Thanks again for your time here.

That's very interesting. I was looking for something 10 years ago(FGM Depot) and it's very cluttered over there.  Lucky Strike‘s OR Falaise‘s... Do they have a complete package ? Inside it is just a complete "download ?

Or do I have to do it all manually and dig through it by hand ?

10 years ago? Then have a look again. It is very different and easier to navigate nowadays.

Lucky Strike‘s and Falaise‘ mods cover the environment of BN. I.e., trees, bushes, hedges, grass, etc for BN only. They cover it all in one, but only for summer 44. One exception: Falaise‘ mod consists of three different packages, one each for June, July and August 1944. He lives in Normandy and obviously had to make it perfect. 😊 Both mods are great. Lucky Strike‘s is perhaps a bit more colourful. But again, what suits you better depends on your liking.

That's a shame. Because I have no idea what mods work there.
I would need a library of someone who has all these mods working.
So I can copy it directly from him.🤩

Did you already take a look at the FGM Depot?

At least you find the mods and scenarios sorted per game and per „topic“. So, it‘s easy to decide which mod works for which game.

But as George said: Many will be included in @37mm selection already.

Regarding „one mod to make everything prettier“: Well, that’s difficult anyway. Your taste is not necessarily my taste…. E.g., if you prefer Lucky Strike‘s or Falaise‘s environment mod for BN is quite much a question of your personal preference.

Ehhh, area fire at obvious superb places to put infantry is ok in my book.

If you put an FO in that church tower that provides great observation to the entire match, don't get upset when I blast the snot out of it as soon as I have a LOS.

    H

Yep, the same goes for „suspicious“ buildings, dwellings, forests or hedgerows etc.

I usually only rule out first turn fire on „the small set-up square at the end of the map“.

I have been a player of the CM series since the Beyond Overload days and have bought just about every title since.  I have enjoyed the modern games and I am very disappointed to hear the the expansion for BS has been shelved.  Why?  As I understand it, Battlefront did not want people thinking they were making a profit off of a war even though the game was designed before the war in Ukraine.

It‘s not CM, but this (in development) board game may be interesting for you:

Eyeballing is best, in real life the driver's task is to find the 'Hull Down' position. If you can view from View-1 plus notch up with the mouse wheel but not before you used the mouse wheel you are in 'Hull Down".

Whow, you are really micro-managing. 😊

  6. To second Erwin: Yes, „Hull Down“ command is pretty vague. IIRC, when given a hull down command, the AI moves the vehicle along the ordered path and settles at the first hull down position. Regardless in which direction. I.e., you may want to search for a position straight ahead, but if the first available hull down condition is perpendicular on the right hand side, your vehicle stops in that position and turns right.

I personally, indeed, do rather check the line of sight in the direction I want to move, move the tank to a point just before the line of sight „breaking point“ and then inch a little forward with a hunt command.

  7. In my Bundeswehr times in the early 80’s, I was trained on the MG 3 (which is basically the same as the MG 42 but with a lower rate of fire). I trained on the 150m shooting range only and found it, indeed, accurate enough. Hitting the mark with the first shot was no issue. However, it has no single fire mode and, if you shoot from the bi-pod only, latest the fourth shot of a burst is usually far off. That’s why we were trained to fire short 3-round bursts only.

Needles to say: A 10-round burst, shot from the bi-pod, would be a waste of ammo.

I have Mac OS and would like to purchase Combat Mission Italy and bundle it with both scenarios.  But I also need to update all games.  Both steam and slitherine offer only windows downloads.  How May I get only Mac OS updates following purchase of boxed versions?

    Nobody replied? Strange.

I do not believe the boxed version are still available, but you should be able to download updates for previous purchases. Larger updates, resp new versions of a game, are usually sold for a few USD.

But the standard advise is: Ask @BFCElvis

Maybe one of those moments where if you're the owner of the Tiger you might raise a vexed eyebrow, but if you're the T34 owner you might not 😉.

Were the T34s hidden by any chance, so engines off?  Just curious.

I hate to say it, but my beloved Tiger often disappoints me in CM. Despite the frontal strength and fierce look.

I.e., the video does not surprise me too much.

I don't think they ever promised anything like that.

What they did say was that they would like to do an updated engine that is better optimised. So, better performance and less weird graphical glitches. Which would be great. But it's still going to be the same game.

Brings me back to @BDW original question

A lot changed, but if you were away for ten years, you won’t notice the difference. The game runs better and a lot of glitches have been eliminated.

The „going to Steam with a new PBEM and tournament system“ is certainly a big change, but probably not your main concern for the time being.

Otherwise: I am playing CM since 1999 (or earlier?), too, but joined the Forum only in the early 2000‘s.

    That said: Welcome back mate!

Forgot to say: Installation is nowadays indeed a lot easier, @BFCElvis will help you through that anyway.
And there are „all in one“ mod packages available, which should give you a head start to make the game look nicer.😊

Hmmm… After my disastrous first employment of air support, last weekend I had a Typhoon destroying an immobilized Tiger II with its rockets in the Scottish Corridor campaign ! In the same mission another Typhoon damaged a Panzer IV enough to turn it impotent (I knocked it down easily with a Churchill afterwards).

In a previous mission of the same campaign another Typhoon wrought havoc amongst a German infantry assault.

Accordingly this was against the AI. But I wouldn't say Air Support is useless!

BTW, thanks to @IanL and @Brille whose advices above make it possible! 😊

Congrats! Sounds more effective than any of my encounters.😊

  12. To summarise: I find air support mostly pretty useless and can remember only one game against Bulletpoint, where he used it quite effectively against me. But even there: The result was more of a morale drop for me and a few friendly „KIA pixeltruppen“ on the map.

Not to forget: The risk of „blue on blue“ is quite high…

ok, these image hosting websites offer a variety of ways to get your image to where you want. if you pick the wrong way, then you just get some link text and NOT the image. Go to your site and MAYBE look for the method that says the word "direct", copy it from there by hitting a button usually

then go to CM forum and paste

EDIT: I guess Chucky says discord does this for you already? But the host sites are like albums and you can see it all clearly. I am not sure if discord offers that...

Yep, I always found Imgur difficult to use.

Chuck‘s Discord recommendation sounds good. Guess I have to try that.

    Hiya,

I've not played in a while but I'm unable to load the game. I've installed it and when I click load it allows me to enter my activation key successfully but when I click play the game loads in a minimized window.

I have a large monitor/tv so I suspect this may be a resolution issue.  I've read that there should be a file I can edit in the game root directory but I can see no such file.

    Any ideas?

    Ask @BFCElvis

I've just taken another look. I'm not quite sure how it happened but I ended up with both a wmv file and a wav file. That's the problem with being 400 years old, we have no idea how these automated writing machines work.

Having sussed it, I will hold Miss Dirttrack's version in reserve. And use the recording made by Charlie and his Orchestra when I play as the Jerrys

In case you guys are interested: I have „D-Day Dodgers“ (to the tunes of Lili Marleen).

Needless to say: Perfect as music for CMFI.
