  1. That should be a banable offense! This group is not so young. You could give someone a heart attack.
  2. Perhaps they will surprise us and deliver the hard copies first, by droping them out of Heinkel 111s over our homes. Maybe that's what the clunk I heard on my roof a few minutes ago was. Silly me. I thought it was just a squirrel.
  3. As I have said before, early download was a MAJOR incentive for preordering. As such they do have a certian responsibility to be more up front. We are now less than 48 hours form the official release date. This is well within the timeframe Moon mentioned on Friday. At the very least they could give us a little news.
  4. If you did your homework, you would know that what we are getting is a dramatically improved version of the release. As I understand it, 1C did a huge amount of work at the request of BFC in exchange for their agreement to publish it. By all acounts, we are getting a much more polished a fully-featured game than what was released in Russia last fall.
  5. Moon has been noticably absent today. One must wonder what is going on over there.
  6. I have to wonder at whatpoint the forum will crash from the mass refreshing? Isn't that alwasy a part of the tradition of the release of any really good game?
  7. Not in the short term. It's just not the focus of the game, and since there are no dense urban areas, buildings would be of limited use anyhow. Furthermore, I dare say that unless the buildings were transparent, it would be kind of tedious to manage troops that are both inside and outside of buldings.
  8. It is reasonable that they are not announcing the exact time. They probably want to prevent the servers from being hit by everyone at the exact same time. Of course the news will spread fast, but by carefully choosing the time, and by not announcing it in advance, they can have a gradual escalation of activity. Logically, one might deduce that the release is more likely to take palce during the work day or late at night, rather than in the evening.
  9. Here we go again... Perhaps we could put an end to these repeated questions by changing the name of the game from "Theater of War" to "WWII - Outside the Damn Buildings!" [ April 17, 2007, 06:47 AM: Message edited by: Avwriter ]
  10. late tommorow would be pointless. Even MadMatt mentioned at one point that releasing it a few hours in advance "wouldn't do anyone any good." Unless they are haveing technical problems getting it up, then I think this evening or early tomorrow morning would be the most likely scenario.
  11. I am sure they will not tell us, but how do you guys imagine that the first few of us will learn that D-Day (Download Day) is here? A. We all will get a simultaneous email at the precise moment that the download link goes live. B. The link will go active "silently," several minutes or even an hour or more before the mass email goes out. One of us will discover this, and download it for himself before announcing their discovery here. C. Moon will post here in the forum that release is iminent sometime during the day or early evening, and then drag it out for hours before finally openning the floodgates around three in the morning. 12. I seriously doubt it. That is simply not done in the software industry. When the demo comes out, just try it and see if it works.
  13. I was curious about this also, since the FAQ over in the Russian forum (I read a little Russian) clearly states that both day and night exist in the game. Night is also included in Il-2, so I do not see why it could not be done here.
  14. I hope we will eventually see the something akin to the Uberquick Mission Generator for Il-2.
  15. Speaking of manuals, what is the quality of the physical manual? I.e. glued spine or spiral bound, color or black & white, glossy or flat paper? Can you open it flat on a table and have it stay on the smae page? Not a big deal, but as I have never had a BFC product before, I'm just curious about what to expect?
  16. To me, personally, waiting a few more days is not a big a deal. I am not upset about it. However, I do feel that it would have been in better taste if, from the beginning, BFC had CLEARLY stated how much earlier pre-order customers would get to download it. Let's face it. Early download was a MAJOR selling point of the pre-order offer, and for many, it was of equal or greater importance than the discount. I think we all understood that there were no guarantees, but by remaining deliberately vague on this point until most of the preorders were in, BFC left lots of room for people to build up false hopes, and end up feeling disappointed. That's not good for anyone. All this could have been avoided if they had stated on the preorder page of the website, that the early download would be available no more than 1-2 days in advance. Then there would have been no room for questions. It might have cost BFC a handfull of preorders, but everyone would have known exactly what they were getting in exchange for paying early.
  17. Did anyone else notice the dead livestock in that clip(okay I guess that was a contradiction in terms)? Now I'm curious if the animals are animated when they are alive, and if so, how good is their AI? Can you imagine the fun that the occasional angry bull or deranged rooster could add to a raging multiplayer battle? But wait...what's that? Do I smell an add-on coming? Presenting the official "Theater of War -Freaked Out Farm Animals Expansion Pack." I hear that if you preorder, they will throw in a heard of MNAGs (Mutant Nazi Attack Goats) at no extra chrarge!
  18. Thanks for coming forward and letting us know. I'm a new customer here, and really did not know what to expect.
  19. Well, they have not closed out preorders yet. Just checked. I suppose that is a good sign that pre-release is not imminent. I assume that they will do that before starting the pre-release. Otherwise it would not be a preorder, and would be unfair to those of us who paid out money in advance. If they are really scrambling (testing their installer, servers, etc), they may not even know themselves yet. Would be nice though if they could simply let us know if it will be over the weekend or not. That way we could go ahead and make other plans. [ April 13, 2007, 09:59 AM: Message edited by: Avwriter ]
  20. Battlefront, use your power wisely and make Friday the 13th a lucky day! Well, at least for for those of us who preordered
  21. Expanded options for aviation. I realize this is not Il-2, but I think it would be nice to be able to schedule fighter patrols in the mission editor, rather than just having them come in from nowhere when airstrikes are called. It would also be cool to have planes deploy paratroopers, and perhaps even drop off supplies under certain conditions. [ April 12, 2007, 05:17 AM: Message edited by: Avwriter ]
  22. Interasting. Thanks for enlightening me. Had no idea. I just figured there were faster industrial grade burners or somehting for that. Oh well, you learn something new every day. Anyway, as long you are hanging around here, how about very quietly opening that download link for a little while? I promise we won't tell
  23. Anyone here try that game? How is it?
  24. ""Gold" means that we have the release code "frozen", from which all the CDs will be duplicated. As far as I know the term originates from the fact that the master CD which is used as the base for replication is usually made of gold (it needs to withstand higher tear than a regular CD to be duplicated many thousand times or something like that). What remains now is to do all the behind the scenes stuff to get it replicated, packaged up and prepared for mail delivery, while on the other end we're preparing and testing the download servers etc. This takes more time than you can imagine, especially due to the large file size. Martin" Would you really use a CD/DVD master for duplication purposes? Wouldn't it be more straight forward, and faster to duplicate directly off the hard drive of a PC? I thoguht that the term "gold" went back to the record industry and the days of vinal LPs. Back then, I believe there realy was a gold plated LP used as the master. However, I could be mistaken.
  25. I'm 38 and am mostly into flightsims, both military and civilian. Thus, this will be a diversion of sorts for me, but since Oleg Maddox was involved I just couldn't resist.
