"Hiding" vehicles.
imported_no_one replied to With Clusters's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Stick to using the hide command for when your vehicles are in some kind of cover.Whether it be scattered trees,or brush--possibly,but doubtfully, even steppe and wheatfields. Hiding in the open ground is just a waste. It may also lead to losing vehicles because of a hiding vehicles tendency to not want to engage a target unless being targeted. You will find that there are times that it can work well.Hiding vehicles in sct trees isnt too bad during the day, they make it hard to get a good ID on the shooter, and can easily break LOS contact. Now,picture vehicles hiding in sct trees at night :evil grin: -

What the Big Boys play with
imported_no_one replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Not to mention evolving environment/time.Weather moves in and out--rain starts and stops. The sun moves across the sky,increasing/decreasing sun glare. The wind comes and goes.Ground conditions could also change, depending on time and circumstances. That would do wonders for believable combat environment -
How to remove ski?
imported_no_one replied to Steiner14's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Ok then.... I was under the impression that troops that were on ski's had a higher exposure % and would take casualties at a faster rate.Is this correct?I remember a finnish battle where I had ski troops, and I managed to get them to fight(out of woods)while on their ski's,but they took casualties really quickly. I have always viewed troops moving on ski's the same way I view troops "moving".It should only be done when you are sure there is going to be no enemy fire.Except that ski troops moving through woods or sct trees, might not fair as poorly as troops moving in open ground. -

#@!% Flame thrower teams!
imported_no_one replied to eyepilot's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
Flame throwers are pretty tough to use on the offensive. They are best used defensively. You cant advance them right with your infantry. They need to be kept about two turns worth of walking behind your infantry force. They are to be called up when your infantry is pinned down and needs that little extra something to get them going again. FT's are best used in dense terrain or low light situations.Woods are a great place to use them as LOS avenues will be short, plus the good defense bonus of the woods terrain will allow you to "sneak" them up to do their thing--mind the time of year though. In an urban environment LOS is often very short as well, and they could/should be used in a similar manner. If you have them "moving" or "running" they will take casualties very easily. So it is best to have them "sneak" up when you suspect there might be some fire.A good plus to stealth HQ will help also. -

Unhandled Exception c00000000005
imported_no_one replied to Captnbn's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I dont understand either. But thinking back,I vaguely remember having this same problem along time ago,and after modding the t-34's it stopped. What I dont understand is why only this one scenario.I am playing in another one that has t-34's and the battle is taking place in steppe, and has had smoke screens being used as well.I am playing as the germans though. How strange. -
Unhandled Exception c00000000005
imported_no_one replied to Captnbn's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I think what the problem is is that I normally only play as the germans.Since I am playing as the russians, this is the only thing I can think as to why it is doing it.I am pretty sure that I have narrowed it down to the t-34's causing the problems. If I hit shift-V and cut vehicles off,the error doesnt happen nearly as often,or at all. Is it possible that any of this is true?Might I be able to fix the problem by switching to a different t-34 mod? -
Unhandled Exception c00000000005
imported_no_one replied to Captnbn's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
No the problem started first. Then I updated my driver, but it didnt fix the problem.I then had to roll back the driver to resolve issues with other games not working. The problem was still there. You know the rest..... If all else fails, try reinstalling directX,it cant hurt. </font>
