  1. Uh, speaking of Japanese cars, I don't think that they in any way represent Japanese tanks of WW2. Even plain Shermans were more menacing in the Pacific than King Tigers in Europe.
  2. Of course, funds and hardware availability permitting. It's not like RPGs are hard to get these days... Yeah, just like AKs.
  3. Wasn't CS forbidden by Geneva Convention in warfare? Police force are allowed to use them though. Odd, I know.
  4. In a tight urban setting where combat occures at less than 500m, I bet you'd prefer 10 more RPGs than another Javelin. You can never have to many RPGs, especially for low-tech forces.
  5. Good idea, while waiting for the game release, many would like to familiarize with the modern military lingo and abbreviations. At least the ones that will be very likely related to and used in CMSF.
  6. I'm better of searching for free science-fiction publications in the Internet. Anyone knows where to start?
  7. Talking about prophecys, I've even heard about one that said the rise of the Caliphate will begin in Syria, followed by a war that fits the description of Armageddon. But of course, details may vary...
  8. Please reconsider Those political posts are some of the most entertaining and amusing posts around here . Provided that everyone behaves, of course.
  9. Don't be sorry. Some people (incuding here) need to be reminded of the concequences of deliberately using a derogatory slang that offends the entire Muslim population. Anyone using that is either ignorant, uninformed or looking for trouble.
  10. And from the same war there are stories about Vietnamese who prefered the M16. The grass is always greener on the other side. </font>
  11. Uhm, you were talking about Afghanistan, right? Last time I checked, none of the terrorist groups that actually attacked America were based in Iraq. Well, but they are now. It's about the one with the bigger guns. Bigger guns make right.
  12. Sorry, I didn't save the links. Two years ago, some choppers made emergency landings due to hostile fire seemed trivial compared to other ongoing fightings (the defense of Basra, river crossings in Baghdad, the downing of Blackhawks, M1's got knocked-out, Iraqi counter-attack in the middle of a sandstorm etc). I'm still looking for a particular article about a Republican Guard unit manning 57mm AAAs during the defense of Baghdad. They claimed to have shotdown missiles and choppers. I also read somewhere that many choppers returning from such ambushes went to the shop for some very long time that they never participated again during the major battles or simply sent back home and replaced.
  13. G36K (standard model) also has two integrated sights - a 1.5X for CQB, and a 3.5X for ranged combat. Plus, they have a standard night vision scope you can hook on there. </font>
  14. Yeah, on many occasions a single rifle company were succesfull in routing the Apaches, and forced several to crash land. Mostly palm tree ambushes. IIRC, almost all nearly intact helicopters that were captured were brought elsewhere, torched and claimed as new and different kills by the Iraqis. That way they doubled the total number of choppers that they brought down
  15. Talking about a silver lining for a very ugly looking cloud.... The unprecedented number of troops who are returning from Iraq with missing limbs has given the US Paralympic Team an unexpected recruitment boost and the chance to become “unbeatable” at the next Games in Beijing in 2008.
  16. I remember seeing the old farmer posing with his Mosin-Nagat rifle next to an intact Apache. IIRC later he confessed that he didn't shot it down. It just made an emergency landing at his backyard and some Iraqi officers made a propaganda out of it.
  17. Interesting, as most (if not all) people here agrees that Syria's resistance to a possible US invasion and occupation will make Iraq looks pale in comparison. Rebuilding-wise, a homogenous country is preferable, but it also means a unified enemy.
  18. There are many nations that specifically raised para-military / police-infantry forces for that purpose. Basically police officers in light infantry formations and equipment. Or light infantry with additional police training. They're not meant to pacify occupied territory though, more likely to bring order to restive or rebellious areas.
  19. No, this is only getting more interesting
  20. I don't mean to hijack this thread, but since you mentioned this, it reminded me of an insurgent sniper nicknamed Juba. Is there actually such an individual?
  21. Aah, reminds of the old blaster launcher of XCOM.... Now THAT'S a weapon system that will rule the battlefield...
  22. And the early IJN success. Kido Butai was the most fearsome battle group at the time, and had they managed to actually decimate the USN carrier groups (and occupy Pearl Harbour), things would turn out to be a lot different. Of course, it's also another can of worms to discuss....
  23. But, what difference would it make had the German forces meant to defend Calais were in Normandy at the time of the landing? Maybe things would get more rough for the Allied side, but the sheer weight of the invasion alone would smash through the defences, albeit later and with more casualties.
