  1. Born 1964 Boardgames in High School, a friend had "Harpoon", popular in 82 was doing the Falkland Islands conflict with the forces that game had. Did some other friend's Avalon Hill board games, something about the Eastern Front at Army or Corps level. SS Panzer Corps was a black counter with high values, but don't get slowed or stuck in the Pripet marshes. Got married in 89, played a bunch of solotaire boardgames. Ambush, Purple Heart, Silver Star? Got a computer in 94 to play Avalon Hill Operation Crusader, Stalingrad, V for Valor series, Velie Keluki or something like that. They always had nice box art. then got CC1, was that by Atomic Games? CC bulge, etc. Steel Panthers. Some crappy game called Cross of Iron. Finally saw CMBO and bought all of that series. I did play some of the Squad battle series, Dien Bien Phu, Korea. Some other panzer campaign Bulge? Yep, CMBN, CMFI (CMX2) series is the best out there. Thanks BTS.. One thing I miss from CC was scavenging. My little ant soldier would pick up an enemy weapon and keep on cranking. I know this has been hashed over before but I would love to see it again.
  2. Steve said in another thread http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=108673 ...about the number of months between CMBN 2.0 upgrade and Gustav Line release is 4 months, between CMFI and Gustav is 7 months and between CMBN 2.0 upgrade and OMG is 5-6 months. So, CMFI was out in early August 2012 so +7 months gets me to right about now! But I then see CMBN 2.0 upgrade was 11 Dec so Gustav comes out in early April... And so OMG is then early May or early June? Maybe I got my dates wrong? Regardless, it is great stuff to look forward to. Plus Bagration later in the year. Thanks Battlefront!
  3. I searched "Teacher" in the repository but didn't find anything. Maybe under your real name? Did anyone ever help you?
  4. I am writing a campaign and just want to see if there are any better ways to set this up for the decision battle? Players units only on the small battlefield. 10 minutes minimum battle length. designated as a single exiting units U1, some large point value, 1000. Exit zone set up on far side. Briefing tells details for choosing either A, proceed to exit, or B, stay in place. Players chooses then has to hit red button. Hits it each time to process the turn then again to advance the turn, so 20 times. Then battle ends and campaign proceeds per script file. I played it successfully but was annoyed with the 20 hits on the red button, I tried a ceasefire but got a draw and didn't get the option I wanted. Any other ways to improve this such as eliminating the button pushing? Thanks.
  5. at the end of a scenario battle within the campaign you can check kill stats for your units. core units will show both kills for this battle and overall for the campaign. non-core just show for this battle.
  6. the campaign author designates certain units as core units. These units are basically the ones you keep seeing. Other support , non-core can be used but the program does not track casualties on these non-core units. also for the core units the author sets a percentage chance for refit(replacements), repair vehicles, resupply and rest. page 16 of the manual.
  7. OK, that solves that. Thanks so much. I tried to have one enemy stay behind but he was hiding in a crop field and apparently did not feel compelled to surrender so the turns just kept ticking away with no action.
  8. Maybe that is why a lot of folks love the quick battles because it just gets right to the combat action. At this point I have some work invested so I will probably use this old style topo tacmap for my campaign WIP, "Sauvignon Sahara". I appreciate everybody's comments and wish you all happy gaming.
  9. Maybe I can't get my scenario to instantly end. What I mean is I have a campaign scenario with Germans exiting as part pof the story and sometimes the turns just tick away with only allies on the map. Not so exciting. I played a few other scenarios today "At another crossroads" and at a certain point, 4 minutes left to go and I was doing very well and boom, the scenario ended and it showed the results. Was this surrender of the enemy? Anyone know how can I manipulate the objective types on both sides to try and force this to happen? I still want some German units to plan to exit. Maybe I could keep a low morale unit behind and assign it a occupy objective. Maybe if it sees it is losing it goes ahead and throws in the towel? I will experiment while I await some replies....
  10. That is a nice one. "she's a real corker." East-west oriented battles go real well with the tac map format.
  11. papertiger, thanks for your kind words. I feel more on your lines though my completed and published works are so far very limited. I personally like a narrative briefing as a backstory element. I have also replaced the strat map with an image, as well as the op map with a collage of images to try and add atmosphere to the briefing. This tac map project is so far a fun learning experience but again it might be looked at for how many seconds by the player before he hits the button and goes right to the gameplay? Great idea about points values in the gamescreen text for the objective name. Thanks. I will put "Where all the Glory lies" on my to play list. I don't have CMSF.
  12. so, before you look at the below example tactical map, you are also reading the briefing so combined there should be either a successful effect or not. This particular scenario is about an allied armored patrol headed north through this town when they triggered a German ambush, the blue arrow is not telling you what to do, Got it?
  13. Vinnart, Those with the boardgame die-cut counter? I like that style also. If you have one handy in your mind, can you kindly tell me a specific scenario that did a great briefing using that style. Thanks. It is good to have different styles. I am thinking and thus putting in some effort that this topo old style will go well with my style scenarios/campaigns. tiny, small, only vs AI, storyline type. we'll see
  14. it is no biggie. you are welcome in advance and btw how are the snow mods coming along this weekend? I am finally learning to do SOMETHING useful with paint.NET. I know there are other free similar softwares out there...my goal now is to have a backdrop format which the scenario author then pastes a scaled topo map on to and pastes a typed objectives list image on to as well. Then it saves it as a bmp and plugs it into his scenario. something like this The tac map format is horizontal so a vertically sized map has to be so small to fit in there or you can do what I think is a goofy thing, which you see in some of the stock scenarios, where north is to the left. Maybe they can make the tac map format a square shape where you can have some flexibility. Or free form the entire thing like the other thread was discussing and allow html for briefings rather than the wall of words.
  15. OK, it is the weekend again and I will add the JonS suggestion to the right side of the tac map. A typed font yellowish paper with objectives and points values and I was thinking a color coding to correlate with the topo map. I also experimented for the first time with the overlay feature in the map editor. I guess I had somehow a long while back misunderstood and thought it processed the elevations for you. Now I see it is simply a way to trace your manual entered elevations values and of course building locations, roads etc on to the CM2 maps. Standby later tonight I will post up a new version.
  16. Thanks, I did know about CMMODS but it has been so long that I checked in to see what is cooking.
  17. Mr. Kerner!............sunday night.................... How did the plan work out? I have been doing some paint.NET work, see other thread... also finally got a big cedar stump pulled out, helped my college student with his essay. worked with my 13 yo to help him make $$ to buy Aliens Colonial Marines. Masked the small bathroom so the wife can paint on her day off. Looking forward to wintery wonderlands.
  18. JonS, oh no no no... it is late.... now I understand your suggestion, I didn't understand it at first. Great idea, thanks! I tuck mine to the left and create a new yellowy typed op order sheet with the objectives and points value over to the right. That could look nice. Thanks!
  19. Sir, that is supposed to be a river! I guess I could have said some river name along it. Haven't figured that out yet. You are correct my in game map is only a portion of the above. I am wrestling with how to do this. speak of the devil, right now I am going through some stock scenarios and seeing what is what. I do see the metal rivet border and kind of breaking down things in that image as sub images, maybe I can as you mentioned squeeze this in to the left in a smaller format. A possible good thing about my original style might be that for a campaign it is a foreshadowing of terrain you might see in the next battle. If it indeed happened that close to the first skirmish.
  20. 950 x 352 is very challenging to fit all this eyecandy and a clear see-able description of objectives, etc. And my map is so on the tiny scale. Imagine the monster maps! This is a good learning experience and my very first use of photobucket by the way but I am not sure how popular it would be... But those poor sods back in dark 44 only had chicken scratch.... Thanks for all your inputs and comments. I will still use this in my upcoming campaign for CMBN Sauvignon Sahara coming soon to a repository near you!
  21. JonS, it is no biggie. A happy medium of staining and artisitic BS. If I can make a reasonably decent looking standard format and then update only a specific map's topo layer, I am a happy camper. I would share it on the repository for anyone who cares to have it. Maybe someone could improve upon it and we'd see if it is a plus to options for the scenario writers out there. 950 x 352 aint that big a tac map image. I guess I gotta look at some of these huge maps and how they portray things. I tend to fight the small size battles....
  22. JonS, 10,001 posts, aw shucks, you were turning into a Stuckey's gas station looking for 58 cents a gallon gas on I-95 south headed to Florida and and missed the odometer rolling over! I appreciate your suggestions and happen to love mining for map jpegs. Thanks. badger, thanks for the symbols. I guess the 90 day wonders were taught these. Did the NCO's know this stuff? It seems from my readings a leg infantry private made corporal if he survived and then could become a sgt and squad leader fairly quickly based on casualties. All the airborne troops had much more intensive training and probably were taught this and as a matter of pride knew the symbols. Maybe a handwritten tac map would tend to simply say MG for machinegun? Does anyone have any of these old tac maps?
  23. here it is, and note it is only 1:25,000 and contour intervals are 10 meters. Not much examining the micro terrain for places to take cover. I think we are clearly spoiled kids with our intel as CM players. It is just a game so the point is to have fun and enjoy it so maybe these old WW2 style tac maps can be for the player who wants to try less intel for the on the fly type of hasty attack.
  24. compare to this ebay ww2 map for Operation Dragoon. Found in a WW2 vets stuff. see the folds and I guess I could have gone darker with the smudges. aw shucks, that is after I started cutting and pasting...hold on, I will get the original up ASAP. But still you can see something distressed.
