  1. Back to my question. If you can give me an answer, you will have my order tonight. Could you give us at least a ballpark idea of how much earlier preorder customers will get to download the product? I understand that you cannot set it in stone at this point, but I just want to know if you generaly expect it to be a. several hours early b. a few days early c. more than a week early To me personally this information is tied directly to the value of preordering, and I would like to know before I plunk down my money.

  3. Why still no announcement on the website?
  4. That's the entire point.
  5. Has anyone tried Making History: The Calm and the Storm? I think it just came out a cople of weeks ago, but the demo has been out for a while. Very pretty interface compared with Strategic Command 2. Ihavent gotten in deeply enough to really compare them ,b ut it looks to be fairly rich in detail.
  6. This is just my humble opinion, but you should try asigning time slots to coustomers basedon when they preorder. For example, allow the first 100 or so download five days early, the second 100 gets to download four days early, and so on. By giving each group its own 24-hour time slot, the servers won't get too overloaded.
  7. Being new to Battlefront I'm currently entertaining myself with the demos of all their other games. Currently I'm trying out the demo of Strategic Command 2. Based on what I've seen I'd happily buy it if TOW didn't look so darned irrisistable. I figure I woud't have time to play both games anyway since they both appear to be so absorbing.
  8. I have been trying out the demo, and I was wondering if there is a way to make this game run in a window. It would be nice to be able to switch to other applications between moves.
  9. Actually, having never purchased a Battlefornt game before, I have a couple of questions about how it works. 1. Is it permitted to install your games on two computers (desktop + laptop)? 2. How is the printed manual bound?
  10. Look at it this way. If you preorder, you get both versions for the price of one. That's the deal. He mentioned this in another thread last week.
  11. Congratulations. It must have been a good feeling for you to post this announcement that so many have been waiting for. For those who preorder, is there any chance of getting the downloadable version a little early?
  12. Sorry, never mind. I just saw your post in the other thread
  13. Thanks Martin. What are you hearing from the coders regarding the current delay? Are we talking days, weeks, or months here? I understand that all you can do is make an educated guess, but even a guess is better than nothing.
  14. I wonder if graphics settings might have anything to to with it? Obviously the more trees you stick out there the more its going to bog down the computer runing it. Take the latest version of Microsoft FLight Simulater (FSX). IF you max out all the settings you can have some very realistic-looking forrest, but not many current-gen computers can run FSX with decent frame rates with those settings.
  15. I was just browsing the Russian forum and noticed that they have an FAQ. For those who speak the language, you can find it here: http://forums.games.1c.ru/?type=thread&msgid=806898 It actually answered my question about the progression of time/daylight/the seasons in some detail: It says that transistions from day to night are in the game, including attractively rendered sunrises and sunsets. It also confirms that all four seasons are represented.
  16. That's a shame about the cities. In Il-2 they did such a good job with the cities, especially Leningrad. I was hoping they might have carried that over into this game. Of course, no doubt that would require a lot more CPU/GPU power, but still...
  17. I concur. Delays are simply the nature of the software industry. The developers/publishers are merely being prudent by not promising a specific release date before they are ready. People may whine when a title is delayed, but the very same people will be the first to whine even more if the game is released in a poor state. Moreover, their decision not to accept preorders shows that they respect their customers. I have seen games for which preorders were accpeted and then the product was delayed for weeks or even months. That is a nightmare for all sides involved, and I am glad to see that Battlefront does not engague in such practices. As for the question of releasing the single player alone, I seriously doubt it is that simple. If the game was not designed to be modular to begin with, then you can't just rip out a portion of it and expect that portion to work by itself.
  18. Greetings. I am new to the forum and come to TOW after beign a veteran of Il-2 for many years. I understand that TOW makes use of the Il-2 engine, and I eagerly look forward to seeing TOW in action when it is released. However, in the meantime I do have a few questions: 1. How are air units handled in TOW? I have seen air attacks in the videos, but I was curious about how much control the player has over them? Can you call in airstrikes on individual positions? Will aircraft of opposing sides fight each other in the air above the ground units? 2. I see that TOW has some new features and improvements over the original Russian version of the game. Just out of curiosity, will these improvements be made available to owners of the Russian version, or is this a Battlefront exclusive. Also, will TOW be compatible with the Russian version online? 3. I understand that the game takes place in real time. Does this mean that morning, day, evening, and night will also take place in real time? What about the seasons of the year? 4. Obviously, the game transpires over a wide geographic area (Europe and Russia). Is the geography integrated onto a single map? For example, can soldiers/vehicles travel in real time from Russia all the way to Berlin? 5. Will major cities (Paris, Berlin, Leningrad, Stalingrad) be depicted in detail? IF so, in how much detail? I have yet to see any screenshots from urban areas. 6. Is the game design open-ended in such a way that future expansions might be added by the developer or by users?
