I'm doubtful about that, the colonies were supposed to be (almost) fully a part of the French Republic after all (and even today all Euro banknotes include the map of Europe plus French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Reunion - which are nowhere near Europe). And de Gaulle's clout among the Allies depended on him being able to offer troops to fight against Germans, so by making such an initiative he would only have marginalized his own role in the liberation of France. That is unlikely!

Nor do I think that it's fully explained by US institutional racism either, they didn't make any racial clauses for the troops that could participate in the invasion of Italy, after all. More likely, I think, is that it originated from perceived propaganda needs, both in offering Allied propaganda the chance of showing Paris being liberated by Parisians, as well as denying Nazis the chance of trying to use this for their own propaganda, eg. "inferior races threatening Aryan peoples" and so forth.

Like Mr. Gluk Gluk said, the colonial troops were Arabs from the Maghreb region (North West Africa). The RMT even included Republican Spanish volunteers, the 9th Company, called La Nueve.

Anyway, here is the BBC article talking about the matter.

ha for what is is worth neither have I, but that is more a case of just having too many conflicting priorities.

As for this scenario I have play tested many variants of it, with varying US forces.  I have had at times success with the Brads, TOW mounted Strykers and HUMMWVs.   I have at times crushed the Russian force and at other times been burned badly.  I can't say I have an easy answer to success nor can I say any one unit is useless.  It is one of the reasons I really liked this one.  You have to work at it to make all the pieces come together and for me the replay value was very high.  It is a fairly unique scenario pitting a vastly inferior sized force with a lot of support assets against on paper a much larger force.  It is a really great learning scenario for what makes CMBS so different.

It can definitely be intimidating at the setup, when everything's just mixed up like a bowl of spaghetti with the tanks as the meatballs. Once you finally sort everything out and get rolling, it tends to resolve, but until then it would be really nice if the game just automatically bunched formations according to their force structure.

I just purchased the game a couple weeks ago.  I am having a problem determining if my vehicles will cross certain river fords.  I understand the deep ford/ shallow ford concept but I cannot visually distinguish if the crossing will allow vehicles to cross or if it is infantry only.  Is there a "map key" that I've missed somewhere?

If you have an answer please post it as soon as practicable.  Mein Führer is already upset that I have not yet crossed this river!  Best not to disappoint. . . .

Start with a heavy arty bombardment of the church using your 203mm pieces (cross your fingers in the hope that you don't destroy both church towers in the process - they will make excellent observation points throughout the scenario)

Use your infantry to scout ahead and find enemy vehicles, then use artillery to take them out or destroy enough subsystems to make them ineffective (this is more likely to happen when you target Abrams tanks - they are extremely tough to kill outright with arty).

Expect heavy casualties from whatever vehicles and infantry that you don't spot right away, it is more of less unavoidable in that particular scenario.

Yeah womble, they were crack American engineers with +1 leadership and morale IIRC. It was during the infantry only demo mission for black sea, can't recall the name. I believe I gave them a fast order across the street. They might have tired and changed it to quick though. I agree about the overwatch, that's what they were there for. What I found really interesting is the way the ambushed team moved in 1-2 meter bounds, firing on the seen contact at every pause. They were only about 10 meters away from the contact. Of course this is normal behavior for crack troops with a quick order, but it was interesting nonetheless.

That's what I'm guessing too breeze. It was just funny to see the TacAI really do EXACTLY the right thing for the situation earlier in the same mission I lost two men because rather than go in the back door they were next to, a fireteam decided to go 30 meters around a block of houses, into the street, to get to the front door.

I should have taken video. The response looked textbook to me. It would be neat to improve the TacAI to the point where it did things like that on purpose.

Oneyearwarpilot reacted to John Kettler in Saudi Arabia goes to war in Yemen! New options for CMSF!
I absolutely did not see this one coming. Saudi Arabia, faced with the near collapse of neighbor Yemen, with whom it shares a long border, has today, March 25, 2015, gone to war, as part of a 10-nation coalition, to throw out the Shiite Houthi insurgents. Who also have aircraft and are using them. Seems to me this multinational campaign, in which the US has no forces, offers amazing opportunities to take CMSF scenario design into a brand new direction. The Saudi's armor, part of the Saudi Royal Army, is mainly an Abrams version built specially for them and Bradleys, but uses a diverse range of weaponry after that. SA also has Apaches. SA rundown here. Yemen has a rather shopworn ex-Russian T-54/T-55 force and some T-62s, BMPs 1 and 2, plus BTR-60s and M113s. Did I mention the Yemeni Army is fighting on both sides?! As for the Houthis, they're doubtless mostly UNCON armed with low end weapons, plus whatever they've seized since. Also AQAP is opposed to the Houthis.

Oneyearwarpilot got a reaction from Vergeltungswaffe in Mother of Mara !!!
So I just finished playing Black Sea and I have to say this game is merciless I thought CMSF:Nato was hard till I had to take a small town from the Russians with mechanized troops there was anti armor everywhere. Eventually I pulled my IFVs back (playing as USA) and fought from house to house twas a very fun QB lost in the end but I still enjoyed it,
