  1. Much from Marx & Engels and Lenin are still valid. Gramsci, Frankfurt school, Zizek, all have made good contributions to philosophy, sociology and political economy. Dialectical materialism is a useful framework. Anarchist contributions towards anti authoritarian and horizontal frameworks of living and organizing are valuable too, offering alternatives to systems and ethics based on exploitation, chauvinism and profit over all else. Socialist authors to this day are still critiquing current affairs and dominant ideologies in a way that profit centered, corporate owned media cannot DARE to do(for obvious reasons). The sheer hostility towards their work by people who haven't read them, and the way they are all strawmanned by oligarch funded sock puppets(when not outright banned or kept out of circulation) is quite telling. Bosses don't tend to like it when people ask for more, and question the power relations and double standards. Cultural chauvinists and dogmatic religious leaders don't like when their mythological grand narratives have holes poked in them. And people who claim to oppose tyranny and support freedom want to suppress the ideas and books and the people they disagree with.
  2. I could recommend you some reading on that lol. While what you're saying is sensible, the things you're advocating for that would keep the system going, are not the direction folks in charge have been going in either the government or industry. Been this way since Thatcher...
  3. I'm glad you read the articles and found them enlightening. And I agree, elites don't care about economic issues except to benefit themselves as a class. You'll find that the only thing I disagree with you on is the framing, and that's not your fault. The elites you're referring to who are screaming at the top of their lungs are liberals, not leftists. Like the right wing, they have chosen to frame thing in terms of a culture war and, more critically, ignore the economic dimensions of these social struggles( climate, race, gender often ARE big economic issues for the people affected, and we all are affected by them, wether benefiting or being harmed). You'll ironically find that the only thing that socialists, anarchists, communists dislike more than the right wing is the liberals. They co-opt social movements asking for meaningful change and make them safe for corporate commodification, and harmless to the status quo. They signal support for tepid reforms and first capture, then strangle the momentum of any drift that makes their alliance with their more conservative elite colleagues too uncomfortable- and if you think they're truly opposed to each other, see how quick the Dems and 'the most pro union president in US history' joined republicans in opposing rail workers two months ago. I'm sure the tragedy in Ohio recently is a direct result of that one btw. These liberals openly join their conservative colleagues to oppose economic justice, then have the gall to take on the mantle of 'the left' while suppressing the actual left from the mainstream conversation! They have successfully kept us out and at the margins since the 1950's in the US for example. Anyhow, outside of the opening you gave in your response there, I will keep my politics at a minimum except where relevant to the discussion on the war. Glad I can participate and add useful perspectives.
  4. https://lefteast.org/it-is-always-darkest-before-the-dawn-how-russian-anarchists-today-struggle-for-revolution/ Really interesting interview with anarchists in Russia who are sabotaging railways(sharing recipes on their telegram even) and firebombing recruitment centers. You'll also find that their analysis of conditions in Russia echoes a lot of what has been discussed in this forum, as well as being sober in realizing that getting consensus for a different future is difficult. https://commons.com.ua/en/im-ukrainian-socialist-heres-why-i-resist-russian-invasion/ And here is the article I referred to earlier, it's by a Ukrainian TDF member. Some of the choicest bits- The following three paragraphs outline his thoughts on Zelensky, offer a counter to accusations around Ukraine's language policies, and acknowledge that should he fail, worse movements and actors will take his place And a more general outlook if Ukraine loses and powers like Russia win
  5. Have to wonder how vulnerable Russian airspace, and the airspace at the front is, if this is true.
  6. Went ahead and reported it twice to AMD, the first time i forgot to leave my contact info for them. Here's hoping they address it in the next update...
  7. Gonna take the big risk of putting myself out here as maybe the resident 'far left' lurker in this forum and say that you're pretty spot on. Myself and comrades I organize with know that Putin is a far right demagogue who jails socialists, that socialists in Russia have been jailed in particular because of their opposition to the war, and that socialists within Ukraine by and large are in the TDF and the UA. As one Ukrainian socialist interviewed put it recently, supporting the arming of Ukraine by NATO is not disimilar to supporting the arming of Vietnam by the Soviet Union/China, despite onerous things done by those states in Hungary and Prague, etc. There are concerns about fascism in Ukraine, but i think it's outweighed by the fascism of Russia. That, and I'm pretty sure the worst of the UKR far right got killed in Mariupol. Most acknowledge that a Russian win in Ukraine will make the world more reactionary, and capitalism worse, particularly for people there. as for the tankies, they make it clear by all of their stances that they are cheerleaders for inter imperial conflicts, just on the side of the underdog oligarchs. Really they're just fascists. Before the war I was skeptical of Russia actually being stupid enough to invade and I didn't trust US intelligence if they said their mothers loved them as children. I have thus had the honor of being called a Moscow shill before the war, and currently get called a CIA shill/fed by those tankies. Two extra paychecks from competing Intel agencies would be nice.
  8. The simpler answer is that they are liars who will say whatever the people paying them want. They don't have actual coherent beliefs outside of what their checkbook allows
  9. He's a fascist. Plain and simple. Found out he could make a lot more money by skewing right-wing than being involved with leftist politics.
  10. Zelensky was on TV the day after invasion begging Putin to quit and they would sign something promising not to join NATO. Why are you in favor of everyone having to tiptoe around Russias insecurities?
  11. Toothless argument. Ukraine was not in NATO nor planning to be if it would avoid being invaded, they states it numerous times. and they got invaded anyway. Finland and Sweden actually in process of joining, where are the Russian tanks crossing their border? They won't.
  12. Say, whatever happened to JasonC? Is he still alive? Loved his posts, as a long time lurker
  13. I just hope at some point this year the problem with blinding white flash of screen when there are explosions is fixed for AMD users(wether on battlefronts end or AMD's) so i can play again comfortably.
  14. Tried settings similar to lerxster and no success on cold war. Is there supposed to be a button in AMD's software to submit a report to them? I couldn't find it
  15. What's rough is after long break from CM i was looking forward to getting back into it, now I will have to wait...
  16. Hi, am currently experiencing screen going white with explosions, and it's Jan 11 2023. Any fix on this?
  17. Been on vacation so i haven't had time to watch this, but was wondering if anyone else had the chance to see this army university press video - skimming the comments, seems like criticism is that they still want to overestimate Russian capabilities and think of them as near peers.
  18. Saying Soviet anti semitism was similar to the Holocaust is in rather poor taste, to say the very least, and I hope you recognize that.
  19. Right? It's more something I would expect Zelensky to send to Putin
  20. Hey folks, loving CMCW. Was wondering if there would be any expansions this year or next, I didn't see anything about CMCW in the bones thread. Thanks
  21. The respect I have for this game and the folks who put it together is immense, that scenario does exactly what was intended! Can I also just mention how awesome it is that with a company this size and in this market, that the people who worked on it are accessible for conversation and advice to their customers and fellow enthusiast (especially when compared to big AAA corporate studios with layers of HR and PR people between us and the devs) I'll get off my fanboy chair now
  22. So I'm doing the small Scenario in defense with the starships, but it's a problem I'm having in general with these scenarios: I need to defend ground that is already TRP'd and the enemy is definitely calling in FFE in the first minute. I always find myself in reptile brain when this happens. Am I supposed to sit there and take it in these positions that will be useful after the barrage, if any of my forces are left? Should I anticipate this by staging my forces away and then moving them into place after the barrage is done, risking being out of position for the killshots? Perhaps these questions should be obvious, but hearing from the armchair generals would alleviate my panic haha
