By Jove I've got It! I know what is wrong with CM:SF!

I wonder if "Spy vs Spy" game mode will be avalible in the future? -
Any way to adjust LOD? I want to see the trenches
Roter Stern replied to Thumbs's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Have you tried adjusting the 3D model quality in the Options? You can even do it while in-game with Shift+[ and Shift+] keys -
Well, I'm quite certain that this is either a bug or is a "low priority" feature that didn't make it into v1.0 because of time ... or at least I'd like to hope so.

Blah.. double post

The only work-around I was able to figure out for the lack of the LOS tool in the editor is painting the entire map with one side’s setup zone, loading up the scenario, and using the setup phase to move a unit around the map and check the LOS. Needless to say that process is agonizingly slow, especially when changes need to be made to the map to adjust the LOS.
-
Anothe issue is that there is no way to bring up the Target command while in the Editor's 3D view... so the scenario designer cant be dynamically moving units in the editor and checking their LOS

Why can't you tell units what weapon to use??
Roter Stern replied to YancyFry's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Well then you should... like i said, there is an entire mission dedicated to using Javs As for the manual - Page 65 "Acquire"; and then page 192 with icons to figure out which pieces of the Javelin puzzle your squads are carrying -
Suggestion for UI improvement: AQUIRE
Roter Stern replied to Blackmuzzle's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Well, it would've been nice to be able to pickup *ammo* from fallen soliers... or rather have the squads do it automatically. All too often I end up with a dead RPG team with a full backpack of good old HEAT, while an identical RPG team still in good health is resorting to throwing chickens at the enemy. -

Have you played the tutorial? Perhaps you should ... there is an entire mission dedicated to Javelins Have you read the manual? Perhaps you should ... there is an entire section dedicated to special equipment -
Suggestion for UI improvement: AQUIRE
Roter Stern replied to Blackmuzzle's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Although I see you point, I think Aquire already goes against the grain of the CM-series... next thing you know we'll be looking at a paper-doll layout of Sgt. Nubhead's TacVest layout of ammo and gear, telling him which pouch to reload mags from... If not for the stupid Javelins, we could easily get away without Aquire -

Ok, well first of all, make sure that your teams have the Launch Module and the Launch Tubes... I never had a problem getting the Javs to fire... as long as you're not targeting an empty plot of grass the TacAI will get them fired away. I've leveled entire city blocks with a platoon worth of Javelins by just telling the squads to target buildings. Also keep in mind they won't fire automatically at sort targets, although I'm not sure how high enemy ATGM teams are on the TacAI list. If you'd still like more control over them, why not separate the AT Team from the rest of the squad? That'll more or less produce a dedicated Javelin Team. -
Did a few tests on the IEDs - for Abrams and even Bradleys, the vehicles had to be right on top of a Large+ IED to get KO'ed ... any lesser combination, even a Huge IED to the side, doesn't do much of any damage. Strykers on the other hand are a little softer and can be taken out by a Large from 10-15m away, as well as a Med placed right under it. Small IEDs seem only useful against dismounts. But going back to the issue at hand... can anyone "in the know" comment on the Gun Elevation issue? has this been talked about in the past? As far as I remember CMBB and CMAK had it modeled, so I'd expect it to be pretty high up on the "wish list" for CMSF as well.

New battle: Contents Under Pressure
Roter Stern replied to JaguarUSF's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Love the terrain thou! Perhaps you should edit the Red force to have a bunch of RPG-29s? they have a reasonable chance of at least hitting the Abrams, as opposed to those AT-3s -
There are programs you can run that will display your frame rate... such as http://www.fraps.com/

well, at least the lense flare made it in...
-
From what I could make out the VBIED drove straight into the back of it, perhaps the corner, but either way it was damn close - no more than half a car length away
-
Well, the shooting though the hill thing I can understand... that kind of terrain would've been a killer on LOS calculations back in CMx1 with it's 20m terrain mesh... I can only imagine what kind of havoc the new 8m mesh can cause Also, in all fairness the hill did stop the main gun rounds from reaching the squad... the MG fire seems to have gotten though however, that's what caused all of the casualties and suppression.

Are gun elevation limits built into the game, i.e. are tanks supposed to be able to fire their main gun and the coax at units directly above them? Also, is vehicle attitude, i.e. hull tilt, taken into account for this? In other words, is this “supposed” to happen or is it actually a bug of some sort? The Abrams was able to fire it’s main gun and the coax at my team on top of the cliff – the red target line shows that the way the tank’s hull is tilted it would have to have it’s gun elevated to 90-degrees vertical in order to make that shot. Also, while we’re on the topic of “is this supposed to happen?” – are Abrams supposed to walk away with out a single casualty from a *rear* hit with a VBIED?

Also, 1 Section B Team is positioned outside of Red's Setup zone, so it can't be moved around during deployment. -

Yeah, same... what good are AT-3s when the longest LOS i could find for them was well under 450m? -
Trident Valley (spolier warning)
Roter Stern replied to mazex's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Tried it in TCP/IP multiplayer... not so good - jus the sheer number of Blue's IFV overpowers the Red too quick... 15 Bradleys vs 9 BMP-1s is hardly a good match, given it's a meeting engagment on a symetrical map -
you should be able to detatch the "AT Team" from the rest of the squad.. at which point you can tell the squad to hold fire, but still have the AT weapons fire away

Why ignore your beta testers? (too many problems)
Roter Stern replied to ridge's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Besides, from a perspective of a rabid-gamer, I can assure you that CMSF is a fantastic release as far as what the Beta teams could’ve picked up on… you should’ve seen MOO3’s launch… Let’s just say that not having a game CTD every time you accidentally press any two keys at the same time is already a blessing
