  1. There is a way to uninstall and unregister the game, thus preserving the both of the allowed instalations. Then you may resell it or give it away as you like. Search this forum and the docs that accompanied the game. Its in there somewhere.
  2. INteresting. Does it double as a mouse, or do you use it in conjunction with your mouse? I don't suppose they have a wireless one do they?
  3. Many here have experienced freezes, and many, including myself have resolved them. In case you have not seen it, there is a tech support forum. Personally, I found the turning off the in game music, and making sure the I ran the game in the same resolution as my system default seems to have solved my problems regarding freezes.
  4. I agree. It has its rough edges, but I reaaly feel that most of the complaints are comign from people who simply have not put enough time into the game yet. This game has mroe depth than meets the eye, and it is reasonable to expect it to take a while to get good at it. This is not the kind of game you are going to beat in a few hours. It's designed to last for months or years.
  5. Good ideas, though I see a problem with troops digging foxholes/trenches. As the game takes place in real time, this could be somewhat impractical. How long does it take a man to dig a foxhole? How long for a battalion to dig a trench? Hours, no? Somehow, I cannot imagine that this is practical in the heat of battle. Unless the trench is alreadymade, it just does not make sense for this genre.
  6. Yes I have experimented with the mission editor as well, and yes it is pretty overwhelming. I am just going by my obsevation of what happened in Il-2. For that game, there was/is a large community of mission designers, some who seem to enjoy making mission even more than playing the game. I am hoping that within 6 months or so that we will have such a healthy community here as well. Whether we see cmapaigns with 100+ missions, 50+, or even just 25 or so. It will certianly be a welcome occurance.
  7. Okay, well it helps to hear that it is working properly fro some of you. I will go back and try to observe things more closely. It may be that my unit lost LOS and I did not notice, or possibly that my unit came under enemy fire from another direction and was forced to deal with it.
  8. Naturally, there will be a steep learning curve with the mission editor, but I think it is safe to say that those who work with it for a while will become increasingly proficient with it and be able to design missions more quickly.
  9. When I put one of my units in Attack mode and target a specific enemy unit, is my unit supposed to continue attacking the targeted unit until it is destroyed, or is it necessary to target the unit repeatedly? I ask this becasue, in my experience so far, I am not getting consistent results in this situation. Let's say that I identify a specific enemy tank which I decide must be eliminated urgently. And so I will target it with my AT, or another tank and then move on to deal with the next threat. A minute or two later when I come back to chack out the AT's progress, I find that my AT is now pointing and fireing in another direction even through the tank I targeted with it is not disabled, and is still in range. When I target an enemy unit, am I really only ordering my unit to fire a single shot at the target?
  10. I agree. The included campaigns are more of what I would call thematic samplings rather than true campaigns. Its okay for a start, but we really do need someting beefier. The Geman campaign should be huge, consider they were in it for the entire war. Luckly the game is open-ended and users are free to develop their own battles and campaigns. This worked very well for Il-2 and I expect TOW will follow that model. It will take some time, but hopefully, we will eventually have user-made campaigns of 100+ missions. We had a few of those for Il-2, and a couple of mission delvopers eventually even went commercial with their creations. It would also help if the editor would allow us to make and splice in episodic videos (again Il-2 allows for this). Finally I wonder if it is possible to make campaigns that branch off in different directions depending upon whether the player wins or looses key battles?
  11. The ability to snap to first person view is a neat feature. However, I would use it a lot more often, if when exiting the view it autopmatically returned you to the view you were using previously. As it is, in the heat of battle, I cannot use this fature becasue I lose too much time getting back to the view I had before.
  12. What a pompous pack of racist nonesense! Your comments are quite simply disgusting, and your half-hearted appology is even worse. If you do not have the ability to consider the impact of your words befroe you utter them, then you have no business postting to a forum like this with a wide multinational readership.
  13. Mario, check out the tech support forum, and you will find more info on freezes. Personally, I foudn that turning off the music and turning off shadows eliminated the problem for me.
  14. "With the background of both 1C and us, there should be no question about continued support. Of course the first focus lies on fixing up some of the people that have problems getting it to run, and then we'll take a look into the future Martin" "fixing up some of the people..." ??? I think I know what you mean, but that sounds a little frightening if you read it literally. Does this involve FBI wedgies?
  15. I know this is only the first full day after release, but I think it would be helpful to have a separate forum exclusively for the discussion of strategy & tactics. Also, down the road, perahps we could have one more dedicated to mission design. [ April 20, 2007, 11:51 AM: Message edited by: Avwriter ]
  16. JUst out of curiosity, what resolution are you guys running the game on, and is it different from the resolution you runn on Windows? When my game froze, I noticed that may resolution in windows had changed to that which I was running in TOW, and I wonder if that might have something to do with it.
  17. I would presume that the mission editor allows the setting of a variety of victory conditions, though I have not tried it myself.
  18. Just wondering since there is not yet a "downloads" section.
  19. I sincecerly mean no disrespect, as I take none from your own comments. However, step back and read what you just wrote, John. Are you not yourself doing the same thing you criticise the "mature understanding folk" for doing? I.e. sitting back and passing judgement on others with an attitude of superiority? At the end of the day, both sides of the issue you are addressing come down to human nature: the way our brains work, and the way in which we are genetically programmed to interact. It is very easy to say that history repeats itself, and that we should learn from our mistakes. However, the fact that history does repeat itself so often implies that we cannot, in fact, change our nature to any serious degree. I am not suggesting that we give up on improving ourselves, but rather that it is unrealistic to expect people to stop acting like people.
  20. By the way, after entering first person view (click + Enter), how do you switch back to normal view?
  21. I have to say, it seems they totally forgot to cover controlling the camera in the manual. They discussed the camera settings and options, but no discussion at all of actually using the camera when n battle. This results in a rather awkward trial and error process.
  22. Yes, we are a resourceful bunch arn't we?
