  1. Hev, To often people say some really weird stuff in forums: see fark.com in the politics section, for an example. You can totally hate me for being reasonable, its actually not an uncommon response, and it creates a reason to continue the conversation! I was at work when i made that post, and i was super pissed about how my day was going, so i think i vented my frustration here instead of into my bosses face. Presently i'm in Vegas, I've been bombed the last two nights straight, and it is all good. BTW my good buddy was a (Humvee) TOW gunner in the 82nd Airborne, i'm going see him on tomorrow for dinner and i will ask him about failure rates just to see what kind of failure rate he experienced. Though he was in in peacetime, i'm sure he'll have good perspective. I'm off to go shoot some automatic weapons at a range - they have an MP40, and M249 there - I'm very excited.
  2. Hev, I wasn't talking about you so much as the general attitude of players in the BFC forums - this is to a lesser degree than usual since two games just got major patches, and players have been positive about them. You're right though, asinine wasn't the right word, it was a little to much for the conversation. My bad.
  3. I cant believe people let this kind of stuff "ruin" their experience. Sorry to say, i find it kind of asinine. There are things in life we cannot control, the realism in this game is slightly dependant on how we perceive things in our own lives. It seems to so many people stomp their feet when everything isnt perfect. To expect perfection is ludicris. Things like troops not going through broken walls, people falling off buildings - i understand that - but this is like saying all my bullets didnt hit the target like i thought they would in my own mind, therefore it is broken! So a missle(s) doesnt hit, wow, my world is crashing down. oh noes. Enjoy the game for the sake of the game, not the sake of perfection. Nothing personal, it just gets tiring seeing this all the time. It makes me think i dont want to read the forum cause i enjoy my in game experience. Sure things arent perfect, but really what game is? Maybe i just assume every once in a while i might not win a battle, that happens as a result of circumstances out of my control, things like missles malfunctioning - things malfunction.
  4. I've had this happen a few times, but not a whole lot of times - not since 1.4 or so though.
  5. Yes, the battle generator installs on your desktop, and into your battlefront directory under TOW. It is exceptinally easy to use. You know its really funny, after mulling around for a few months going back and forth about the game i finally purchased it on Sunday. I go into the mission editor and i wanted to kill myself because it is so complex, and then wham Monday morning Battlefront hears my pleas and puts out a 1.2 gig hotfix. Man is that great customer service or what?
  6. If ever there is a shortfall in Artillery candidates, send in the Battlefront Brigade.
  7. I have to admit i am a little disappointed with the lack of content in this thread. What gives?
  8. I did not know that (what was mentioned above with the movement stuff), that is a great feature. See it wasnt such a silly question after all!
  9. In buildings, they do what they are supposed to, but i have yet to see it on terrain other than a building. Half the guys will engage and the other half will constantly point their weapons and then pull them back, point their weapons and pull them back, but never actually engage. Frustrating to say the least.
  10. I dont know if its been brought up, and i think this would specifically effect RT, but i dont know how it could be implemented in turn-based. Frequently a problem i come across is that when i want a squad to go to a crest in a hill i will move them to that area and the front several guys will see my target, but part of the rest of the squad will not line up correctly, and be ineffective as they cannot see over the crest of said hill. In many games i play where you have command of units, i.e. Total War Series, you can hold down the mouse button with the unit selected, and then pivot the unit to a position that you see fit, so that they are lined up how you want them, instead of all over the place. Is there a way this could be implemented? It would make playing the game a ton more fun, as you would have infinitely more control of how the squad deploys, instead of hoping for the best, and then losing a few guys as you are correcting. I know people have brought up the question of deploying into formations, but this isnt really that, but kind of in the same vein. I'm more looking for a line command, with a pivot interface to correct.
  11. COD4 is more about people sticking to a product that has consistently delivered and kept its fan base alive with fast paced games that deliver every time. It was inevitable that people would buy that game in droves regardless of its setting. They actually made a really good decision to change the format to modern as WWII was just getting very tired. Personally i think BFC made a great decision about changing CM to modern, do i think they should have done a Russian Mod instead of a Syrian Mod? You bet! I think people are irked by this game more because they are just not familiar with the Syrian Army, partly because its basically Russian lite and mentioned above just not familiar. Its hard to compare the two games, because they appeal to such vastly different audiences. I don't see to many 11 y/o boys with squeaky voices calling everyone a ghey or a h4xor in the forum. Likewise i don't see 40 y/o dudes playing the COD series and getting their knickers in a twist over the fact that a gun sight might not be mounted correctly on his favorite assault weapon. But remember, although i frequent this forum on a daily basis for ****s and giggles, its just a game. We should be thankful that there is a company that provides it to us. Whether we have issues with the game, thats up to the individual, they should vote with their feet, not with their bad attitudes.
  12. I personally dont like episodic content, you almost feel this urge that you MUST buy it whether you will it enjoy it or not. Most of the "modules" in present day games are nothing more than reskinned memes that act exactly the same as the content before it. I guess i can point to games like the Battlefield Series(s), or the Tony Hawk Series - very little in the changing of the core game itself. Of course this is not to discount the BF series, i quite enjoyed all of the previous games thoroughly. I have though come to expect with every new game a massive leap forward in the game itself - as CMBB was to CMBO. Currently i feel that it would behoove BFC to add a great deal of content into say CMx2 WWII, as opposed to small content. I think this because so many people were let down by CMSF compared to previous releases, that it would kind of be a slap to the face to have to pay over and over again for what they gave us for free in CMx1. I'm pretty sure this has all been discussed previously however.
  13. Great book, loved it a few years ago when i read it.
  14. Very nicely done. Thanks BFC for opening up this great tool to the community.
  15. I've already found 2 issues. When i blast a wall, the guys go through - except for the M249 guys - what gives? The squad moves all around the building , but the 249 guys stay outside at the blast area. The only way to get the 249 guys to move is exit the building. Second issue is I had a squad come under fire when they were entering a building, so i told them to stop, half the squad was in the building in various stages of the building, and half the squad was entering with 2 guys outside. I issued a stop order and they laid down. I had to split the squad to get them to move again, because they wouldnt go anywhere until i told them to split. I like that the blast part is semi fixed, and some of the other gimmicks, but i havent seen what i was looking for yet - but alas this is only after 15 mins of play on one map. I will spend the better part of this weekend playing different maps and testing it out.
  16. I don't think we need the personal attacks, they don't add anything to the conversation. Whether it be true or not, it doesn't help. I see the problem with skelley is that he imposes his morality on the situation. In philosophy its called Moral Relativism. You say cutting off heads is wrong, they say showing the souls of your feet is wrong. To either of our cultures, these have very different and significant meanings. To us in the West life is sweetest thing, for them death in battle for God is the sweetest thing. This whole issue of them not wearing uniforms really is a pointless exercise in seeing from only one perspective, and it stunts the mind. In the not so distant past it was a very common thing to lop off peoples heads and put them on pikes, why, as a warning to people - this is the price you pay for breaking our rules. The Romans used crucification as a common tool of punishment - i don't really see the difference between stapling someone to a cross to die of exposure, or cutting their head off. Just because the peoples in the East haven't become "civilized" like us in the West doesn't mean that their form of combat is any more morally repugnant. We fly bombers that wipe villages off the face of the earth at the touch of a button - how is that fair? Why should they wear uniforms? Their country was overtaken by invaders, what flag do they have to fly? You could say that they elected Karzai, but did they really have a choice? I wouldn't argue that the Taliban should be in power, but they did actually take over and administer the country after the Soviets left, just as foreign invaders at one time took over our country and silenced the original inhabitants. Do you think the Native Americans appreciated the Europeans coming and killing them all? Was it wrong for them to take scalps? On and on it goes.
  17. For me it really comes down to this. WWII, fanatical Nazi zealots take over a country and they lead to the deaths of some 60 million people. They gas, they bomb, the burn, they destroy. You're point is that we cant trust the zealots. Of course we can't, thats not the point. The point is eventually something will happen, something will turn, somebody's children will have had enough. Unfortunately we cant just take out their government like the good old days - but its just a matter of time. I realize we're in for the long haul, and i have actually always agreed with the invasion of Afghanistan. Yesterday in the new you see that GWB wrote Kim Jong Il a letter, who would have thought in the million years that he would do that? Is it possible that finally GWB blinked? Is there anything wrong with that? I personally find it highly pragmatic, and even honorable. I realized it might take 20 years to pacify Afghanistan, and i think its worth it, but eventually cooler heads will prevail. People have always found a way to eventually come together and stop killing each other. The thing that really gets me is the people who say we cant negotiate with these people, but thats exactly why this ridiculous cycle keeps happening. We have to negotiate, we MUST negotiate. Maybe not now, maybe not for another 5-10 years, but eventually someone will say ENOUGH. Regarding suicide attacks, ever heard of the Charge of the Light Brigade? British Cavalry riding to their certain death for King and Country. Or maybe you've heard of Pickett's Charge - certain death. Suicide all of them, but glorious death for a cause - their cause. What would you do against tanks and airplanes? would you throw rocks? No, you would do what you had to. You only say its wrong because its not your family getting its door kicked in, its not your culture being mistakenly disrespected, its not your crop being burned by the government.
  18. skelley i didnt say you said anything about Muslims... I just followed your train of thought to its rightful conclusion. Just because they have very gory methods of getting things done, do you really for one moment believe the psychos that are convinced that these people dont have an agenda other than this ridiculous notion of a world wide Caliphate? Of course they have another agenda, what it is i havent the slighest clue. Sure you could quote the Quran and tell me it's in their bible, but i'm sure i could bring up some stuff from the bible that is equally bad. The real crazies who believe that they have to kill all the infidels are the ones who die first, and they die the most and i agree we should let them - there is no place in this world for them. This notion that there is no negotiation is ludicrous. Eventually they or us will give in and things will go back to status quo until the next incident. Its just a matter of how many people have to be culled first to stop the craziness.
  19. People like Skelley with their "You can't negotiate with people like this." kind of make me want to throw my hands up in the air and scream. Sadly you have this victim complex about Sept 11th. and you will never be able to live it down. You can't kill them all, there arent enough bullets in the world to kill all the bad people in the night. Eventually there will be negotiation - or there would be perpetual fighting for the rest of eternity. There is ALWAYS room for negotiation, for instance we can use the Sunni's in Iraq as a perfect example. The Sunni have started making strategic alliances with the American troops in their region to help rid them of Al Queda in Iraq. These are the same people who killed untold numbers of their fellow countrymen, in horrible ways. Yet.... there is room for negotiation. All the end timers out there are so thoroughly confused as to the root cause of all this evil, they only see evil, they dont see the humanity behind it. Edited the second paragraph because he clarified himself. [ December 07, 2007, 04:28 PM: Message edited by: hammelman ]
  20. BigDuke6 hit the nail right on the head with his post. Havent we heard this story before? As if one town will determine the fate of the now almost 6 year old insurgency. When the war is won then you can celebrate and ooh-aww and thump your chest. Until that time, its just another operation with a silly name like "White Lighting" that accomplishes little. I'm figuring the body count will be in the mid 30's if everything goes as it always does. Regarding the what if scenario's about WWII. It happened the way it happened, countries did what they needed to do, Nazism failed, Communism swallowed Eastern Europe, and the West saved itself. There should be no hard feelings, or what if's. Things had to be done for the *greater good* and thats how it goes.
