  1. AFAIK the people with the most issues are the Windows people. Perhaps the Linux is the smoothest, however.
  2. aittam, I would prefer 98% or higher, thanks.
  3. Enough with Christmas, back to the virtual battlefield! I will be back in action this Sunday at 3pm EST (you do the time math), hopefully for an extended session, with lots of players on each side. So, calling all DT players: LET'S FIGHT! Hope to see you there...
  4. I have encountered this invincible unit phenomenon a few times as well - usually it is a turret, but occasionally it is vehicle. Frustrating indeed.
  5. Let's not forget about the later game (Dead Gulch I think), where Nexus and I managed to capture and/or destroy all of jby and Imperial Grunt's facilities. I kind of enjoyed that one.
  6. I will be a bit late joining today (maybe an hour?) but I still intend to mix it up a bit today.
  7. This seems to be common complaint recently.
  8. House to House w just mercs, cutters and Inf sounds very cool to me.
  9. Hey guys. I'm back. There was an unexpected death in the family last weekend, so needless to say playing games was a no go for me. Things are a little better now so I'm looking to get back to kicking some butt again. I'm glad that people seem to dropping in on Sunday's still. I'm planning on being there next week. I think we should also finalize some teams and have a real showdown again .... you know for DT Universal Domination and all that. I think this would work best if we could set a specific time and date other than Sunday, so as not to interfere with the regular Sunday random team games. Any thoughts?
  10. I'd be willing to make the jump across the ocean (virtually that is) to play on occasion, since you guys have been doing it for awhile now. I generally play where the players are. I also make a point of it during the week to have a look when I get home from work to see if any Europeans are still on as well, many of who I enjoyed playing with in the summer. I don't know what it is but the they just seem so much more cultured than the average player....hehe
  11. Sensor jammers can be used to gradually create a safe corridor against the cobra missile towers and launchers, but are much harder to land, and therefore use, against the point defense style of AA.
  12. Yeah, that is the one danger of using bot mortars: they will drop shells in your base if the enemy is present and friendly Hermes will do nothing to stop it. That's why I primarily use this tactic for offensive operations. The sensors are still very necessary on the defense though.
  13. I've got to agree with jby about the lag I experienced on Sunday. It was definitely taking away from the game in a big way. In the past I've had problems with specific maps (usually the larger ones). This Sunday, other than the ice map and one other map, the game was virtually unplayable for me. This problem seems to be getting worse, or is that just me?
  14. Yeah, I agree on the postponing the battle for now. I'll still be on today at the regular time, barring unforeseen happenstance. Saturday or Sunday work for me, but it has to be one or the other. I need at least one day on the weekend not focussed on playing games. If given the choice I would prefer to keep Saturday free, as there is generally more s**t going on on Saturday. How about earlier Sunday, therefore it wouldn't be so late for the Europeans.
  15. What about you Imperial Grunt? You stated an interest in forming some sort of teams: if you can make it tomorrow how about siding with the Epsilon Eridani Gas Giants? I can vouch for jby's craftiness as a teammate, so you need not worry in that department. As it is we really only have enough players to form one solid team. Perhaps jby's right about forming an alliance and kicking some combined butt. Anyway, we can always wait and see what develops come battle time.
  16. What I meant by a bot in a Mercury helping with target acquisition is this: if you field several bot mortars they can tend to pound the one or two red dots on the screen, but if you have sensors they will be far more accurate, while spreading their fire over the battlefield. By maintaining a mercury on the field you have the added bonus of sharing sightings any of your units might make. By having a vehicle on the field you can take control of at anytime to provide additional fire (artillery) support or call down more deployables is always handy too.
  17. One thing that I think cannot be overstated is the usefulness of sensors, jammed of course, spread throughout the battlefield with either a player, in a command role perhaps, or a bot manning a mercury. Coordination begins with knowledge of where the enemy is. This is especially useful if you want to use bots in a mortar capacity - the mercury accompanied by the sensors helps target acquisition tremendously.
  18. So, I guess so far we have: EEGG: Jalinth and jby VS Rbentus: Iceman and Jung Anyone else interested in chiming in and putting your 120mm shells where your mouth is, feel free and sign up today!
  19. Remember EEGG-heads, the vaporized don't get to enjoy the spoils of war!
  20. BTW, unless I'm mistaken, the inventor of time zones was Sir Sanford Fleming from Canada.
  21. Geez jby, here I was thinking you were a loyal member of the Upstarts, instead you've been planning rebellion all along! I'm not so sure I would have been so bold in my praise of the Upstarts if I had known we could no longer call on your skills. What's next?!?Nexus' New-World Raiders? Phantom's Fabulous Five? Smeltz Belts? Stonewall's Stone-Age Brawlers? I guess that brings me to what I see as the major stumbling block towards forming semi-permanent teams: trying to figure out who to team-up with. It seems basic, but to help illustrate my point: I don't even know who the Upstarts are, despite the fact that I'm challenging people to fight us, whoever WE are. Like Toby suggest, we need some type of system for making teams balanced, otherwise the game loses its appeal if you should be on the losing team all the time (same could be said if one is always winning I guess)
  22. I agree with Imperial Grunt on the topic of the need for some sort of standardized teams; the Upstarts VS Devs challenge was done with this in mind. However, getting some type of consistent teams organized takes some effort on our part. There also has to be a large enough desire amongst our fellow gamers to make it feasible. Do we want to evolve? I personally do. So far the only real team to come together in answer to a call to arms has been the Upstarts....unless we include the long since vanquished Dev menace of course. I can't help but wonder if there is a team out there who could withstand the combined onslaught of the Upstarts..... Anyway, I once declared allegiance to the Live Ship Rbentus, but Admiral Iceman seems to have become slightly unpredictable in regards to arriving for battles and such. Therefore forcing me to question my allegiance to his cause - sorry Iceman, but it's true. So, In a further effort to complicate things, I hereby challenge ANYONE out there to recruit a team to do battle with the Upstarts. Once again, on the line, ultimate bragging rights in the DropTeam Universe! If that doesn't work we could always form teams based on alphabetical order....or birthdays.....or height....or.....any ideas?
  23. The defenders were, without a doubt, very creative with their placement of turrets during this battle. However, I do have to agree with Nexus about the scoring. I recall spending an extended period of time on the objective (along with at least a couple of other bots and players) with no enemy even nearby, yet the score remained in the defenders favour for many minutes. Either way though, it was an intense battle thåt was well fought by both sides. I was glad to see so many people out yesterday despite the fact that there was no reminder on the forum leading up to it. There are some good battles throughout the week, but the Sunday battles are definitely the ones I get most excited for. Good job folks.
  24. Just a little reminder that Sunday afternoon/evening is fast approaching. I hope everyone has a good rest, tucked away in their sleeping pods, in preparation for tomorrow's drop!
