  1. Normal map? Well, I guess I'd have my fences and walls all straight. Nothing goofy and abnormal. Then the trees, deciduous gotta be south of the Evergreens. I think that about covers it. I am so lost! Maybe I can lay a gustatori insignia layer on an existing helmet. That is my new crawl before walking goal for mods.

  3. This is why some type of battlefront Las vegas convention would be awesome. You could have the mod gods up on stage with one of those pc's that show what you are doing up on the big screen. Maybe my year of putzing around has officially started....
  4. Well, I have crawled along slowly up to the point I am currently at. I dl'd paint.NET and the plug-in to be able to use photoshop psd files. I exploded the big brz files. My 1st goal is to recolor the Italian soldier uniforms to look like African service. 2nd goal is to recolor the helmets for a similar effect. Q: should I do the helmet first? Is that a better first level goal? Loaded the bmp into paint.net. Converted to grayscale so I retain the wrinkles and shades right? Now I use recolor tool and select a secondary color. It looks tan but seems too shiny or something. I don't know enough of how to change saturation level or add in subtle changes to that new color I changed to. I used the magic wand tool to pluck out the belt and make it a new layer so later I could add it back to the changed recolored uniform. I have watched a few tutorials but they never seem specific enough to these actual goals. Does anyone know of a specific uniform mod tutorial video or pdf? Webwing had a series of 7 tutorials which showed basic from scratch techniques with generic shapes but never got around to this type of specific tutorial. I think. Thanks.
  5. I have designed a few maps/scenarios. So far from my limited experience: Fences have negligible impact on any effort to restrict movement. I use heavy forest to channel vehicles for the AI side. Trees seem to not block LOS for my AI troops. I use buildings or actual terrain to prevent game starting with troops unintentionally in LOS of each other.
  6. MikeyD, Now that is what I'm talking about! Some actual steps. Thanks. Jeseminy! Is this step by step process written anywhere? Yes, cut and dry scenarios are better in that regard. I wonder if you can somehow reverse call in a campaign OOB for your AI opponent? Hmm, maybe I am not phrasing that correctly. If you can set-up a campaign OOB and then make it for the AI side, the AI draws from it and it could be more realistic than crazy AI selections can often be. This is a key reason to have % chance of arrival for AI reinforcements. You can have unknowns where a cut and dry scenario has excitement and x % probability that your AI opponent will get a tank.
  7. I want to create a QB and play it against the AI at first. I already have made several maps and my own scenarios with AI plans (working on releasing a few soon to the "suppository"). But how does the program know to auto feed AI units into the specific AI groups? Are there any rules of thumb for how large of units to make AI group for a QB? Each a specific platoon with HQ and squads? A specific vehicle? Anyone can give me some pointers? Thanks. I did forum searches and asked over at CMFI and flipped through my fancy spiral-bound manual but no joy so far. Grazie! Oh, this is CMBN whoops, merci!
  8. This has a lot of potential. Like a wild card object that would fit with the scenario or campaign. OK, so you wouldn't want to put troops behind it since it doesn't block LOS or give cover. But it would be one of those nuances you could tuck in with a mod pack. I think of Opel Blitz with burnt out or torn canvas, bullet holes, no tires, packs askew. But we need the mod gods to make it so.
  9. I want to make QB's that I can play against the AI. At least as a start. Adding Asslt, Attk, Meet or Probe to the namne does that trigger something to establish points you can spend and AI can spend? But then again I have heard that the AI picks some wacky stuff if let to its own devices. Shucks. Maybe I will reverse engineer a QB by opening an existing one in the editor. Well, actually I have done that and saw some AI plans. Nothing too fancy only a few orders. ..more to follow....
  10. Tempestzzzz, You are kicking some butt! Take a well deserved break and then keep up the good work. I can't wait to have that small mosque for the "Sahara" scenario I hope to make one day. From the Humphrey Bogart movie. Did you ever see it? I would need a Grant but can use a Sherman I suppose.
  11. Long ago I had tried Theater of War and remember a video tutorial ( pretty sure it was also webwing) where it walked you through how to make beautiful arrows for the briefing map. The nice blue or red arrows that have a crisp darker outline, a lighter interior and then the magic wand tool makes them transparent at the base. Also I think it showed how to make old style board game counters. I am trying to track it down and post the link here.
  12. Ummm, I don't see where it tells you how to do this.... absolutely no luck with search engine What are the steps to turn your custom map into a CMFI QB waiting for folks to pop in their own OOB? Any special tips on how to do the AI plans since you don't know what the AI units will be? Thanks.
  13. I want to try my hand at a simple mod to create desert uniforms for Italian troops so I can make some Tunisia scenarios. So I have done searches but haven't hit pay dirt most of the time. Therefore I wanted to create a thread where we can paste links to the best of the other threads even in other title's forums. I hope this is not somehow redundant. A. I do not know if Webwing he ever made a plain tutorial where he showed how to take existing uniforms and slightly mod them, all the part C link tutorials were apparently more complex, "from scratch" approaches. I will edit it in if someone wants to PM me the link. There also might be a pdf file which shows how to do this, by MikeyD, I tried to e-mail him for the link but no response yet.
  14. Tempestzzzz, Have you seen the fairly recently made Italian movie "El Alamein: The Line of Fire" which had many scenes which showed shorter poles like the CMA ones? It is a good film, check it out!
  15. I have been improving the scenario from playtester feedback. So, if you want to try it out, just shoot me a PM with your e-mail address. Best as Italian defender vs Axis. haven' had anyone try it as PBEM. YET! I would love to try it as that as my first PBEM but as the author I have an unfair advantage.

I need a mod god to make us Guastatori African uniforms! I guess they would be good for all Italian forces Regia Esercito in Africa. Maybe a special helmet for Guastatori? Ciao!

"Salvate il Maggiore Rinetti" You can play as either side versus AI or scrounge up an opponent and go HtH. PM me with a real e-mail address and I will shoot it back to you ASAP. It is not the super final version that will be posted to the "suppository" but it is nearly there and feel free to critique me so I can improve/learn. kohlenklau
  18. Not too many interested? Okay, I am biased but as "I" playtest it as the author, I am really enjoying it. As designed to be played as these Guastatori, you have got to exit out of a certain few tiles to represent escape from arrest. It has played out as very exciting and might I say dramatic. Please give it a try. I made it 15 minutes to make it more suspenseful. \

  21. Dear Santa, My personal #1 on the wish list: Percentage based chance of reinforcement arrival starting at a certain turn. Just like in CMX1. I have posted about this before, Come on! I am sure you read it, printed the entire thread off and thumb-tacked it in your cubicle.

Tempestzzz, Maybe special look damaged AFV's could be nicely modded and created as flavor objects and then placed in heavy forest tile or other tile if available so vehicles would not pass through them. Perhaps wheels off the rims, peppered full of holes, hatches open, stereo missing? Some darkening from fire. Or for tracked vehicles: Broken track, barrel spiked, engine grates opened, packs askew. The Mod Gods can do it, I can't yet. I just look at my icon for paint.NET and kind of tremble.
  23. I volunteer to playtest this mod if that would help you. Maybe PM me the readme and whatever else would be downloaded and if I have any problems getting it to work based on your instructions I will give some feedback. Or I can wait til you get it on the "suppository". I just installed paint.NET on my PC. Is that the kind of toll to do these sign mods with? Oh, I like those cool telephone poles in the bottom photo! I wonder what the spacing was?
  24. Telephone poles! I'll get my tape measure and check the spacing.... I played Hills Have Eyes versus axis AI and can send you a PM with as much detailed feedback as I can. I did leave a few comments in the repository. If I was ever assigned as a play tester I would make very detailed notes for feedback but as normal fun play I am like others and don't take notes and might only offer a few general impressions. I haven't busted out of my "just vs AI" play paradigm YET. If you want me to playtest as "vs AI", I volunteer!
