  1. I was reading some article the other day which stated that the MG battalions had carriers assigned to them, to move there vickers around. I guess you could assume that the MMG carriers are therefore just the dedicated MG units transport, hence just the vickers onboard. Well just a guess (like the ATR ones, from what ive read it seems reasonable to assume you would see a dude in the back firing his Bren from the thing at the same time as the guys in front firing off the Boys) Bigduke, thats easy to explain .... the tankers find it funny to watch those guys drag them through the mud! Appears to be a Vickers and a Bren gun on this one Boys and a Bren on this one One to many guns! I think the carriers are pretty cool for the photos you see with the ammount of crap the crew or section have put on them!
  2. Is that the one set in a quarry? If so very good scenario, lots of fun
  3. Its because there genetically engineered uber soldiers ... jeez everyone knows that!
  4. Hadnt noticed the bit about S Mine dischargers - sounds like nasty business!
  5. Real Life: Link Wiki article, which to my understanding is spot on In game however its a leathel close range defence weapon for those tanks. An enemy squad closes in on it and you will see little grenades start to fly into the air at them. Makes closing in on these tanks pretty hard sometimes since these grenades can end up routing your men after only a few blasts.
  6. I would recomment the HSG scenarios, espeically the KC (Knights Cross) ones! My own scenario Turncoats, playing as the Germans is nigh impossible to win (lol you can but its hard ...ive only managed once or twice). A scenario by a chap called AL, scenario is called AL-Elbrus and can be found on the Scenario Depot II like the others above. Real hard fighting with a +3 bounus. Ive played Tiger Valley, agaisnt humans and agaisnt the AI ... ive yet to win that bloody scenario ... but i love it lol! (lots of others have won it, i just cant haha) If you do download and play any of them, do leave a review for them Recommendations can be found here The Scenario Depot 2
  7. Guys ive just looked up this thing on google to find out that its one of these:Linkypoo Any ideas why they ended up looking like a Bren Gun Carrier in game? Lack of CD space for correct looking bmp files?
  8. You can just see the guy briefing them, "you got 12 The Work Horse of the German Army now get in there and finish them off .... " War would before before he even got to the last bit!
  9. It was in the bible first... or are you suggesting that Al Murray was right all along when he stated that God is indeed British, which is why we dont have earthquakes in this country... </font>
  10. Thanks John for the info. It does seem its been some bad luck on my behalf. Up until now i have only read memoirs and books analyzing battle/operation/theaters etc (altohugh i should say, these have gave me (as well as googling and other sources have gave me a good insight to other weapons used) I have only recently started purcashing a few books for referance into other things such as uniforms, weapons etc Cheers.

  12. Hi all, was reading through the Bayonet Strength website and came across this quote: Googling it, The No.68 AT Rifle Grenade Stated to be possibly the first HEAT device in use. Claims that it could penetrate through 50mm of armour. First time i have heard of it, thought i would share it with you. It does raise a question though, it says that it was designed in 1940 and was used throughout the war. However i have never heard of it, was it a commonaly used weapon?
  13. When i have read memoirs such as Panzer Meyers and Rommels dairy for example they only ever refer to them, as far as i can recall, as Mark IVs (they have been translated from German into English however). Same for the Panzer III, II (other then the lynx iirc)etc The only ones they called by any other names are like the ones you have mentioned, the Tigers and Panthers etc Whenever they give the size of there force, its like: X x Mark IV X x Panthers Although that doesnt nesseceraly mean that average landser or panzer crew member like you said, did not have a nickname for them. I know you havnt asked for this but, as far as i understand we Brits called them the Mark IV too, the only ones we gave a different name to where the long barreled Mark IVs, which was named the "Mark IV Special". Although that was in the desert so dont know if that carried on into Europe. Hope that helps you somewhat. [ August 13, 2007, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: The_Enigma ]
  14. I agree i found Stalingrad to be, again a good movie but there were scenes as you have described which seemed odd. But i guess we all act like that, it doesnt have to be war or medels but everyday things which i guess you could use as a thin example, which do loose there meaning if you are thrust into a crappy situation etc (although if they dont actually provide that sort of context to explain said attitute it could just be like you have stated)
  15. I had taped the movie when i was younger but the tape ran out just after Steiner makes it back to his lines and the squad gets shot up. There it ended, the tape ran out. I looked forward to the day i could catch it again, in the end i ended up buying it and was bitterly disappointed with the ending. I do wonder what would have happened if they had not run out of money. I think being overly critical of a movie due its realism back in the 70s seem a bit too far. If you look at all the other films, Bride Too Far, Battle of the Bulge etc they all have there own faults i think that is just one of the things you have to accept when people make films (they have to take liberaties either due to availabilty, time or money). To be honest, i dont care if they were wearing tartans or if they got shot a zillion times and didnt die, it was an entertaining movie (accept for the end lol)
  16. Its very much possible, but i would have a play around attempting it first before seeing if you could also pull off agaisnt someone else.
  17. I see nothing wrong with pulling your trucks, halftracks etc off the map if you feel you dont need them ... because if i spot them i will try and get something into that rear area to shoot them all up! Although i most cases i cba to evac this stuff off the map so it will go hide in a forest or sit off behind some building etc hehe
  18. That one has puzzeled me too. If you believe the Allied Tankers accounts, very gun was an 88. Which quite fairly everyone says is nonescence. However when you read some German accounts, look at some OOB you find they had zillions of these things all over the place! Although that again raises the question of there was zillions of them there must have been gzillions of other types! Off the top of my head i can use on example, that being at some ridge in the western desert during the 2nd Alamien. There was something like 20 88mm Flak guns, although they were supported by a crap load of Pak 36 and 38s as well as Italian AT guns. That was just one small area, which happened to be where they decided to smash through with an Armoured Brigade (it actaully inflicted quite a good deal of dammage to this gun but was practically wiped out, but it did turn the tide of the battle).
  19. Am never too good when away from the game and attempting to create an OOB and the price it will cost you but... I have recently had great sucess over KV tanks with those little Marders you get packing the Soviet AT gun. It was in a scenario i had two of them and nailed myself at least 2 KV tanks with them (cant remember if i got more, allot of tanks died in that battle ) Another option if you were to be playing tank heavy could be to go with Panzer IV (shorts), there HE ammo can disable the KV tanks and knock them out from my experiance (seemed to me it was allot more effective then any other gun during that period other then the Marders one and the 88). Although this does require a few of them and quite a number of HE rounds last time i tried it. (i should state i only did this in a few SP games and havnt actaully tried it agaisnt another person but the theroy works ) But anyhoo just some thoughts which you may wanna try out in SP or something to see if you can work with it before going into MP... 20. On the scenario depot you have 2 that i know of set in Arnhem: HSG Arnhem Mayhem v2 The Devil's Bridge... Arnhem Both good scenarios but i like the later better i felt it gave a more realistic interpredation of the town and its actually possible to win as the British. Although that doesnt mean its going to be an easy fight! But it was really fun to play. The former which ive played a few times, has more of an urban battle feel to it imo but some dont like the layout of the map. In my last playthrough (only got half way through before my opponent disappeared) i was actaully winning but still had some time to go and with more and more Gerrys appearing. If you dont mind some spoliers i would check out the discussion area for the latter as screenshots from mine and a chap called 'Navy' playtest are still on there with our AAR. One final word fun beats grammar monkeys [ July 26, 2007, 02:11 AM: Message edited by: The_Enigma ]
  21. I believe there was a German fighter pilot who racked up a large number of kills stated something along the lines of the numbers he downed didnt show anything about his skill but it showed that he had allot more oppounity to makes the kills then say fighter pilots over the western front. One could possibly apply this. Wittmann had more opponunites - time and numbers of tanks his opponents had in comparion to the time and opporunities allied tankers in the ETO would have. So i think the articles summary of who was the better tank is a little silly.
  22. I remember reading an article many years ago, so sorry i cant link to it or anything, which stated that tank design pre war and during the war was very much a case of you pick 2 out of the 3: Firepower Mobility Protection. Dont know if that should effect our own or the authors perception on the tank designs seen throughout the war?
  23. I think most people forget that bit. Wittmann = he only ever had a Tiger, was the highest scoring Panzer Ace Evar! he wiped out the 7th Armour division at Villas Bocage
