  1. Malfuriouspete It’s mostly for showing elevations. And gauging short distances. Grid mods are very popular. I thought everyone would want to use gridded terrain. I don’t think gridded terrain is ‘cheating’ in any sense, it just takes a lot of visual work out of something that would take a lot longer otherwise. It doesn’t give you any information that you theoretically don’t already have. It’s just giving yourself a more efficient map. The only counter-argument I can see is a purely aesthetic one – you might not want your game-map to look like a chessboard. And personally I balk at the ‘topographical’ grids (triangular-looking ones) for just that reason. Too many lines. Even though I agree they give “a better map”.
  2. I'd have thought that gridded terrain mods have been so popular in CMx1 that it should be included in CMSF as a togglable option, at least. Is there anyone who doesn't play CMx1 with gridded terrain? (Come to think of it, who was the genius who first modded that? (And why Haven't I sent him cash)).
  3. I've seen this 'infraction' system in action, and without an unbiased appeal system (of any kind) in place, it amounts to a fakely-legitimised "manual"-ban system. "It's not that you make embarrassingly accurate points in embarrassingly effective ways, it’s just that in the past I’ve been forced to issue you all these ‘infractions’ you see? No, not because you make embarrassingly accurate points in embarrassingly effective ways... no, for, er, other reasons." It's kind of more annoying than just saying, (manually), "Don't like you - go away." (Oops, I just earned an Infraction)
  4. I am starting to think that Australia is a pretty good place after all - (NG cavscout) The only Third World Country in which it's safe to drink the water!
  5. I only came across Combat Mission (CMBB) by accident, in a retail outlet. I just took a chance on it being remotely 'turn-based', and it was probably the best/luckiest game-buy of my life. Much later I bought two back-ups copies for cheap. Farmed one out to friends who also hadn't heard of it. If I have a point, it's that without Retail, lotta people would never have discovered the truly amazing game. I've seen CMSF on retail shelves only once here (AU), and the next time I looked, it was gone, never to be seen since.
  6. I second Bigduke, immediately above. CMx1 had it. And yes, anything that can be done to improve QBs, please. CMx1's QBs were a couple of tweaks away from being perfect. (Well, about five tweaks, but still, that's a few less tweaks than SF).
  7. Just curious guys... is it just me, or does it seem like Dorosh is going out of his way to provoke me into banning him? Seems to me that 'Dorosh' makes reasonable points, reasonably. He expresses his opinion better than most, and with less rancor than most. If that's 'provocation', I wouldn't say, (guys), that's Dorosh's problem. If I were to use the words 'cowardly', 'pathetic' and 'crap' (among others), it wouldn't be with regard to Mr. Dorosh. Guys.
  8. Nidan1 Aren't you afeared of the "Minions of the Bard", rising up against you? They’ve already done that, en mass. All four of them (including you). And like a poorly designed first-person shooter, their badly animated corpses lay at my weary feet, in quite an unatractive pile. I don't find you intersting at all.... Is that a fact? ...at least Seanachai makes sense half the time. Is that a fact?
  9. Lord(s); I see by all the Gods that may, (or may not) be; those that may lend Beauty, Justice, or Truth to the utterances of mortals....have been on god-damned holiday this month. Again. Oh Lord(s), why is it down to me, whilst I am in the middle of polishing my 18th Century door-stoppers, I am called to lay the smack down on this dickhead? Again?
  10. Kellysheroes was correct when he said, I think this module system is going to get tired before it begins good. People are going to see it's just a donkey milking process of chopping CMBO/CMBB and CMAK into modules and just selling each for some near full retail price. A lil change in an engine and some more pretty pictures and doesn't even really feel like the old series at all and oh I'm betting $35 a pop for each module. I didn't buy into CM:SF and I'm not sure I will buy into the rest now after seeing all the issues and problems with CM:SF. It must be pretty bad you can get it for like $7.00 on Amazon.com now. I gratuitously re-printed the above, only because it’s so accurate. The only questionable variables are; how much of a ‘donkey’ do you feel like being ‘milked’? We’ve had a few answers to that already. I’m just saying that what “Kellysheroe’s” said should not be dismissed. (As it was)
  11. Here’s a thing; the US of A (still) has 500 Minute Man nuclear missiles tucked away in various below ground-level sites across several states. Each with (I think) 5 independently targeted quite-big nuclear warheads. Presumably all aimed at – someone. 2500 major nukes. As I type, these missiles are undergoing a re-fit. The fuel systems are being replaced with those that are – ‘Greenhouse’ friendly. So they won’t pollute the air, when they lift off. ... Now, I was despondent about humanity’s future when I saw commercial TV. I was weakened when I saw that you could buy peach-flavoured cat food. When I stopped being a citizen and started being (ordered to be) a ‘consumer’. I sunk deeper when we trade-sanctioned-to-death, bombed-for-10-years, bombed again, invaded, and eventually murdered the democratically elected president – of a country we had ‘nothing’ to do with. But… greenhouse-friendly nuclear attack missiles? I hate the phrase “is something wrong with this picture”, but? (If this observation lacks “Ring of the Giants” resonance, Google, “Race-Track Basing Mode” and find out about the real ring of the gods).
  12. And his ghost may be heard as you passed by that billabong, "Who'll come a-Waltzing Matilda, with me?"
  13. I'm a hideous despot, aren't I? Yes, but without the 'despot' part. (Turns out, you can't actually tell *anyone* what to do or say, eh? With or without your tribal cronies). I just watched the 1970's French 'documentary' about/called "General Idi Amin Dada", and I have to say in all honesty... Amin had 18 childen - is Senachai one of them? I felt it was time to 'bring the hammer down'. Is that what you thought you were doing? You, have a, hammer? I hope your bruise has healed. You know the old saying, "If all you have is a hammer, then " (in your case) ..."everything looks like a four hour wait in the emergency ward with a self-inflicted wound." So I just used 'intemperate' language in a thread to 'Paul AU'. (We all get carried away sometimes). I'd just as soon be hung for a goat, as a sheep. Just as long as you're hung.
  14. I reckon it's probably possible that this sort of thing can be done with some kind of Class. The question is, why hasn’t it so been done? My guess is that the tribal owners want too tight a grip on their ownership.
  15. I think it's important that people who take the time to hate me... Oh, brother... That’s funny. When I swat a mosquito, do I “hate” it? Hardly. I’m just absently defending myself from a mindless attack.
  16. Half of the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm. But the harm does not interest them. T. S. Eliot
  17. The Abuse-Master re-said, backed by it’s fluffy but justice-challenged Orcs: …we've been exchanging insults… Well no, not exactly. With supreme and confident arrogance “Senachi” had said that everyone was a boring dickhead except itself, and I challenged it on that point, noting that it in fact, based on the evidence, seem to be pretty boring and not without some dickheadedness itself. Politely. (This’d be in a previous thread, which I have no doubt spawned this thread). For example, I didn’t call it an “areswipe”, as it did, me I’m not saying it’s not, I’m just saying that I never said it was, not would I. Normally. I questioned its record on the “interesting” front. Is all. And look what happened. For example, this is an “interesting” good-natured repartee, obviously meant to inspire a similar response: “YOU BORE THE **** OUT OF ME!” (Capital letters – are extra INTERESTING!) Now, correct me if I’m wrong (and it is all on record, so be careful which lies are told - this time), but is this not the very first thing I said to it? (Albeit it in slightly less lager-induced language)? So isn’t it now in fact saying, “No, you are!” in the traditional six-year-old manner? Again, I steadfastly refuse to call it an arsewipe, no matter what the provocation. But: “No you are?” Is that where it’s rhetorical skills are up to? Six years old. Pretty clever eh? Engaging” interesing? “ No, you are” I’d like to say that Senachi shouldn’t be as afraid of me as it obviously is. I’d like to. But.... maybe it should? Here's some tips: Avoid bad language, and make every 'personal' attack somewhat 'indirect'. Thanks for the tip, arsewipe. Yo ho.
