  1. The attributes of a Hiding vehicle in CM constitute a puzzle inside an enigma. Presumably the crew has cut the engine to eliminate the sound signature. But there's no time penalty for restarting, which for a tank can be a rather convoluted procedure. Also the turret speed should be affected. And it appears that it's not. Serendipitous camouflage?
  2. Right. I meant to type 'limit a family to one base game and one module'.
  3. Humble advice: divide all the 'families' into exactly two modules not three as in CMBN. That avoids the stress over potentially gypping those who bought module#1 but not module#2 in terms of playable content available in module#3.
  4. You just quoted yourself, Ian. I admire that in a man.
  5. John Kettler, Ed Kettler... You're both lucky your parents saw fit to bestow on you 'regular guy' names. Makes life a lot easier. Just imagine 'Praisegod Barebones Kettler'! (shudder)
  6. I find it mind blowing that not a single poster has mentioned SQUISHIES! Soldiers too slow or too old or just guilty of having dozed off in their foxholes who end up coating the treads of of a Sherman or Panther like chewing gum on the soles of your girlfriend's Reeboks. C'mon, Battlefront.
  7. To be fair, recent visits confirm the toxicity level has been declining since Dark Lord Sauron (M.Dorosh) disappeared. A few diehards have left. Some of the refugees have turned up here. I don't know, but one suspects that if a group of adult men gripped with an obsessive aversion to you and your works consecrated a forum to discussing your defects you'd find it kind of, uh, flattering. Shows your Great Power!
  8. Doesn't seem right to vote for CM while being totally ignorant of all the other candidates- except a few by name. On the other hand, it often seems that Battlefront doesn't get the credit they deserve in the larger community. The mere mention of the name 'Combat Mission' seems to provoke explosive (hmmm...) controversy, both negative and positive, in certain quarters. It's the only war gaming company with an entire forum (not this one) dedicated to slamming, deprecating or dismissing their products . Maybe one could consider the phenomenon a kind of twisted tribute to their success and longevity.
  9. Rommel never favored assassinating Hitler. He wanted to have him arrested and put on trial. When Rommel's complicity in the conspiracy was made known to Hitler he was pressured to commit suicide. Wiki: Rommel had specified that no political paraphernalia were to be displayed on his corpse, but the Nazis made sure he was fully festooned with swastikas.
  10. Was there a soldier implicated in the various kill-Hitler plots who wasn't a member of the German nobility? The Fuehrer could have used some kind of aristocratic outreach program.
  11. And don't forget the- much needed- FOW limitations introduced in GL. Ian.Leslie has a point about leapfrogging. There's a built-in incentive to buy the most recent release in order to enjoy the latest refinements. Eventually the updates filter down to the earlier games/modules but that may take a while. It makes a great- if inadvertent- marketing strategy.
  12. Totally agree. I think it was a bleed over from the Fox station. Too bad, 'cause I flagged a rather serious graphic bug. Now I can't remember the vehicle in question! BTW, Dick Morris is the last pundit on earth from whom I'd solicit a prognostication. His record is 100%... wrong.
  13. Just replayed it. You're right! No clue where the Dick Morris (I think) advert came from. Weird stuff.... So I deleted it.
  14. C'mon, let's get real. Battlefront will never get a military contract with CM:EF.
  15. Most likely correct. The Italians squads, which cannot break down into teams, still display the bowling pin formation. screenshot by lightshot
  16. Nah, it's all in the points. BF hasn't adjusted the attacker/defender ratio or unit values since the game came out 2 yrs ago. Since then there have been significant changes, like the MG buff or the recent FOW strictures, which skew the advantage in favor of the defending side. But they refuse to revisit QB parameters. It's bottomless pit of controversy, ya see.
  17. I hear you! A bit off topic: do Scouts enjoy a, well, scouting bonus by virtue of their specialization? In addition to their binocs...
  18. Because these weapons possess unmistakable sound signatures? My question is why they reveal HQ units under the new FOW regime. Their radios? In that case FO teams should be exhibited as well, no?

  20. Yes, it is. Keep in mind that it's a relatively short movement. Over a significant distance- hundreds of meters- I notice the squads tend to separate into 2-3 files. But not single file as in the earlier CM2 iterations (I seem to recall).
