  1. Big up Creature Zoo and Poesel for being so damn cool. Alrighty, I guess my vote for rolling hills wasn't the best idea. The reasons I wanted to see this scenario were that I thought it had some nice flag areas to fight over, lots of opportunity for hull down postions and, once again, it has some pretty colours. However, I think we can all agree that the number of trees is making this a very laggy map and it takes some of us quite awhile to load. Soooo, I guess we should take it out of rotation. For now I'm still enjoying Twin Peaks and The Dam, but does anyone else have any maps they would like to see included? How about Unexpected Reserves? Maybe we could fight over the bridge, or we could just go with the ctf - it does have a nice mix of buildings, wide open areas, hills and water action as well.
  2. Yeah, I've installed the DDS textures. The long load time only seems to be a real issue on Creature Zoo for me. I haven't played single player in so long I couldn't tell you if it takes me a long time to load or not. I am using a machine which is just barely acceptable according to the game specs.
  3. That was a good time yesterday. All in all things were fairly even, and I guess I should be happy with how the games unfolded. Unfortunately the whole experienced was marred for me by the final minutes on Twin Peaks. Chaos/Grunt managed to get a Thor onto the objective and thereby reverse Water's earlier dismal performance on the same map and even up the day's total to two victories per side. I prefer to win. Oh yeah, next time I want to attack...did I happen to mention that? One thing I think should be noted about yesterday's games, for whatever reason (ping I imagine-but I don't think I have the worse connection by any means) it was taking me a long time to join the games and I often missed the entire deployment phase, which is fairly essential when defending. Is anyone else taking a really long time to join Creature Zoo? If so would it be possible to add a tiny bit more time to the deployment phase?
  4. First off, I must say I'm impressed with most of the improvements that came with V1.2.5, so this is not really just a complaint. Now for the complaining: the bots shoot down dropships way too easily! Yesterday at one point I was shot down by the same long distance bot three times in a row, while I attempted to land in three different locations. I wasn't even dropping in the same spot and this bot about half way across the map shot me down with HEAT each time. Now I'm a pretty good shot in the game and I can only hit dropships with HEAT one out every 10 or 15 tries. So for a bot to do it three times in a row is a bit unacceptable. While I'm ranting, I also think dropships and vipers should be a little better armoured in terms of taking fire from ions – it seems silly watching ship after ship get shot down by ions - not that I haven't employed this tactic myself, but right now we seem to be running out of dropships with too much regularity.
  5. Garand, you should probably just disregard the above post. Everybody else who frequents this forum has a positive view of the game and we, for the most part, tend to ignore the occasional outburst from the dark whatever. Personally I prefer the light anyway.

I don't know why I didn't realize this last night, but in both situations it was at the start of Low Dunes. If we are lucky maybe the issue is limited to that scenario.

On Sunday at one point on Ascension the game stopped working for me and my ping climbed to very high level, forcing me to switch servers to keep playing. This happened to most, if not all the players. Just now on Delta Pavonis the same thing happened to me: game got really sticky, then I couldn't input anything (even disconnect), afterwards the ping level was way too high to rejoin. In both cases it was right at the start of a game.
  9. If by meet up you mean go to a pub, I'd be up for it. When are you in town aittam? I do spend about a month each summer in Newfoundland, but you never know.
  10. Well, I don't know about where you guys might be living, but the weather here in Toronto has been fabulous the last few days. I've been outside working in the garden most of the weekend and, honestly, the beer has been going down like water. Anyway, I digress, what I'm trying to say is I hope you've all been busy doing whatever needs doing around the house and are ready for battle this afternoon/evening. Despite the beauty weather outside I'm spoiling for a good battle, so hope to see you there. Oh yeah, if I should happen to lose later I blame the beer....gotta love a built in excuse before the games have even begun!
  11. Hey Poesel, on the topic of potential maps for Creature Zoo, I wouldn't mind seeing Rolling Hills as CTF - never been in rotation from what I remember and it's kinda of nice sunset, with the added advantage of lots of nasty spots to hide in ambush etc. Also I wouldn't mind seeing Twin Peaks (objective) again, just because I like the various lines of sight - oh yeah, and it also has pretty colours too....or at least colours that blow-up real pretty like. One more thought: I'd also like to see very limited number of mines available and an increased number of dragon's teeth - especially if they are going to be smaller. Too many games have become stuck in a quagmire due to the ringing of flags or objectives in mines. Oh yeah, and again on the aesthetic side, dragon's teeth are far prettier than mines and look smashing on both the battlefield or the backyard lawn
  12. Looking forward to seeing down the barrel of my 120mm Whiteowl. Welcome aboard.
  13. So that's what was going on...it didn't occur to me that there was an engineer sitting inside the building the whole time.
  14. Hey Poesel, any chance we could get Raid on Creature Zoo for a bit? I'm feeling a little nostalgia for the pre-release days of the game. Also, I can't help but think it would be a good map to try out the Ariel and some of the other new toys.

    Koodos to Jung!

No problemo, glad I could help.

From what I can tell Yurch gave us the Bacchus before riding off into the sunset...that's the last thing I really remember from him.
  17. Yeah, the mines were all placed before we decided on our overall strategy - originally I meant do engage you further out from the flag and didn't place any mines near the flag for fear of bots driving over them. The real turning point of the game was when one of your bots w atgm shot down several of our bots attempting to land near the flag, leaving us with no dropships to do anything. By then it was all just desperation anyway.
  18. I was thinking the same thing while playing the Low Dunes map recently jby. It is without a doubt harder to defend the northern flag. The flag is in the open compared to against a giant rock in the south part of the map; on top of that it is also near the middle of the map, as opposed to in a corner, making it much easier to land behind the main defenders with two possible flanks to choose from. Anyway, no excuses. We shouldn't have lost so badly. Before the battle started I pretty much knew Nexus would take a paladin from the west and repeatedly try to take our flag around the bottom of the map, where you guys had most likely left a break in your mines - which if I'm right, is exactly what happened. Knowing in advance, with some certainty, what you guys would do, we should have been able to come up with some type of effective counter. This game was a perfect example of taking things too casually against skilled opponents. I wish I could pretend I didn't really care about losing....but by know I think you would all know I was lying.
  19. For me its something like DP 40ms and CZ 140ms.
  20. I'm willing to play on either server, but I'm not sure if people on the west coast of North America are able to get a suitable ping on Creature Zoo. Delta Pavonis is more in between all potential players, being in eastern U.S. (I think) and I'm not just saying that because I have a very low ping playing on DP...but it helps. In the end I'll play where the majority sides.
  21. Dummy vehicles...but we already have bots! Haha!
  22. I'm not sure if I will be able to make the games to today, if I do I'll be late. However, I think we need some consensus as to whether we should spend Sundays testing new weapons on Creature Zoo or fighting serious battles on Delta Pavonis. I'm all for new weapons on Creature Zoo - the only problem is it does make for some unbalanced game play. For example: the increased number of Thors makes the job of wearing down the defenders numbers through attrition all the more important, thereby forcing the attacker to rely on some of the more tried and true tactics to get the job done in the required time. Just a thought. The second bit is probably more appropriate in the Creature Zoo thread, but whatever.
  23. Great pic jby - great weapons Poesel - everyone get on Creature Zoo today!

    Creature Zoo

I was just giving everything a quick spin and must say you've done some nice work Poesel. One quick question - what is the rate of fire on the Nebelwerfer. I tried it twice and loved the rocket effect, but on both occasion I subsequently got killed before getting off a second shot. Love the new Tempest, but I have to agree, to get this vehicle back into game play a 90mm gun would really help. The larger firepower would be offset by the fact that the Tempest is basically a one shot kill in most circumstances. As it is, the only real uses for a 76mm are rear motor shots, turret clearing, and quick disarming of smaller enemies with shots at the weapons systems.
