  1. I knew I was hooked the day I was driving my son to an airplane museum (March AFB). Looking at a wheat field I said to him, "A whole company of Russian SMG infantry could be hiding in that wheat." He said, "Dad you're obsessed".
  2. WWI proved cavalry attacks were suicide. The Russians knew this too.
  3. Sounds fine to me. "Below Remain" is the correct translation. It is a well known fact many of the Naazi were occultists. When a battle went bad they would conjur up the demons. At the point in the battle where you heard this response the battle was probably going OK for the Naazis. Thus they were requsesting the evil spirits to "BELOW REMAIN". ...
  4. Holy Cow!! And the Tank Hunters still had 10 bullets left!!
  5. One more trick to improve spotting turn-off the trees and smoke/dust. Shift-t adjusts the tree setting through 4 levels from extreme to off. During the setup/planning phase turn them on. This helps you know where to hide and to see the avenues of advance. But when your looking for the bad guys turn them off. In a very busy battle the smoke and dust makes it harder to look all around. Turn them off to see, then turn them on for the eye candy of the game.
  6. Happy Birffday at you. 130 posts in a year. Geeez, Dorosh can do that in a 2 hour session. Slacker.
  7. nevjr , At the CMMODS site, look under CMBO then newest about 10 down is a buncha files CMBO_A_Scenarios and CMBO_B_and_C_Scenarios etc. For CMBB they are on page 2. Something like Scenario Depot Salvage 1 , 2, 3 etc For CMAK they are somthing like CMAK_A_thru_G CMAK_H_thru_M.
  8. Thanks Hunter, The key parameter I was questioning was "ORDERs". More questions: What are the possible outcomes of a AutoResolveBattle (ARB)? Can a unit be forced to retreat? Can boff sides still hold some ground be on the ARB square? Can one side be forced to do a total surrender in ate ARB square? Are all of these outcomes possible depending on the factors mentioned above, especially force ratio. Yet another question: You state it resovles battles very quickly.... What if... a depleted platoon(Ger) has a tank battailion (Russ) move in at minutee 5... ARB results in all dead for the platoon. Then at minute 7 another (Russ)mech inf company moves in, will these guys not get fired on because the original battle was resolved "quickly"...
  9. Let's say a people-fought battle ends with both sides in control of 1/2 the map and both sides having depleted companys. Both commanders give dig in/hold ground orders. In the next hour neither side gets any reinforcements. What's gonna happen in a auto-resolve battle??? How about if help shows up (attacking force) at the 30 minute mark, would the holding units join in the attack?? I bet a good detailed AAR would answer this and many other questions.
  10. Are there any general orders issued just before auto res battles. Something like, dig in/hold ground, probe, all out attack. Or is every battle a fight to the death? Something like: Two groups meet and both try like hell to own all 4 flags on the map. Or is it not specific "auto res" orders but the flow of the game. The side that just entered the square is the attacker and will always attack. The side that was there will defend. If boff sides enter a square at the same time it's a ME.
  11. Beam me up Scotty no signs of intelligent life around here. (Refering to St-Dia-blow)
  12. In a CMC encirclement, would the CMBB bullet supply be zero thus triggering a surrender for the side?
  13. Ha, I wouldn't be so sure. You never know what people will attempt. I've seen CM maps so huge and unbelievably detailed, you would never guess someone would spend 200 hours doing that but they do. I predict this will reach new highs with the advent of CMC. As far as the impossible unit densities, I totally agree. No CMBB games involving 200+ tanks and 8000+ troops in a 2x2 tile will be happening. But I guess you could use the auto-resolve feature to take care of those giant battles, while the human players controlled smaller units in the great scheme of things, such as units involved in flanking or other actions around the periphery of the urban areas. </font>
  14. I'd expect the urban portion of a Stalingrad map to be multiple CMC squares. Stalingrad Map The city looks like its about than 16KM end to end -with some gaps. That would be 8 CMC squares. Im sure no one will make a map this big. Think 6th Army vs the 62 Army.
  15. Was the question ever answered about CMBB map damage remaining from one battle to the next? What if the 2 battles don't take place on sequential CMC turns?
  16. Thanks Andreas. Great site. I liked this part: - - - - - Types of Forest 3. This Regiment has now fought in woods of many varieties. As a result of this experience it is considered that it is practicable for tanks to support infantry in forests where the trees are more than 12 feet high and 3 feet apart. It is not practicable, however, for tanks to support infantry in young plantations where visibility is nil. In such plantations it is impossible for tanks to keep touch with the infantry, except in the rides, and tanks are unable to defend themselves against bazooka teams. 4. A coniferous forest presents less difficulty to the passage of tanks than does a deciduous forest. A Churchill tank will knock down a coniferous tree of 2 feet diameter, and a “Honey” a tree of 1 foot diameter. The tree is normally broken off at the base, though sometimes, and more particularly by “Honeys” it is uprooted. The reason for this is that the “Honey” tank tends to ride up the tree before pushing it over, while the “Churchill” with a flat forward plate produces a more horizontal push. A deciduous tree is invariably uprooted, and the type of soil will have considerable effect on the size of the tree that can be pushed over. In the Reichswald it was found that a Churchill tank would push over a beech tree of 9 inches diameter but failed to push over a tree of 1 foot diameter. Crashing through trees at high speed is not feasible, as the shock of the impact breaks off the tops of the trees which fall on the commander’s head. - - - - end of quote - - - - Interesting that the tanks could make it through the Reichswald. Are all the trees in CMAK/BB tall pines larger than 2 ft in diameter? And the deciduous trees must be greater than 1ft diameter.
  17. A 1000 words... good, A 1000 screen shots  ...better, way better.
  18. I was thinking about using Mappping Mission to create a large (10k X 10k) campaign map. Then select 2sqkm sections to create the CMBB battle maps. The purely fictional map I started has a major N/S river with a large city on the river. I kinda looks like a small Stalingrd.
  19. Captured tanks, I think not. CMBB will be basically unchanged except for the interface with CMC. Will abandoned tanks be treated the same as abandoned tanks in a regular CMBB operation? Control the area and they can come back after a few battles. A battalion or regiment of POWs. Cool. I wonder how many will surrender at the Stalingrad campaign.
