  1. I'm still upset that Jar Jar Binks didn't die a horrific death!
  2. He was an old time cavalry officer at heart! It sounds like something JEB Stuart would have done if he'd had the equipment.
  3. A Tiger tank can really mess up a well maintained lawn!
  4. Also, in battle, you aren't always free to choose how close you get to the enemy- or rather how close the enemy gets to you!
  5. So true. A major computer virus, released by China will mutate and latch onto CMBN as it's being downloaded by all of us, on May 21st. The only effect it will have on the game is to make all the soldiers look and sound like Justin Bieber! The mental anguish of the Combat Mission community will be so great that it will rip apart the Earth's core.
  6. "Firefly" is a truly great series that deserved many more years than the one they gave it. Another from about a dozen years ago was "Space Above and Beyond" I really enjoyed it but was left hanging when they cancelled it after a year. I don't watch a lot of tv, so I really get into the few things I like and it seems that anything I like has a short life!
  7. That's kind of a problem- the more realistic computer graphics become, the more out of place the slightest irregularity is. The nice thing with CM1 was that it brought a lot of realism, yet not even attempting photo-realism, so you didn't feel the need for things to be perfect.
  8. I guess that's better than carrying a heavy pack across France through all types of weather and combat. But I'm sure, at least the busiest days of firing, would have been hard work.
  9. I do remember hearing some stuff on the old tv show "WKRP in Cincinnati" and how it was one of the top shows at the time, but some of the executives at the network that it played on, had personal problems with the guy who created the show, so they ended up cancelling it- even though it was one of their top shows. I think a lot of times it's not really about money but about people throwing their weight around. That goes for government, and most any other large organizations, where some people have a lot of power.
  10. True! It did seem to get pretty repetitive after a while. But the first book is a classic! If I remember right, I think there was a board game made on it when I was a kid. Of course, today, there wouldn't be many people that have even heard about it to bother making a game based on it.
  11. Imagine the aching backs of the men that had to load those 1000+ rounds over a few days!
  12. LOL! Growing up reading lots of Sci-Fi, I would be happy if they did a future CM game based on David Drake's "Hammer's Slammers", a mercenary armored regiment, with hover tanks, plasma guns, etc., that would travel to different planets to fight for the highest bidder.
  13. Nostradamus prophesied in Century 10, Quatrain 67: "combattre la mission au-delĂ  de Normandie" shall rise from the battlefront on the day of the second full moon of Spring in the year of the "laden bin" collapsing. Thus it must be a release date of May 17th.
  14. I remember getting SSI's "Combat Leader" for my Commodore 64- on cassette tape. And at the time it seemed so advanced and cool!
  15. LOL! Well, I have thought about how if a worldwide catastrophe destroyed the infrastructure to the point that there was no electricity available, much less things like computers being produced, etc., board wargames would be a treasure and I'd get back into playing all those that have been collecting dust on my shelves!
  16. What if they simply relied on us to spread the word? We could all become Combat Mission Hari Krishnas, hanging out at our local airports, forcing Battlefront literature on passersby.
  17. As my oldest nephews started becoming teens, I really hoped to get them interested in the games I enjoy, but they just don't seem to have the patience. They want flashy, fast and something that takes little or no planning or thought. They judge wargames by the standard of FPS's and don't care for rising above, to command large units. I can't help but think as new generations come, they will be even more Attention Deficit Disordered and as we die off, things like CM will follow us!
  18. Yeah! As a kid, I had plenty of time to spend on board and computer games, but as I got older, it was hard to find the long stretches of time to plunge into something. That's why I love the WEGO of CM. I can fit a battle into many individual time periods.
  19. I would absolutely love a modern remake of SSG's Carriers At War! I had the original on my Commodore 64 and I can't count the hours I spent playing it! The newer versions improved it, especially with the cool, if rather basic attack animations, but they could really make it great today!
  20. I think those of us who appreciate games like CM are less common than albino sequential hermaphrodites!
  21. Very true! In something like CM I may feel a bit more like my troops are real men that I don't want to get killed needlessly, but, in reality, no game will ever truly give you that feeling- they are still going to be computer generated troops in a GAME and you aren't going to be as careful with them as you would real men- for most of us we play because it's fun, while real combat is not fun- it is horrible and losing just one man would be crushing to a leader. I love seeing CM develop greater realism, starting with CMBO and progressing, but in the end, that realism will always be partial and that's actually a good thing, because most of us want to enjoy playing- as a GAME.
