  1. It wasn't distance, it was the arc. I wanted to face toward where I thought the threat would come from and focus the turret in that direction (sort of a shoot and scoot set up.) However the Churchills appeared outside the arc and my veteran SS crew sat their saying, "but our orders are to only watch this area". My mistake, I should have used face and given them more flexibility. Not used to working with elite guys. My last big battle was with a bunch of worn out beat up Landser. You really need to understand your units to know which command it going to have what impact.
  2. Battle for Stonne!! Woohoo!! I would buy it just to fight that one.
  3. Well I ended up taking multiple rounds from a pair of Churchills while my Tiger sat there with a covered arc that just missed including them. The better your unit, the more you have to worry about whether you want a covered arc or face command (I should have used face). An armored covered arc would have had the same effect.
  4. I have been burned on covered arcs as well. Just ask JonS. They will not be the once size fits all fix I think their lack seems to make us feel (though that doesn't stop me from wanting an armored covered arc).
  5. Could happen, they could also have been immobilized. If you remember waayyyyyy back a lifetime ago prior to CMBN release they did an AAR of Bois de Baugin. In that one a crew bailed from a perfectly healthy Sherman as I recall. Cool thing was the crew was able to get their act together and reboard. If the terrain had not been a wheatfield I expect that crew would have been dead.
  6. Let's face it - you like it just as much as everyone else. That is why you are still reading this thread. You are just having problems sharing your feelings, but don't worry I'll keep your secret ... ssshhhhhh.
  7. Hell most Americans don't speak English properly. With a little humility I have found most folks are more than willing to help you figure out what is good. It gives them a chance to show off what is good about their culture. It is also a great time to flirt. ;-) I once had a French girl mess with me by insisting I pronounce "schedule" correctly in order to buy a train ticket, pretty cute. It is a memory that is quite old now and yet I will never forget it. This morning the guy at the bar made my wife an absolutely beautiful cappuccino, friggin work of art. I travel a lot (I usually have to get pages added to my passport. I've had this one less than 3 years and am already considering doing so) and I have to say if you walk in with interest and an open mind most people seem more than happy to take the time with you and maybe help you try something new. Life is too short to worry about being embarrassed.
  8. I am just waiting for the next reality TV show. "Desperate Platoon Leaders- The show follows the lives of a group of Marines, seen through the eyes of their dead neighbor. They work through domestic struggles and family life, while facing the secrets, crimes and mysteries hidden behind the doors of their Quonset huts.." Okay yeah I edited the description for Desperate Housewives, but it's all the same formula
  9. W/O a replay it is impossible to say, but I certainly would not rule it out 100% as we do not know the sequence. Perhaps your crew bailed after taking a gun hit and panicked. That appears to be 75% of your crew lying next to it.
  10. +1 found this one in a used bookstore and wasn't sure what kind of read it would be. Turned out to be outstanding.
  11. Man I hear that. 10 minutes of content, 20 minutes of recap and 30 minutes of commercials.
  12. I don't think it is edge creep he is referring to. In my experience he didn't really come all that close to the map edge. I think what he is thinking of is more some interdicting fire that would actually have hit his units further back for example in Shadow if the Hill 8:30am (not sure if that is the PBEM he is referring to). As it was he could move units around back there completely unhindered. As could I for the most part on my side.
  13. Well I know you don't mean Mark Zuckerberg. They had a news clip on him, apparently he is on honeymoon here and ate at.... yes - McDonalds. WTF?! All that money, you are in Rome and you eat at a crappy american fast food burger joint? Hi honey we are on honeymoon in Rome and I found this wonderful intimate little POS place to eat.... just to show how much I think of you. Maybe he's decided to go frugal considering the stock is plummeting.
  14. Angry birds will be imported into CM as the air support/AA model.
  15. Who said he was sane? Think about the task he keeps taking on, does that sound like a sane person to you?
  16. I don't know, if I get as big as some of those guys I think you develop new places to conceal weapons....
  17. or do like the boys in the sopranos did- wear track suits that are nice and stretchy
  18. I believe it. I could get really used to this. Weather in Rome right now is incredible and evey now and then I pop across the street for a capuccino looking forward to what we will do for lunch/dinner. Speaking of which I need to go check lunch plans Just glad I am nowhere near yesterdays earthquake. I have a knack for running into those while traveling. I was in our Taipei office on the 45th floor of Taipei 101 when a 6.5 hit. I am from Calif, but I've never had an experience like that.
  19. I had something along these lines in Hamel Vallee. I was surprised at how this one team seemed to be holding the line all by itself under an intense amount of fire. On closer examination I realized when they cowered they were effectively out of line of fire on a reverse slope behind the hedgerow. So they'd cower a bit, then recover and pop up fire a few rounds at any target they could see (which was usually infantry now exposed in open ground) receive some suppressive fire, cower, recover etc etc I think the only way they were going to be eliminated is some mortar or artillery fire on the position or someone was gonna have to charge the position during the interval they were cowering with potentially disastrous consequences. Someone not paying attention to that dynamic would probably be crying long and hard about uber soldiers or the ridiculous defensive value of hedgerows when in reality it was a very simply aspect of the terrain. The subtleties of this game should not be under estimated.
  20. LOL I may have to try out some of that calling in sick once I get home... I had an interesting introspective moment last night on the variations on how folks look at the game and how both perspectives can be correct while leading to very different feelings. I was remembering the last few turns of the Hamel Vallee AAR. I had a Marder III attempting to take out a Sherman. It needed to run up a little bit on this road and then fire to it's left to hit a Sherman positioned across a field. While moving up it came under fire from a previously unspotted Sherman, but was still able to take position and immobilize my original target. It was subsequently destroyed by the second Sherman. For me what was really cool was due to relative spotting the initial target never knew about the Marder until it had been struck. In CMx1 it would have known as soon as the other Sherman saw it. In which case in all likelihood it would never have gotten a shot off. Not to put any one on the spot, but one reader commented right away on how quickly the commander took over from the driver when hit. I can't say I am real familiar with the fighting compartment of a Marder or how quickly the driver should be able to be shoved out of the way, nor am I certain exactly how long it took, but certainly less than a turn. I expect the poster was probably correct, my recollection is it did occur pretty quick. However that was less important to me than the fact I was able to catch the Sherman unawares. (Probably because the Marder died anyway LOL). The ability of the Marder to take advantage of relative spotting meant I could make a tactical move that had a higher chance of success than it would have in CMx1. The driver issue is more of a tweak that can affect play, but doesn't really change what I would plan to attempt. (I am just using that post as an example, not trying to imply the poster felt the whole scene was ruined by the driver issue). For me that kind of put in perspective how I perceive a lot of the disconnect for the disparity of viewpoint. You have one group of players that are amazed at how many things Cmx2 gets right and enables you to do and another group that gets hung up on those items that perhaps still need some tweaking. Frankly neither group is "right", it just comes down to what's important to you. One poster commented that CMx2 gets things about 90% but they still can't play the way they want and therefore it is on the shelf until a few more things are patched. For me 90% of the way towards what I want is actually pretty phenomenal considering nothing else in my view even hits the 70% mark. I wish I could get others as enthused about the 90% as I am and that was part of the intent of the AAR, but everything hits us all differently. I can ignore the cow paddy sliding pixeltruppen and quick changing tank positions, but others can't. It's just the way we are wired.
  21. The positive aspect is they do recognize the issue and if we take Steve's comment at face value it implies this is something they do intend to work on, but it is not simplistic. If it means working on the TAC AI I suspect it will take a lot of work and even more testing to iron out the behavior to allow the AI to fight a decent battle. It will certainly become a lot more vulnerable to a human player. Honestly I would not expect it to be changed for CMBN, but would be very happy to be wrong.
  22. Too funny, Have to admit to having purchased it as well and having mostly dropped it. Very interesting concept, but I am finding my level of interest in any game that only can be played versus the AI has dropped- it is your fault LOL
  23. Oh damn I thought they were wearing those shoes kids wear with the wheels on them, dang CM models so much it is awesome! Like... Awesome too damn funny Thankds c3k!
