  1. This feature is already included, kinda. If you target an enemy unit, YOUR units that can see it will be highlighted. There are a lot of little features like this, that once you learn them, make the game a helluva lot easier
  2. Targetting lines just don't work anymore. Click your shooter, and any enemy units it can see (and are likely shooting at) will be highlighted. Different game, not better or worse, just different.
  3. Ya know, just wanted to say, this could have been a screenshot from my first run at this mission too. I saw an explosion and initially thought it might have been a minefield. Then the whole bridge blew up, taking out a squad running across! I lost more soldiers in that single explosion than in my next three games combined!
  4. I drove an M1 back in the 90's and there are situations that can cause "cumulative" track damage. I was driving through a gully when my green LT asked me to turn up the bank on the left. I slowly pulled forward, knowing this was a bad idea, and began to hear a clacking sound. I backed up and told the LT it was a bad idea. We eventually exited the gully over a less steep embankment. Later on, while checking track, several of the center guides had been sheered off. If we would have continued, or tried again to exit the gully, I'm certain we would have lost the track. So some damage was caused, but we lost no mobility.
  5. Thanks for the help there Lethaface. I lost an M1 on the berm! In hull down, no less. I was surprised. I imagine it was some form of ATGM that probly got a lucky hit on the lower hull. I bombed the trenches and made my way up the road after leveling most of the compound too. Thats when the real trouble started. The game began to play very slow, the clock would jump in 3-5s increments. I'm downloading the 1.21 patch as I type this, hopefully that will solve that problem. I do look forward to leveling the complex again, and NOT losing any M1's this time. And after thinking about it, and nursing my hurt ego, not knowing what killed the M1 is fine by me... I just miss being able to find out what killed my jumbo sherman after the battle, like CMx1.
  6. I pre-ordered the game, and have only played a few times since I received it. Initially, the game was so buggy to be unplayable for me, it is a lot better now of course. I just got done playing the first mission in the campaign, I had my tanks in a long strung out line engaging the enemy from long range. While micro managing my right flank, a track on the left was knocked out. By what? I have no clue... and dont think its possible to ever find out. I can't learn from a mistake if I dont know wtf happened! I was playing in real time, since it seems to play better that way. I tried WEGO but everything is too lethal... its not nearly as forgiving as CMx1 Overall, I wish I had an updated CMx1 =( I really hope Normandy is better, CMx2 is a bust for me so far.
  7. Could expose the more vulnerable lower hull, but prevent a Bradly or Abram... no.
  8. This will bite ya in the ass, too bad we dont have a time-machine so all of us people who "think their opinions matter more than others" can be proven right.
  9. Realtime is NOT a step towards realism.... these games aren't realistic because it is not "realistic" at all to have a single person controlling every single aspect of a Company+ sized formation. If you want a realistic RealTime game, it would be squad level at best, and you would have to tell your individual soldiers what to do.. Because "realistically" one man is only ever in charge of a squad sized element(and even that is pushing it). To command more people, its not realistic, so just throw out the idea that "Real life is real time, so any game trying to realistically portray combat has to be in RealTime". The compromise between the two, was WE/GO, and apparently, BFC and many of its fans have forgotten that. Sorry I said "real" 18 times...
  10. I think its laughable that people think a 4.5 rating is severe. This game is horrible. And while I know all the supporters and BFC people will say "This isnt CMx1, its CMSF, so stop comparing them" that doesnt change the *FACT* that CMx1 was an amazing and revolutionary game, and this game is... not. I keep starting it up... trying to play it, giving it a 20th or 30th chance, and it disappoints every single GD time. If its not the sluggish graphics and horrible framerates, its the unforgivable AI that does nothing but get your troops killed unless you choose to play in Real-time... which I have no desire to do. These games were/are best with the WE/GO system. It was and is the best of both worlds.
  11. This part really struck home with me.. Many of the people I used to play SL/PL/PB with just are not interested in CMx1. I tried, I argued, I fought tooth and nail to try and persuade them to give it an honest chance. I knew that if they gave it the same chance I did, they would LOVE those games. Because at those games heart was a sound, tactical wargame like none other ever created. They were AMAZING!! CMSF is nothing like any wargame I've ever played... and thats not a good thing. I would never try and sell this game to any of my friends, its simply not worth the money in its current form. I honestly think the 1:1 representation is the biggest blame. I'm sorry, but it really doesnt matter if Pvt. Smith is wounded, where he's wounded or whatever... I only really care if the *unit* is fit for battle. CMx1 did this well, CMSF just makes you a baby sitter.. with nifty new graphics.. assuming you have one of the systems that were used by some beta-tester.
  12. Maybe its because they dont stop when fired upon (taking casualties)? They only stop when they see something... Point is, assault doesnt work either, because they dont stop.
  13. My feeling is that since the game was designed to be played in realtime, they didnt consider the need for a "move to contact" command. Dunno why people are being rude about a reasonable question, since "assault" isnt what he wanted to do...
  14. I don't mind the camera, nor the UI, its the horrible pathing that makes it unplayable. Simple commands they screw up so horribly its unforgivable. Seriously... it appears that zero testing was done (which I know is not the case) ITS THAT BAD! My only thought is that anyone who likes this game as-is has to be playing it realtime and doesn't mind the constant micro-managing. There is no other possible way anyone could enjoy it.
  15. My email server down as well... So glad I pre-ordered with BF... since it seems everyone else had their game before me.
  16. Yeah... I was abit surprised by the "I dont play it anymore" response aswell. Dunno whether I'm excited or afraid now to try RealTime. =)
  17. That was pretty cool =) Reminds me alot of the WoW movies people make. I bought the album!
  18. 400%... aircraft/heavy arty can be very pricey.
  19. My own personal usage of U.S. Squad rifle grenades has always been very very deadly. I have no problems knocking out german armor at all. Usually side shots, and at far greater ranges than I every expected (50m+). Although, it is annoying when they fire off 3-4 in a couple seconds... would much prefer for them to wait to see the effects before shooting them all off. Its obvious my little pixel soldiers are far more worried about the armor than I am though =)
  20. I've seen something similar happen, at night. I had a full squad of brits assaulting a heavily suppressed german AT-team get completed routed in one volley of fire. The fire came from his platoon though, when they engaged the AT team in close proximity to my assaulting squad, it shattered my guys. Maybe this can happen in day time too? Your fire effecting your troopers if they're extremely close? JR
  21. GeForce 7300 LE, same problem Double click icon, hourglass then nothing...
  22. Would LOVE to see a Warhammer 40k/Fantasy game. Either sci-fi or fantasy would be awesome. I know its unlikely, but I just love the reading, lore and history, but playing the table top game is just lacking. Not to mention the $$$ involved. Their computer games always miss the mark aswell, being just like every other RTS out there.
  23. Wow Kiwi Joe, thats kinda scary. With the exception of Raid over Moscow which I never played, that list of games you posted are all among my favorites aswell=) Would probly only add Master of Monsters from the Sega Genesis. And I still really like Dawn of War, but mostly because I'm such a huge 40k fan.
