DLaurier reacted to John Kettler in Soviet Supply Operations, by Der Alte Fritz on Armchair General
DAF, who previously graced u with first rate work on Russian fire planning and use of artillery, put together a simply brilliant study of Soviet supply operations during the GPW, and is it ever deep!  You will know more about large scale logistics (you all want to be generals, right?) when you're done than you ever dreamed possible. What he presents, though, is much more than the Russian side of the house, but also the Germans and the Allies. A most revelatory piece of work, part of which directly pertains to Op Bagration. The Red Army lived or died on its railroads, which during an advance could be pushed forward as much as a 75 km/day, and it was the nearest railhead which drove everything else, as he details below.

DLaurier reacted to John Kettler in Tali-Ihantala depicted--in the most unlikely manner ever!
Was researching a battle near Debrecen, Hungary when I saw this in the sidebar and just had to see what it was. The encounter was very nearly fatal--because I found myself convulsing. With laughter!  Having seen but brief clips from the impressive film covering that iconic battle, I'm sure most of what's here goes over my head, but even so...

It's been a while since I last cooked brown rice, but ISTR that it took about 45 minutes to get tender. Milled white rice, on the other hand will cook up nicely in 20 minutes. I think so-called Minute Rice™ cooks up even faster, but I never touch the stuff.

You put your finger on something there. Wargamers tend to buy games that depict some area of warfare that they are interested in. They probably already know something about it and want to learn and experience more. Nearly all wargamers have at least heard of Barbarossa and even some fraction of casual gamers have. But much smaller numbers have even heard of Bagration. As BFC have explained it, it made good sense to begin with 1944 for reasons of ease of production, but it also may have cut into sales to do so.

There was an Ostfront movie released here just recently called "1944", i thought it was pretty good. Basically about Estonian soldiers in WWII on both sides of the conflict. Not in English though sorry, did have english subs at the cinema.

I had two platoons of Tigers engage two platoons of IS-2s from 800-600 yds. The result? Three IS-2s knocked out for the loss of all of my Tigers. Lots of 88 rounds bounced off the IS-2s and even when my Tigers scored a penetration that didn't always mean that they would succeed in knocking out the IS-2, while the IS-2s only needed to score one hit a Tiger to completely destroy it. I'm not sure I'll try to engage IS-2s head on with anything other than King Tigers from now on.

The bombing was keeping a large number of Germans at home fixing the damage all of the time instead of working in the factories or being sent to the Eastern Front. Germany industrial output rose during the war until 1945 when defeat was imminent but the point of strategic bombing was to prevent it from rising as high as it could. It was the suppressing effect of the campaign that produced the result, not the outright destruction. One might argue that this wasn't worth all the effort but I think the chronically under strength Divisions off in the Eastern Front might disagree. The Americans and British did not indeed, reap the benefits of their bombing until very late in the war. It was the Russians who probably seeing and getting the most from it.

This is why I have no love for the "Russians/Americans/British won WW2" nationalist chest-thumping tripe. The war was won by the collective effort of the Allied powers. Not by the singular struggle of any one of them.

Why on earth would we want to score points with you? Can they be redeemed for desirable merchandise? Not a chance in hell. What merchant in his right mind is going to trade desirable goods for PisserMike points? This doesn't even rise to the level of a bad joke.

    Blessings PanzerMouse.
I'm just a trained chef who proudly salutes his worthy MontPellier ancestor who hastily set sail for New France after a dispute over the ownership of a chicken... And who wisely married a mohawk girl.

Ah Paris. the unwiped rectal whorifice of a nation. Her effluent is the Seine, which seeps noxiously into the channel. Alas a large chunk has caught betwixt Wales and Scotland. Wouldst that all the Isle du France region might flow downstream, and wash ashore on Norfolk, where hygene is equaly distained.

So when didst thou get out of your frenchman????
