  1. This is all very interesting Now, a question, if thermals in the T-90 doesn't allow it to identified targets beyond 2Km at night, would they ever use ATGM in the dark? because it seems to me that a that range you are better of with KE munition, unless you run out of it...but of course, I´m a lawyer not a tank commander!
  2. Ok, didn´t remember exactly, don´t know if those have some kind of counter measure against TOWs, but so far I have had no luck with them in CMBS
  3. In my first run at the initial US campaign mission the Bradley you get at the start couldn't do anything with it`s TOWs, 2 were launched against tanks (I guess T-90s) but went off course by a wide margin In CMSF if I remember right TOWs were very effective, I was surprised to see them going nowhere, Javelins on the other hand still are a kind of magical weapon of instant doom, why don`t they put those on everything?
  4. I guess they assumed that it was better to do one for each side, with a total close to 15, than a big one for just the US plus some Ukrainians attached, but it does feel short and you don´t care so much about loosing core units this way, save for tanks maybe...perhaps 7 or 8 missions long campaigns, with some replacements available a some point would have been the sweet spot for tactical diversity, I think I got more "attached" to my units in CMSF, but I guess story telling is not the central point of a wargame Those poor russian recon guys were used as "one-time enemy detectors" for the most part without much consequence...wish I could split one man sections for maximum detecting!
  5. It`s a great scenario Saddest moment...don't know how, but one of the trucks decided it would be a great idea to go over the minefield at the center bridge on it`s way to deliver Javelins.... My left flank collapsed rather quickly (reduced to one guy hiding in a corner for the rest of the battle) but the center and right flank held long enough for reinforcements to arrive and save the day
  6. Just wanted to post my first impressions, from someone who skipped all the WWII games since CMSF After a few battles I can say this is a very different game, that offers more tactical variety and opportunities to grow, and funnier if you prefer balance over probability of occurrence I guess in part it is the setting, CMSF was a great game and I played for hours and hours, but it was inevitably unbalanced, most of the time it was about searching for Syrian units and doing some careful cleaning...it could be challenging, you could definitely blunder but, in consequence, it generally demanded a lower pace, very different feel The other half is probably the updates to the engine, I understand the AI at a high level depends on pre planned commands and objectives, but so far it does a better job at the illusion of decision making, maybe it is the lethality of the systems that puts the tactical AI more at the center of the action, specially at close range but even at medium and long ranges, I don`t know, but overall it feels more "alive" CMSF has the appeal of being more plausible and closer to reality, but CMBS feels like one big crazy training/what if scenario where both teams forgot the codes to launch the nukes, and you get to trash every new shiny toy in a fast and unmerciful way Now keep the modules coming!
  7. You can define Wargames easily...just ask your friends to play one...if it is about war and they won't touch it in a million years then it is a wargame... That`s been my experience since I started playing video games in 1986
  8. Without the intent of fueling a hot topic I just want to add that it would definitely be convenient for BF games to be on Steam, at least to me as a costumer I recently bought Command: Modern Air/Naval Operations in their last sale, a very niche game/simulator, and it´s definitely a plus not to be hunting patches/fixes, I hope it soon gets Steam Workshop support Paradox Interactive is another big success story about their transition to Steam, and so AGEOD it seems, since they are in the same group as Matrix and Slitherine I won´t argue about it with BF, I don´t have the numbers nor data nor the entitlement feeling to tell them what to do, just my experience with other small/medium strategy focused companies that made that move, and it´s being positive so far, again, as a costumer And I´ll keep buying BF games I like one way or the other
  9. SF may be represented in small elements behind enemy lines, as spotters or in a town preparing an ambush on a light armored convoy, but other, more subtle, operations like hostage rescue or assassination of high ranking officers would be harder to represent in this game and probably lead to frustration Personally I prefer for BF to focus their efforts on more conventional forces
  10. Thanks for the reply I thought I might have missed something during the process, release is supposed to be a couple of weeks away in any case I skipped the WWII games since I´m bored with the period (playing strategy/war games since the 80s), and being waiting for this one since Shock Forces
  11. Hi I live in Argentina, when I tried to pre order the game there is no option to download only The problem with this is it calculates a fee for shipping, $27 plus the $55, It may no sound like much but U.S. Dollars are not cheap for someone earning an income in Pesos So, it turns out it would be cheaper to wait an pay $65 for a download only option after release, right? I don't mind paying $55 and not receiving any physical items, although I see how this may confuse potential costumers, but it would be great for people living outside the U.S. as a special option Anyway, if I missing something please tell, and if there is a chance for a "download only" pre order I will be clicking on it right away
  12. For what is worth it, I vote in faver of the danger zone if possible, not only for vehicles but for Javelins and such, it adds a tactical problem to a tactical level wargame, it is what most of us want out of this games I guess...It´s not like adding the possibilty of the driver forgetting the keys of the tank, wich would put the game closer to "The Sims" And I´m sure a simple switch could be added to disable it as an option...
  13. Hope it is, I guess that from a marketing point of view it would be easy to make a module than a full game out of that "exotic" scenario, I will be happy either way
  14. I played my first WWII wargame on a Commodore 128k around 1987, I´m kind of bored of the period already, but obviously is the more profitable, I just hope there is enough profits to justify more modern CM games. In particular, aside from obvious Europe WWIII scenario a Russia vs. China game would be great.
  15. Ever since I bought CMSF & Modules earlier this month I thought a turkish module would be best because it could be added as a blue NATO ally and also as an hypotetical rogue commander´s force turning on blue... In a tactical game the impossibility of sustaining conventional warfare without a chain of supply can be tolerated for fun´s sake...Within the setting it can just be a mid level officer with a couple of battalions, changing loyalities for whatever reason (politics/religion/money/power)
  16. Too bad there can´t be a mobile version, maybe for the iTablet (or whatever Apple wants to call it) when it comes out... And back to the game, is the T-90 MBT featured in the full game? I think I only saw T-80s in the demo...
  17. I was thinking about getting TacOps 4 too, so I´ve playing the demo on a Windows 7 64bits PC, no problems after two full runs trough each avaiable scenario. So I can confirm it has aged well enough. And then I had an idea, because I wish I could have it with me all the time, why not a TacOps for the iPhone?!?! Thas´s my new year´s wish! Cheers!
