    Creature Zoo

Disregard the above message. After further examination I realized I placed the files in the demo version of the game I still have sitting beside the actual game. Ooops. All is good now.

    Creature Zoo

Any idea why Creature Zoo might not be appearing in my mods directory? I've unzipped the files in the mods directory and verified that they are there, but nothing other than Base is available in the mods options.
  3. I would like to share a little story about a big battle I desperately wanted to win....but lost. Today I squared off with ThePhantom on the Sea Cliffs map - Poesel joined later, but I'll get to that in a bit. ThePhantom has been a real bur in my side/ego lately. I guess I consider myself pretty good at this little game of ours, based mostly on the fact that few players have been able to beat me 1 on 1 with any regularity, except perhaps Nexus6 and jby. In the last couple of weeks ThePhantom has humbled me a few times (have you been taking vid game steroids or something?), and let's just say I've been spoiling for a rematch. I was determined to hit him with something new; I was Water so on the attack. I went with a long distance, well supported Ion battery to wear down and frazzle the enemy. I must say the plan was working beautifully and confidence was high! After a sufficient Ion scorching and some precision turret removal I began the advance. Things still going well - combined arms pushing forward - me happy!!! Just as the first wave of my little party/advance was cresting on the objective the enemy was aided by the DT gods in the form of Poesel joining Blood right around the same time I, HORROR OF HORRORS, crashed and had to rejoin the game. After 2 stressful minutes I was able to rejoin the battle to find my little bot buddies to still be within striking distance of the objective. Time to bear down and play for real. "Take this game, it's your's," I tell myself. After a few more minutes I have actually managed to wrestle the research station from the enemy and I am feeling pretty good again...perhaps too good. Flushed with what looks like victory to me at the time, I decide to unleash some childish smack-talk. So as I'm typing some crap about having lots of thors left for the end, yada-yada, I can't help but notice that the enemy is massing to the north and my thors are all facing south. So, do I stop typing my smack-talk message and react to the threat....OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By the time I have hit return the disaster has already begun to unfold. The next thing to go after my precious thors was my cool, and the last 2 minutes of the battle degenerated into several ill-advised charges, usually ending with Poesel or ThePhantom blasting me. Everytime I died I knew it was because I had once again cursed myself with my tongue (or fingers in this case). Have I learned my lesson? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yeah, at least until next time I'm flushed with what appears like victory to me at the time. Seriously though, good battles Phantom - maybe we should team up sometime soon and I can smack-talk us up some opponents.

    things I like

From what I remember jby, I've usually been able to make out what you say. However, for some reason we often seem to be on opposite teams, so I can't see for sure. Check it out in game sometime soon.
  5. I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who knew how to find out how much time was remaining while in the network window.

Why don't we just speak in German? Just kidding.

    things I like

That's amazing Nexus, because getting shot is my fav part of the game! Seriously, I would have to say the interaction between players (as in communications) is one of the things I like most: be it serious teamwork, silly comments/jokes, or (like yesterday) mindless smack-talk. I do like winning too....but *hurumph* I guess it's not everything.
  8. I've had the same problem on numerous occasions, especially when trying to get several mortars to attack (fire) at once. I find giving groups of bots orders to be a great concept but not always very effective. I'm constantly having to go back and give individual orders to get them moving again - which isn't cool in the heat of battle. It can be disastrous if you should move elsewhere on the map and not notice that the bots are ignoring orders and having their own little picnic off to the side.
  9. I'm also getting the white spots on the tac map Iceman speaks of. I'm running on a Mac, how about you Iceman? I asked some other players in game if they were experiencing the same phenomenon, but they all said no, so obviously this is not happening to all users. Personally I find the white spots to be more useful than the old red ones because they are darn easy to see. The only problem is that flags also look like shots people have fired, but smaller.
  10. Yeah poesel, your 71 on the end of your name is a bit of a give away.
  11. I'm clocking in at a spritely 35 as well there Nexus, but I've got 2 months on ya. Hmmm, no wonder we seem to be so evenly matched in terms of gameplay. Oh yeah, if this is still about the V 1.2.2, me be liking it.
  12. And you thought I was going to let this thread die... AAR anyone? I'm feeling too lazy (or something similar) to do so at the moment.
  13. It was good to see lots of players for an extended period of time today. I wasn't able to play every game, but I much enjoyed the games I did take part in. Being able to play with a decent number of people without major slow-downs was nice.

    Updates

    Collective sigh of relief.
  15. jby - today's little skirmish was a nice appetizer for tomorrow's action. I hope to be available by 3 or 4pm EST, so for something like 9 or 10pm GMT+1. There is a chance I might have had a drink or two before game time, so feel free to do the same, to keep things on an even keel and all.... . . . . . . . . . . . ...only if that is your sort of thing of course. If anyone else out there might be free tomorrow afternoon/night - depending on time-zones obviously - feel free to join us for some fun.
  16. I just might "drop-in" jby - if so it would be near the end of the time you stated.
  17. My two cents: DropTeam has a heavy emphasis on teamwork and in game communication. A team that works together will always defeat a group of individuals. The vehicle selection and game structure allow for a huge array of options: one can play an up-front combat role or one of the support/command roles. Due to this, games with two or more people on each team seldom play-out the same way. DropTeam does have it's issues - the latest update is a little buggy for one, but the developers have been, for the most part, very hands on in addressing bugs and communicating with the gaming community in regards to improving the game. Personally, I love the game. It is a little hard to slot in any one category, which is one of the reasons it has thus far not caught on in a big way. But, according to what you are say you are looking for, Risasi, DropTeam might be the just the right fit. Now, how it plays over a Lan connection, I have no idea.
  18. Death Gulch was definitely one of the more intense battles I've played. After dueling back and forth for awhile the map had been reduced to 4/6 facilities. As soon as we realized Nexus was on his way to reducing another of our towers it was clear we needed to use that time to capture 1 of Water's 2 intact towers. The last few minutes of the game were spent desperately trying to hold onto what we had just gained, and involved some fine carnage, if that is your sort of thing. Nexus: the sensor may or may not have helped Water detect the 3 cutters we sent at your southern tower, as they were supported by a hermes escort. It should also be noted that for much of the gaming on Sunday Blood outnumbered Water, which does throw the balance off.
  19. We had some great battles yesterday, unfortunately it is too early in the morning to go into much detail. I should mention that Phonan and Aittam proved to be very good teammates, and I look forward to working with you guys again soon.
  20. I'm usually on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I play for about 1 hour most nights, and usually sometime between 7 and 9 PM EST. No surprises there.
  21. Well guys, I know we have had a lot of problems with connectivity lately, but today is Sunday. I'm hoping most of you regulars will be able to make today's battles. Poesel - your threat tables are very nice and useful and all, but if you rather spend another Sunday night playing with data tables instead of blasting people on distant planets, we're going have some issues. (hehe) See you there.

    Brakes

Stopping on a hill, that's crazy talk! God forbid a vehicle be a able to suspend itself on the slightest of inclines. Then you could do all kinds of improbable things....like aim the freaking gun!
  23. Also, if you are patient and keep checking the servers you will find that there are some very dedicated players/regulars lurking out there. If you live in North America I would check in the evenings as there are usually at least a few of us playing on any given evening. Fear not 8ball, you are not alone!
  24. The numbers were low, but the calibre of play was quite high. Other than the one on one game with Poesel, for the first time in recent memory I was on the losing side in every game - that was different. Kudos definitely go to jby, aittaMM, and IG. Looking back on the games a few mistakes were made which turned out to be rather unfortunate - accidentally crashing all the Hermes at the start of a game without realizing it before too late and ignoring enemy infantry hidden near the objective both stand out. For whatever reason my reaction time and aim both seemed to suck for much of yesterday (sorry Poesel, I only was really on firing on all cylinders before we teamed up), and with the aforementioned foes one doesn't have a lot of room for error. For what it is worth I experienced very little lag during yesterday's games; only having 5 players could have something to do with it. While I'm on the topic of lag I would like to suggest we avoid using the smoke options for now. I'm sure most of you have noticed how this adversely effects the frame rate. The combination of smoke and one of the larger maps often stutters the game to the point of being unplayable.
