Lord Harmes replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I hope nobody ever invents a Spandex gun... Imagine the horror... "fix bayonettes... check your your weapons.. over the top.. CHARGE! BLAM BLAM BLAM... Am I hit? Must carry on.. there.. enemy ahead.. writhing in pain.. no wait.. they're laughing? what? ... look down... the evil bastards! they fired a pair of tight spandex shorts onto me... oh the shame!...death." -
I think house must have not known what to do and just exploded out of embarrassment!

Two features for the next game please

Those both sound like really great ideas! Well done. It would certainly make for a more dynamic game! -
Armour. How has it progressed???
Lord Harmes replied to Lord Harmes's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
There are actually quite a few ChallengerII British tanks in Iraq now... and they obviously took part in the invasion, and capture of Basra... I don't think any were lost, and I can assume they have been targeted by the same sort of weaponry as the M1. I'll see what I can find out! I was sure that Britain exported a type of Chobham to the US, and used an upgraded version on the new Challenger tanks... but I may be wrong on that! -

Armour. How has it progressed???
Lord Harmes replied to Lord Harmes's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
So am i right in believing that Chobham armour was first developed for the British Cheiftan tanks? And how does the Abrams compare to the Challenger 2??? i've been searching for images of the tank that got hit the other day... but can't find a thing!!! -

Armour. How has it progressed???
Lord Harmes replied to Lord Harmes's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
I'm not over looking the technological progress... just asking if anyone can guage the advance??? Hence the "how much has it progressed" part of the question! So perhaps someone might know what percentage of improvement on penetration would an RPG have over a ww2 panzerfaust? Or how does the manufacture of armour and materials differ between modern tanks and WW2 tanks??? -

Oops.. i mean't BEEN not beening! Erm.. and LED not lead. durr -
Hey there... I have just beening watching a US Abrams tank on Sky News get RPG'd in Iraq. It seems to have been badly damaged because there are some nasty images of the bloodied crew bailing out. This lead me to wonder how much better armour on tanks is??? If Abrams are being taken out by RPGs.. then could a Tiger do the same? And how would say a Tiger or panther stand up to LAWs or RPGs???? Anyone know???

Is there a CMAK explosion mod?
Lord Harmes replied to John Kettler's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Wouldn't the type of explosion you get depend on the weather? I would have thought that explosions happening in the desert would be rather dusty and hang in the air for a while, whilst explosions happening in the mud of Italy would be somewhat less dusty... especially in the rain. The only explosions I have ever seen were from 105mm light guns in thr Royal Artillery... Seeing as we were on the plains os Salibury there what just a puff of light coloured smoke and not much dust... just a lot of mud and turf being thrown about. There was no fireball either just a white flash. -
No. Thats the job of clairevoyants!!!

Armoured Infantry in Quick Battles
Lord Harmes replied to Cpl Steiner's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
That's fair enough. But don't you miss being suprised? Or having to deal with tactics that might suddenly change? If you wanted to play against someone who certainly isn't egotistical, and certainly is patient, then I'm still willing. I don't even mind if you did all the setting up, thus reducing the chance of your interest waning... -
erm... how the devil do i get into a tournament and start cracking some heads together?

Armoured Infantry in Quick Battles
Lord Harmes replied to Cpl Steiner's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Why don't you play against people? Don't you trust them? Or do you lose a lot??? lol I regard myself as 100% trustworthy, and I'd love to see what you're made of! -
Thanks for all the interesting replies... I'm pretty convinced that they would be very useful in attacking towns in the game. The link above has a good referance to them being used against buildings etc. So lets hope they can be included in the new engine eh?
-
Nice pics. Was there any practical reason for them not to be in the game? I'm guessing it has something to do with the 2 hours it took to load? Though I think they should still be in there... maybe as one shot wonders.

Why are there not any rocket tanks in CM??? There is a picture here showing some rockets being fired at a range of 200 yards.. so surely they could be used in a practicle game sense???? Or have i just missed them??? http://www.752ndtank.com/RocketTanks.html

hmmm... on Wednesdays I go and sit with an 82 year old ex-commando named John Austin who served in N.Africa, Dieppe, Anzio and Normandy... I'll ask him if he can remember ever seeing/using any kind of sticky bomb or other AT grenade/device. He might be able to throw some light on the subject eh? Even though I am convinced that the CW forces have been shortchanged in CMAK...
-
Erm... I don't actually know this for sure, but I can only assume that the blast decreases in power from the centre outwards... At least thats what obviously happens in real life, and what seems to happen during the game. Though I do often wonder if the radius of the damage effect is determined by the blast value of the explosion, or pre-set distance according to the size/type of weapon being used... oh god! does that make sense? lol
-
Yeah that makes good sense! Cheers mate!

If engineers can clear mines with satchel charges... does that mean direct fire from SP artillery can destroy mines?
