  1. If you play RT just hit cancel target once the offending BMP/tank has been zapped - a pain and obviously no help to WEGO but it works for me.
  2. Nope sorry can't remember - I think the symbology came to light because someone posted a screenshot on an unrelated topic. As the mod didn't interest me I didn't really pay much attention. Sorry I can't be of more assistance.
  3. I think there's a mod out there already which goes someway to what you are after.
  4. According to Steve the rumoured red module is just that - the module 'surprise' that was mentioned in the other thread relates to blue apparently.
  5. The nearest rough approximation to a British FR Regiment would be an Armored Cavalry Squadron - minus the good stuff!! FR Regiments are now down at Bde level in the British Army post FAS and typically comprise a couple of Sabre Squadrons with CVR(T) Scimitar and some CVR(T) Spartan and a C&S Squadron mounted mainly on CVR(T) Spartan.
  6. Simpson22 - If we boil down to ground truth v game terms at the end of the day I'm sure the reason Jackal has been announced is because Jackal is being used by the British Forces although I accept that not all British kit has been listed. In terms of the arguments for and against - like it or not there are plenty of people out there (and I'm talking bayonets rather than budgeteers) who prefer mobility versus protection. On top of that there are places that WMIK/M-WMIK can go that Warrior/Viking/Mastiff cannot. Looking at the HERRICK (Afghanistan) force, all of these vehicles are in the ORBAT - why - because they have their own unique strengths and weaknesses and by having all of them it gives the commander the freedom to choose the best tool for the job. As to the argument about tracks upsetting people - relevant - in certain circumstances yes ... like if you have pavements to clip and road surfaces to trash. Does the average Afghan get bent out of shape about a Warrior turning up vice a Jackal - they might do but I would suggest that they get less bent out of shape than populations that have some form of infrastructure. I do however accept your political point which to my mind is treasury rather than needs driven in that some clown decided that tracked vehicles were 'too aggressive' when they actually meant 'too expensive'. At the end of the day if the British Army has to go somewhere it usually means there's free beer or the situation has gone pear-shaped. When things go pear-shaped the needs of the average civvy boil down to security - convince them that you can do that and they'll accept you.
  7. I can't believe I'm entering a WW2 debate but hey here goes ... Peiper (spelling) had King Tigers (or Tiger 2s if you prefer) during the Battle of the Bulge.
  8. The Royal Marines didn't get MK19s - the grenade launcher is called the GMG (Grenade Machine Gun) and as Flamingknives said - its made by Heckler Koch.
  9. Nothing is listed but would like to see at least a truck for the Syrians - Gaz-66 would be my favourite.
  10. With regard to the WMIK or M-WMIK the general opinion is that manoeuvrability and reach have their own advantages versus shedloads of protection and limited manoeuvrability. WMIK and M-WMIK are well-regarded by those who use them despite them not being heavily armoured - for evidence of this read 3 Commando or Blood Clot - these books tell the story of the Marines on Herrick 5 and the Paras on Herrick 4.
  11. The standard drill would probably be for the crew to attempt to strip out what they can - particularly radio equipment or crypto. What happened from there would depend on the situation - attempt to repair/recover or remain on overwatch. If that was not possible the vehicle would be denied to the enemy by whatever means were available - chucking grenades in it or firing an anti-tank weapon at it or getting air/avn to destroy it.
  12. Sorry to disappoint but there are no heavy role armoured units in the Guards Division - the Blues and Royals and the Life Guards are now the Household Cavalry Regiment and are in the Formation Recce Role. All that said - with the unit editor you can pick and mix to a degree and what used to be termed fairly 'standard' battlegroups are becoming less common. If you read Dusty Warriors by Richard Holmes for instance you'll see that the PWRR BG in Al Amarah had heavy armour, armoured infantry and light role infantry grouped under command. The current Chief of the General Staff was quoted in the press a couple of months ago as stating that perhaps units should be task-organised/battlegrouped semi-permanently in order for them to train as they would fight on operations.
  13. Going back to the individual units bit - simply rename the name of the unit in the unit editor after purchasing it.
  14. The whole purpose of FAS for the infantry was to lose the Arms Plot because of the time and expense required to rerole units from say Light Role to Armoured Infantry Role. As a result big units were created allowing people to stay in the same cap badge but remain in a specified role. So unless there is a change of policy - the roles for the individual Battalions of the Royal Regiment of Scotland will not change.
  15. Better that its done well rather than rushed out is my philosophy - I think the fact that we haven't seen any pictures of the dismounts yet suggests that it'll be a while off yet.
  16. I guess the question you have to ask yourself is how many ground floor balconies do you see in real life? I certainly haven't seen any - to that end I surmise the reason you can't create ground floor balconies is because they don't exist.
  17. So how do I do that? If I go into the Blue purchase screen on a Blue v Red battle all I get are US forces (for Blue unit picks). If I go Blue v Blue all I get is US units and if I go Red v Red all I get is Syrians/Uncons? Am I missing something here?
  18. Well a lot of the Brit kit isn't 21st Century - Bulldog is an uprated FV-430 series which was first deployed in the 1960s, CVR(T) was designed in the 1960s and rolled out in the 1970s, Warrior doesn't have the luxury of an ATGM and Javelin is restricted to certain specialist units in the Brit TO&E. I think T-72 TURMS and BMP-2 properly employed will challenge the British.
  19. That's a term we use for the same function in Iraq - we must have nicked it off you. I forgot to mention that OMLTs are colloquially known as Omelettes.
  20. MikeyD - interesting point about the Uncons - can't understand that at all - IDF attacks are a fact of life - all I'm asking for is at the minimum a unit called 'Mortar Team' With that you get an FOO and 1 x 82mm mortar. I don't see BFC's issue there - so long as you set the experience level to conscript and supply level to scarce or severe I think that would be a pretty good way of having an insurgent IDF team without upsetting the balance of the game. I've just got a few missions and maybe the makings of a Stability Ops Campaign whirring around in my head and these would be great to have. As I say I'll get over it simply by creating a normal FOO and mortar group for the fire mission and have the AI exit them from the map. I then put in a normal Uncon or a spy in the FOO location and rename him 'Dicker' or 'IDF Observer'. The vehicle thing not showing up at the end I wasn't aware of (mind you I've only just patched) - in which case I can live with my current solution if there are huge technical issues with large flavour objects.
  21. Now I fully understand the constraints of abstraction and all that and I'm pretty sure modelling civilians isn't going to happen along with modelling some of the more stability operations oriented vehicles. However I think with what we have right now there is a possibility to add a couple of things: 1. Now that Red has a proper indirect fire capability I would like to see UNCON FOOs and UNCON mortars as well as the single shot 107mm rockets. Of course I can work around this by using a regular Syrian Army FOO but I would see this as eminently doable without too much stress. 2. Any chance of cars as flavour objects? Again I can work around this by creating a specialist transport group and then starting them off as destroyed but it then means that they don't appear until blue sees them and of course they appear in the end of mission screen (I think!). It would be nice to have them parked on streets as street furniture.
  22. Conceptually it sounds fine - we the Brits have things called OMLTs (Operational Mentoring and Liaison Teams) embedded with the ANA (Afghan National Army) and I'm pretty sure the US has exactly the same although I can't remember what they're called. These guys train the ANA and go into combat with them so the concept is realistic. As to the mission - I haven't seen it - I'm having real problems downloading stuff right now.
  23. Shouldn't snipers perform better than they do in the game though? I remember one scenario downloaded from CMMODS where there is a sniper group and to be honest I wasn't sure that it hit much at all.
  24. Mark, Ok - just tried it ... and it does fit - can't work out why it never did before. Must be me on default setting (dumb) I guess. Fair cop - but the mortar thing I think needs looking at. It cannot be right that a Bn Mortar Platoon potentially can have worse mortars than a Coy.
