  1. dicedtomato “Correction, Blashy. Rommel was a dumbass strategist whose grandiose plans for the Middle East would have required more trucks than the Germans had in all of Russia. A good tactician, a good corps commander in the estimation of his superiors, but definitely out of his league at the strategic level.” No dicedbrain, YOU are the dumbass!
  2. KillerTomato Thank you for your input. I was browsing the Internet to find the patch to PG1 and came across something called LGeneral as well as a surprisingly big PG2 community. Unfortunately for me, I like PG1 the most followed by PG3 Scorched Earth. The reason PG1 is my favourite is that you can both win and lose without the game being over. Also it has an almost infinitive amount of massive maps. I heard that then they made LGeneral (only for Linux I think) they found PG1 maps that no one had played yet. That says a lot. I never liked PG2, but maybe I should check it out. Maybe I can reconsider. It would be great to have some retro fun while waiting for SC2 to be playable. Do you’ve any good websites to recommend? jjr So you’re challenging me in a 1on1 game ah? Is that because I just wrote that I only played SC2 twice against the poor AI?
  3. jjr "And if you don't know the answer to your own signature question... " I do, the answer is: We shouldn't!
  4. Moon/Martin, thanks for noticing that this was not directed against you or Hubert. I’m also, as I wrote, quite aware about the nagging that took place (that I was a part of myself) about getting the game released. I would’ve most probably even wanted the game to be released earlier with a weak AI rather then later with a strong one. Also, I’m confident in that Hubert want consider the game finished until it’s patched up to a high quality level. My irritation is against those in the forum that only see to their own needs and attack (usually new) players in the forum that, quite often, have correct worries or criticism. I'm really looking forward to the 1.01 patch.
  5. Unfortunately for me that have bought 2(!) copies of SC2, I can just agree to Stragic Commands disappointment. After a couple of SC2 games I decided to dust off my old Panzer General from the ice age or something. I actually enjoin PG more. It says it all! I haven’t played it since I guess some years after its release during the terra(?) period. It’s a better game in almost every aspect and WITH a good AI. What bull***** (pardon my English) to say that the AI doesn’t matter. The game was marketed as a single player game with a multiplayer option. That’s what I was barging AND paying for. Period! By the way, the friend I bought the other copy to he thinks the game suck so badly that he’s actually making a sacrifice to play the AI to learn the basics to play against me later. Still, I like the idea of the game and am grateful that Hubert has created it as well as trying to improve it. I remember how desperately we wanted it to be released. If he fixes the AI during time to come (that I’m sure he will) SC2 can and will (I hope) be a great game. *) Talking about bull**** always reminds me of jon_j_rambo. “Now, I'm onto complaining about gas prices, we won the war in Iraq…” Won the war in Iraq? Lol We just lost it dude!
  6. Hi guys, I love your work regarding improving the AI. But I hate the fact that armoured units are the best for city defence. Have you seen any thread regarding this, what I consider, problem?
  7. Best unit: HQs Worst unit: Engineers Best buy: Corps Worst buy: Carriers Coolest unit: Rockets Useless unit: Rockets Missed unit: Destroyers
  8. Good Fire, fight for you 100% correct point regarding Paratroopers. You’ve to get used to some tiresome ppl in this forum that ALWAYS defend the game (even then Hubert don’t) and comes with one explanation worse then the other. Tip, just ignore them! Retributar, pls post your observation in the tech support forum. It’s an important one. I’ve seen it myself. Is it only air fleets that have that problem?
  9. Interesting observation Von Epps. I’ve seen similar myself. Also, you’ve the opposite, naval units can attack over land. Wales is a good example. It’s especially frustrating then subs are involved and sending their torpedoes far OVER land. I also agree with you then it comes to the effect of rough seas. Lets hope that Hubert fixes this to the next patch.
  10. Hi Timskorn, now is it the end of 1944. My Italian troops have smashed the British and taken control of Egypt. Rommel landed in Syria and took care of the Russian level 4(!) tanks there. In Russia they are level 0-2. The Middle East is now cleaned up. UK has fallen along with US HQ and several armies and corps. Kesselring is preparing to invade USA. German, Italian, French and (just joined) Spanish naval units are heading for the US cost. USA will surrender in summer ’45. Russian front has been tough with swarms of commie tanks counterattacking and good defences around the cities. My level 5/5 str.15 planes and rockets just moved from the west front are finally forcing the commies on the run. I play Expert +2 for your info.
  11. Hi Timskorn, maybe I’ve misunderstood the coup function. I fought it meant they joined either side. Anyway, after diplomatic actions, Iraq joined me (Axis) and I sent the Baghdad corps to take Teheran. Big mistake! Upgraded Russian tank was waiting. Then the Iraqi’s desperately fled back to entrench Baghdad, one more upgraded Russian tank showed up. (In Russia thou, no tanks are upgraded.) After one turn Iraq belonged to the allies. US army and corps landed on either side of Vichy Frances NA town and were slowly massacred by the 8 strength VF corps and the Italian navy.
  12. jon_j_rambo, it was a long time since I read such “fairytales”. I hope its irony and not your firm belief. By the way, your link didn't work either.
  13. Playing your mod right now Timskorn. Got surprised by the Russian tanks swarming out of Iran. France was tough to take. But US forces in NA was repelled by Vichy France and the Italian navy. No US HQ showed up. In UK I kill everything showing up with my LW. Russian front is tough thou. The only problem I see is that then there is a coup in Yugoslavia or Iraq the text comes up, but nothing happens.
  14. There should be garrison units in SC2. They were wildly used by both sides in the conflict. I would prefer to have them rather then the unbalanced (regarding cost) armies. They could represent units under training, rest, convalescent or simply units with low battle value like Volkssturm and so on. (This doesn’t mean that VS was used in Russia, so don’t start that pls.) I try to avoid correcting ppl regarding history, cause many others (unfortunately a lot of them with bad knowledge) already do. But one of SMGs comments really needs a correction. SMG writes: “You can add ost battalions also, russian POW gathered in small units, with a core of german watchdog soldiers, they fought very poorly and were not used for police/garrisoning.” They were used in almost all roles during the last years, even thus policing and garrisoning was rare. I can mention that they for instance played a significant role during D-Day something that most ppl don’t know. Also they fought extremely well countless times, but have been forgotten. The Germans didn’t want to give those credits of obvious reasons, the allied kept silent for propaganda reason and they could never tell their story because they got executed by the Communists in the end of the war. (Those captured by the allies was sent to execution in Soviet.)
  15. Good point xwormwood! I was surprised by this myself. Egypt was more or less occupied by the allies at that time as well as many of the other Arab countries in the Middle East. Just like Iraq is today. Germany was considered as a potential liberator by most Arab people in this region. Many fought as partisans/resistance against the allies with or w/out support from Germany. Some may say that Arabs also fought for the Allies. True, but most of them were paid or in some rare cases chose the allied side because rival “tribes” supported the Germans. It can also be mentioned that the German SD, Brandenburgers and so on tried to establish command/stab centrals in for ex. Cairo, but failed for various reasons. If succeeded, the resistance fighters would most likely have started to fight more aggressively and open. They were waiting for an opportunity like those who rebelled in Warsaw 1944. In there case it never came. The African campaign would likely been a lot different then; even thus speculating about alternative history always is just speculations. jon_j_rambo may be a good SC2 player, but his comment: “The Germans had a plan to send a small batch of murderers to Palestine to set up death camps during WW-2. There's no way a bunch of Arabs are going to become friend's to the West, AFTER a takeover by Fritz...living & dying for UK/USA.” can be ignored to but it nicely.(If it was some internal joke I'm not aware of, I'm sry.)
  16. Great initiative! My coming weekend is hereby booked for your mod. Bye to planed booze and babes!
  17. “The problem with Norway is that u dont have the norway / rusian border. If this has been included it would have been an oppertunity to counquer murmansk from finnmark and stop the convoys to russia early in the war. In WII, about 300 000 german troops was placed in Finnmark/Kirkenes, and about the same amount on the other side of the border, but now one seem to know about this!” This is a very good point. I’ve been thinking the same myself. SC2 lack of simulation of this fact as well as the absence of a simulation of the very important Murmansk railroad (if cut the convoy option should be closed) has “killed” the whole northern strategic option. This is one of the biggest flaws in SC2 regarding simulating WWII on an strategic level. PS. jon_j_rambos stupid/PC remark re. blackbellamy cool post is hilarious. Lol
  18. Have anybody heard anything regarding a first patch?
  19. Then I played a friend over internet he’s carrier (the one in Alexandria) attacked itself then he right clicked on it. This happened twice as well as with another unit. (Can’t remember which one.) This was the same game that we later couldn’t restart due to the message “Error: Socket expired”. I think this can be important info to Hubert. I can send the file if interest for it exists.
  20. Thanks Hubert for your answer. It turned out it was something wrong with the save file. We were able to start a new game, but not the saved one. The only reason for this we could figure out was that the one what joined saved the game, not the host. Could that be the explanation?
