totally clear to anyone w a brain for over 20 years. But the NYT editorial board is usually good -- this is not them. Hopefully there will be an op ed to counter this view. edit: ooops, pre-empted by SBurke on this.
  3. So basically Putin's plan now is to stall as long as possible while trying to reduce the losses by pulling out valuable men & machines while pushing in his lowest quality troops? That's what it's looking like. Hopefully all of those captured chmobiks will get to call home and at least get public sentiment tilting in the right direction, not that that's probably worth anything.
  4. So in RU if you are drafted and commit a crime does that mean they just re-draft you as a criminal based on the new law posted above? Fun circle there. Draft-crime-draft-crime.....
  5. You think he's not rolling in his grave??? (full disclosure, my first pres vote was actually for reagan) Serial mass murdering, child kidnapping, city destroyer, wrecker of world economy. One would think that would put everyone on the same side, no? And yet here we are.
  6. Good. Stake out the expectations, own the narrative. This is good messaging and shaping of public perception.
  7. Too funny. Vintage Aragorn! I like Elvis C, even know how to play some of his songs. But first time I saw him on the telly I was a freshman in high school. Doing sleepover at friend's house. Smoking pot, totally stoned. Saturday night live is on and the band starts. We burst out laughing, we had no idea what we were seeing and totally high. We were into zeppelin, skynyrd, yes, etc. WTF is this??? Later I came to appreciate him but at the time was so kept in the dark by our Dayton, Oh rock station we had no idea about punk movement. We thought that WTUE played everything that was worth playing. We were total bumpkins edit: and NO ONE we knew of played fender jazzmasters/jaguars
  8. meanwhile, this feller is asking the question of where RU is suffering all the casualties that UKR claims (and I get that UKR may be overstating RU casualties by a large amount) https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/11/4/2133545/-Ukraine-update-Where-are-all-the-Russians-dying edit: even if we cut UKR claims by 50% the RU losses in men & gear is still enormous
  9. that is some really good news. That's a lot of tanks! UAVs, blah blah blah, what good are they compared to tanks? And the boats -- that's very interesting. I wonder if UKR is considering possibility later of crossing river behind RU lines -- would be raids? would be bridgehead? Very interesting. At least would cause RU to spend forces to man a river line along Dnieper after Kherson falls. Speaking of after Kherson falls, it does open up opportunities. All those troops on right bank are suddenly free to go to Melitopol front, or Svatove, or Bakhmut or wherever. RU will also get some troops back but those will not have most of their heavy weapons -- and how many will be returning is still unknown. Maybe UKR will make DanCA happy & will open a drive on Minsk
  10. I've done shoot & scoot w javelin teams, especially in SF2, to great success. But it depends on how well the team can see the target. You might think you shoot & scoot just doesn't work, but the team takes time to spot & acquire depending on the visual situation. My best success was javelin team goes up on roof w perfect visibility and shoots (pause) in 20 seconds, then then come down to safety. A better command in CM might be "go here until you shoot, then go here". The pre-determined pause is the issue.
  11. I am picturing the call to the wife: "your husband is seriously injured and is receiving medical care" "will he die?" -- no "are you sure? Maybe you should just let him die, put him out of his misery. Show some mercy. I'll even give you 10% of the KIA bonus."
  12. As far as defense spending goes, US could spend less in the future if Russia was no longer a threat. The money being spent now could bring that to reality and save us a ton of money going forward. Still will have a very big D budget but wouldn't need to spend so much backstopping NATO countries.
  13. funny! But do you think they are less careful than the folks at fast food restaurants? They cooked it all quite thoroughly, so just as safe as most places. But I refuse to go negative on such a happy looking post. Dude certainly looked like he knew what he was doing.
  14. Heartbreaking. Courage and doing the right thing and paying the ultimate price for it. Sophie Scholl, 2022-Russian version.
  15. Hear hear! F YES! Way to cut thru the nonsense Artkin! What they heck is the dang military budget for if not for what is happening right now. And we are blessed that we can do this w/o US citizens dying. Worth every cent. Putin chose to threaten the world in the stupidest way possible and thus we are able to fight back in a very direct way.
  16. PhantomCapt, you gotta stop. My wrist is sore from hitting the like button Great looking battle shots & AAR!
  17. I gotta say I was a huge Bloom County fan myself. This one misses the mark only by actually shooting the liberal, which at the time may have seemed innocuous, but now not so much. LLF is somewhat misguided but I like him, so all is good. Beside, the cartoon author is now sucking up lots of evil socialized medicine himself at his age in great irony to this cartoon.
  18. dang, slow news day for sure from the front. yet another very close combat video, this time from Steve. Every time we here about drones and high tech this & that there's another video showing some utterly terrifying close quarters fight. Firefight from several hundred of meters away is scary, I am sure. But this is close enough to throw rocks.
  19. I wonder what RU will actually be receiving from a quality standpoint. Hopefully these shells are defective -- variations in propellant load & quality hopefully leading to lots of short rounds; defective munitions (duds); misfires requiring dangerous clearing process -- the occasional round exploding in the barrel or in handling would be nice. Do we think that NK storage and maintenence are better than in RU? Maybe. Maybe not.
  20. dammit dammit dammit dammit dammit. Was hoping for something good. The Forgotten Battle movie was made recently, on netflix, and was good. I was hoping for more like that. Hey, wait a minute -- I liked Peaky Blinders. So maybe there's still a chance for me with this.....
  21. as far as I know there are no benefits to preorder. Some of us just do it because we can, I suppose.
  22. Summary of front line news. For Svatove front the author says news is contradictory, some credible, some rather incredible, so his maps are staying w what he thinks is most credible news. Hopefully we'll see more progress soon but right now it looks like just pressure all over trying to find the weak points. The Road N & S of Svatove seems to be interdicted by UKR fire, which could help reduce the ability of RU to move reserves up & down the front. At the bottom there's report of more Antonovsky bridge strikes, which always makes me smile. https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/11/2/2133025/-Ukraine-update-Good-news-unbelievable-news-and-puzzling-news-from-Svatove
  23. I just look at this article on its own merits. It was good look at some folks fighting the war and civilians encountered along the , offered some insights, had some good pictures. As Steve mentioned above about the age of many soldiers, these guys were not young.
  24. behind paywall, but gives a look behind trying to crack RU defenses in Kherson. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/01/world/europe/ukraine-war-kherson.html
