My cable modem is sitting there blinking, wondering why my computer isn't responding. I do the same thing. Damn computers.

Hiya... Here's a little tutorial I did a while back for some people I PBEM with that explains how to use on board mortars with a HQ as a spotter. Hopefully you'll find it easy to understand and very helpful.

I know I fight an scenario and a operation differently. In a scenario am a lot more aggresive and a lot more reckless as well. What do I have to lose? But in an operation I am much more careful with my men and equipment. They have to last as long as possible. Otherwise it could be very hard to achieve victory 5,6,8 battles later.

Hiya and Welcome... I've written some AARs and posted them here on a friend's site. While I am far from a great writter they might help some. But more importantly, I have the wonderfully written and highly amusing battle between MasterGoodale and ParaBellum linked there. I also have a couple other really good AARs I've linked to. These alone should help your playing some. Give them a read.

Dang JasonC, I don't know how you have time to play considering how long your posts always are. I recently read on a web site that even one or two KVs in an area could bring an advance to a halt while the Germans either found a way around or waited for something that could KO the KVs to arrive. I think it was at battlefield.ru but I'm not too sure.

So on a whole, is it worth it to get one every now and then in CMBO?

A PBEM partner of mine and co-moderator of a small CM forum we started up on a frieds site asked the following and I couldn't really give a good answer... It was brought up because I was doing an AAR and mentioned I bought a 57mm RR because I'd never used one before and wanted to try it out. But I now have mixed feelings on them and would need to play with them some more. So can someone fill me in?

Chances are that your spotter does not have a radio. If that's the case then he is unable to get in a vehicle because he needs to lay down phoneline as he moves so that he can be in contact with the battery.

I'm sure someone here can help me out, you are all so knowledgable. What's the L** number after the gun size? ie 75/L42 I'd assume the bigger the number after the L the better but I'm not sure what it stands for. Thanks. BigD

Of course Russia wasn't involved in a war against Germany at the time. I think the big deciding factor if Germany had taken all of Europe would be who got the A bomb first. Without it Germany wouldn't be able to invade the US. The logistics for such an invasion would be too hard having to support it across the ocean. Same for the US. If we tried to land in Nazi Britian it would be an all or nothing thing. If the troops got beaten back then it would have been very hard to try again. But if you can nuke a few cities first and clear the way then it would be a different story for either side. Of course you'd be sending your troops through radioactive land but the dangers weren't really known at that time.

Any word on when CMMODs will be back up?

Must be one of those people who value graphics over gameplay. And why does everyone rip into this game because of lack of music? Is it really that big of a deal to people? It isn't for me. Usually I'll just put a CD on or something for background music.

Ouch! :eek: Well I haven't used the site too much personally but when it's back up I'll be sending ya a few bucks. The site is a true asset to the CM community and you put in a lot of hard work and time for all of us. It's the least I can do.

Well perhaps it's worth it sometimes. That 500 point plane took out a platoon of StuGs, a Hetzer, a PaK40, killed about 10 infantry, knocked out a 81mm mortar. The only thing is I really don't think that this happens very often. But then again I never buy the expensive planes. Is it worth getting the more expensive ones?

Oh and then it gets better. Then the plane proceeds to fire on units I have hidden in woods. WfF??? How can he see them? Oh well. Perhaps I'll get this lucky someday.

I just experienced the most devistating air strike I've ever suffered. In four turns I lost 4 tanks, a PaK40, and several infantry to one IL-10 'Beast' I've never, never seen this happen before. Half the time I get a plane it either aims for my troops or misses it's targets by at least 50 yards. I'm just wondering if this was a lucky fluke or something that actually happens kind of often and I've just always been unlucky. One other question, do 88mm Flak cannons shoot at these planes or not? I have two and they just sit there. Weren't the 88s more for shooting at the high flying bombers than the lower flying fighter/bombers?

Like your IS-1 against my lowly StuGs??? I typically look at the map and look for good approaches that will provide plenty of cover to move forward with. I try to use hills when possible to block LOS. I don't necessarily always go for the flags. Terrain can be more important and if there is a great position where I can do a lot of damage I'll go for that first. Of course this is all my theory. I suffer from always rushing too much. Especially in my approach during the first few turns. I need to learn to slow down some and work more on moving forward while using the terrain.

I too run McAfee and have had similar problems. But only with the install. I have to turn off the AV software to load the game but afterwards I can play it just fine. If your daughter's computer is running Norton you just might want to switch AV software. That or turn off McAfee while you play and turn it back on once you are done. Another option would be to contact McAfee but I doubt they could do much.

I'm currently playing 11 but the one with kommandant is pretty much over and he's pretty busy right now so that's kinda on hold. A few others aren't running very fast at all. I haven't seen Nuclear Winter in a few days and am still waiting for files from statusperfect and tromik.

I'm never too busy for another PBEM.
