  1. Thanxs for some off the input but things are a little off what I asked originally. I meant when a Carrier locks itself in a port it's deadly! It's not only deadly but nearly impossible to attack. The way that England and France are arranged allows for direct strikes using the Carrier in the London Port usually not taking much of a loss on any strike it does! It's unrealistic cause what's the difference between a carrier in a Port and outside a port? AA guns? Coastal Artillery, higher supply? Carriers are supposed to be massive Supply Launching ships for AirCraft anyways. Usually they pull everything from Egypt use their bid and and a premature invasion of Ireland to mass 4 fighters 1 bomber. 1 French fighter, HQ 3 Carriers on the coast with Germany making the War for Brest a very hard one indeed. It's a killzone you end up with that you can't survive unless you're very crafty! Especially if you're trying to pursue running Frogs How do we defend against this. The high supply in the two Allied Ports bonus the Carriers and up in Norway similarly. You can't strike on the opposite Side without HEAVY losses it's redicilious As far as Carriers in North Atlantic I'm not sure I heard much about it. Anything with size especially. I thought most of that would be moved to face the Japs anyways...If you're going to give the Brits these bonuses early Okay, but I think that something should be thrown in to balance things. I.E. a German Bomber... Represent their massive dive-bomber squadrons Who was the 1 stuka pilot who independantly killed 500 Russian tanks? And that was an obsolete piece of junk!
  2. What, cheating? That stuff doesn't exist LOL Better becareful, all we need is to give these people ideas. Moderators
  3. In real war you need amphibious Craft to land on enemy beaches. Transports are completely different and shouldn't even be considered the same device. Transport Craft would just get you to a friendly port. Though you need a craft that is has a flat bed, you need ground that's fairly good for landings, usually that costs extra and should be represented as a seperate unit. As the Germans didn't have much amphibious capabilities and would take them a bit extra as well as the Allies to dip into Britian/France... Which is just too easy... The Russians as far as I know had Nill in that department but in this game they can be used as the Corp O Death at Sea... Really unrealistic Airpower, how to balance it.. Simple, change the aircraft types. Fighters didn't have the explosive capabilities that bombers/divebombers/medium bombers/fighterbombers had... and a certian amount of fighters can destroy any unit in the game. That's unrealistic. Usually to strafe and bomb a target<aside from an airfield> fighters went low and slow where they weren't as effective for accuracy. Fighters were mainly used for fighter superiority missions, escort missions, and airfield attack with bombers in tow. Expand the capability of the bomber and fighter as a duel role to fix the problem. I'll admit fighters especially American ones wreaked havoc on Trains, tanks and other units but mostly towards the end of the War. They were specially fitted and designed for one purpose. As there wasn't much German Air to dedicate to specailized roles anymore they'd lost air superiority.
  4. I had this used recently. I don't like it, at all! If the Allies does it right he can not only take Bari but move 2 junk corps in to help destroy the fleet in one turn by encirclement. Boring, because if the Italians saw a fleet of warships off their coast<that were Allied,ESPECIALLY that many> War would be imminent! Not just them either!!! Hitler had to do Barbarossa in secret and many other plans also. Whenever their was the lack of surprise it costs... Neutral nations should have limited abilities to rellocate their forces within their own borders...to sum it up...there is no way you could move that many ships in secret right up under the Italians Nose...The Med-Movement needs to be tweaked properly for Italian Entry.. You allow France to buy HQs, dismember fleets, escape with it's entire Army to England<an obvious bug> I think we should have a law about the French Army even though I don't mind it's a very foolish move! Gives me plenty of time to expand fast and destroy the Hell out of the Allies for cheap worthless armies..<too expensive to mantain>

  6. the two invasions were very easy for Germany in the game they're a task you're right John
  7. goto the strategic command directory and open up Campaign editor and inside open the file, i.e. Fall Weiss 1939. and inside one of the first menu options is to edit country starting levels after that save under a different name like Fall Weiss spec 1939. exit there you go... launch that and it will work like butter
  8. excellent postings! The Allies had a very hard time getting landings that's why D-Day was put off! It was rare to get good weather in Europe. The Germans Had great benifits from gaining Norway as they could get their weather balloons up further north and see much more that was incoming... I know during the Battle of Bulge Conditions were quite harsh and often even with superior airpower in Europe itself it was hard to truely use it... You couldn't see anything, let alone find your target! As was 1941 one of the harshest Russian Winters in history<hmmmm, wonders> Maybe it was a Gift from God aye?
  9. Guys I have to admit though in the flight models I've done in Dos/Windows whatever. I remeber really loving the feel of the Zeke. You could roll it on a dime. You could out-turn anything in existence. Poor ammo and durability, it was a flying Kite. Reminds you a lot of what a Fokker Triplane reacts like from the 1st World War. I think that the high speed Corsairs/P-51s came down with these new tactics at high alts and pounced the Zekes instead of attempting to engage them foolishly in a stalefight. Which was the old traditional type of combat. Even so... If you had to put me at low alts... I'd take the Zeke... You have to run in the faster craft to avoid being engaged...there's no way out of a turnfight with a Zeke..A great pilot preserves his ammo and waits for the enemy to get lower and slower until he bleeds him dry and only shoots at close range where the Zekes guns have maximum damage and accuracy. However in these 51s/47s/and Corsairs ammo wasn't a problem the Americans built them sturdy and tough. You could dive down hammer and miss and redo it 20 times until you ran dry of ammo... I would still take a Spitfire above the American fighters although. She can keep pace with them on many alts!!!
  10. I agree John, the early presence of Jet fighters working in conjunction with regular prop aircraft would have done some damage. You can maximize the pros and cos of both craft, especially with jets in that early development phaze. I'm pretty certian the ME262 that was turned into a fighter-bomber on Hitler's orders would've came out in pretty sufficient #s had they really dedicated the time into it. Plus the 109s were a very weak opponent vs the US & UK Fighters from about 1941 on. Funny enough the most produced fighter and yet they couldn't really come up with a true replacement. As the 109 was never replaced completely. Similar mistakes with Stukas and no real bomber command for the Germans. It seems that Goering and others were stalling their aircraft designs before they ever got of the assembly line. I have to admit the P-51D Mustang was a superb Weapon along with the F4U1D...A corsair even shot down a Mig during the Korean War as to show you how capable those props were!
  11. The Aerodynamic Flying Wing is a great achievement. Plenty of lift! Right size and bombload to carry hell to where ever you want... I think that Fighters and Missiles have taken over bombers... There's no more need ot have a heavy bomber when you can send it without risk.. i.e. towmissile, cruise, smart bombs, unmanned aerial craft, etc...
  12. No matter some of the best fighters are designs that are 30 years old. We took a lot from the Nazis in Aircraft design but we've skyrocketed since. I would say the Americans are at the forefront of Aircraft design now... It didn't matter in WW2 however the German's though scientific<and some of their aviator designers ahead of their time> were held up by a #s of factors. As mentioned before... The 1941 Barbarossa in this isn't very strong. I've played the scenario and you're barely able to achieve your goals<against a real oponent>. People tend to forget after Stalin's great Purges there was little or no chance of defending from a Proffessional Army like Germany had a available. if you were to line up any Army in 1941 to do all out War... I think Germany would've been first... the Americans wouldn't take that place for a few years. I'm uncertain how a fully mobilized US and USSR at WW2 tech would have came out...Alone without assistance... No Winter, No harsh terrain... of course since all these things are factors unless we rewind the tape back before Stalin's Great Purges we have no idea what's going to happen. Perhaps he could've expanded before Hitler face! You can't kill 'nearly' all your officers and expect to be able to lead an Army. I think with the Italians we've shown that leadership is 90% of it. Germans/Americans & Brits were the only ones to have much in leadership early. Even Zhukov was killed by Stalin? German spies teehee
  13. Yes! I've watched a recent program myself on the Luftwaffe Jet Fighters. Some of the designs with swept wings and even cheap alternative fuel as was used with the V-1 Rockets available with the engines on the top of the 'craft were impressive and ahead of their time. Mousillini was going to be rescued by one of the first helicopters designed by the Nazis. They were at the forefront of Aircraft design. As was Japan from some of the exchanges and even improved upon some of the basic designs. Of course too little too late
  14. I have very poor reaction VS Carriers. Regardless of readiness and supply. Especially the UK manuever to London SeaPort... Any suggestionss? At times that one carrier can knock down a HQed German fighter 8 points... Lately the Brits forget the Med and move all their carriers into the Channel for intercept missions for France Delaying anything for Germany for quite awhile. With a bid britian can also place an HQ down and another fighter by Fall of France and with all her carriers in the N.Sea hammering away at the Brest Port it's a killzone for German units...German air has poor abilities in that direction...
  15. Even though the Jet Program in Germany was far ahead of other nations. I still don't know how practical those particular designs would've been as early as they could've employed them. Usually it takes awhile to make modifications to the planes and tactics in order to make something new useful. i.e. the German U-boats were far better suited to Raiding Merchant Marines than to supporting Battleships. Though a small # still would be valuable for recon & Fire support. We didn't even truely use the full capability of the jet until 1950s Korea... So I'm stiill a bit shakey about the German Jet project having turned the tide all the way. However the German's had ingenuity and they would've probably adapted faster than most nations to make something of what they had! Also to take into consideration early jets did not make Props completely obsolete. Though for the most part #s would still rule out Superior quality... As it did say with the Sherman tank vs Panthers. Poor Germany... She had so many brilliant minds and ideas and a few quacky leaders... She really could've possibly ruled Europe and a large portion of the World without those faults... Had she waited and the Allies would've remained unprepared for a War. Say 1947? Regardless on the point: Russia was overrun faster than this game allows and many historical cities are represented on the map! I find usually a good Russian can delay the siege of Kharkov Rostov/southern Ukraine Mines until some time in 1942 and if by that time you've not made headway you may not succeed at all. Also considering the Allies mobilize quite hastily for a D-Day landing the Germans are usually pushed hard in 1942 by the Allies and must put Air against the Naval supremacy of the Allies or Land strength of the US quickly to stop Iraq or Norway/Sweden from falling. That's if she achieved sub-average dominance...
  16. As mentioned before it would probably take a million men to support 2 million in combat. One take can man a crew of 5. Medium bombers a higher # and divebombers 2...Plus engineers and maintenance men on the ground to fix, refuel and coordinate flight control. Those leaders too old for combat but skilled and of sound mind to draw out battle orders, support units from a safe distance. Medical detachments...and so forth We must also take into consideration though not represented in the game every hex<depending where it is> requires a police force and even the supply runners can be quite numerous... Otherwise you'd never hold the territory you conquored nor be able to supply armies as they proceeded forwards. The Plunder is barely enough the way the game is run Ahistorically allowing for British/Russian/US Invasion of Free Nations... Ireland/Iraq/Portugal/Sweden and so forth. Also the fact that U-boats don't play a roll at all. SO the British/French Navies have one roll. One is to bombard the hell out of Germany and protect Britian. The other is to be disbanded right away and turned into a Headquarters/or extra corps/armies. Plus morale is no factor you know what a corps ordered to go sit on a hex to die would feel like? Or run supply out Only the bravest soldiers wouldn't surrender Perhaps the game should take into consideration the many unique unit types available<their pros and cons> rather than alter anything else first! i.e. British had the best fighters in Europe. The US had the best Bombers. Germans had the capability to develop jet aircraft before anyone. Russians had more numerous units than anyone.
  17. Tweedle Dee<Allies.165> Defeats Liam<Axis> Grtgame! Russia and Germany fought it out in Sweden for the victory...The Americans and Italians Fought it out on the Ocean. Pretty close until Allied Expansion and until the newly upgraded luftwaffe was overrun by massive #s of Red Army troops. Nearly 500 thousand Russians lost their lives and 7 thousand German Aircraft and their pilots payed the ultimate price to come to Concede to the Obviously more Powerful Allies just for control of the Scandanavian Mountains Forests and Tundra...
  18. Tweedle Dee beats Liam Tweedle had Allies<165> Liam Had Axis This was fun...He fought hard!
  19. Waltero<100bid Allies> Defeats Liam<Axis> Kewl game. Cut through to Paris and we had a true Mediteranean war. Though the Italian fleet was never in place to add to the frey
  20. wachmeister beast liam Meister was Allies with 175 Mpps
  21. Liam defeats CvM<allies> CvM had a 125 Bid and conceded I had tech 4 Industrial, tech 4 Jets. All Minors accept Canada/Turkey...& Malta
  22. bid of a 100<terif> defeats Liam<axis> I did real good in France but after that
  23. Hey Bill, What're you doing from A&A Club. Maybe I should suspend you for poor usage of British resources! <TheCursedSoul> Britian has two major options. Pull back and let US and Tech advantages play into effect. Attempt with all her might to hold out in The Suez by destroying the Italian fleet in an early ploy. Either way. Iraq is essential whenever the US enters. I find the smart Ally, keeps enough held back to make Sea Lion futile. When Germany starts placing it resources on the Minor Front she hassles supply and does constant landings all over. Britian really is a go between for Russia and the US...
  24. Zapp... You're missing a report! Liam beat CroPanzer <bid of 125 CroPanzer beat Liam <bid of 125 Waltero beats Liam with a bid of 125
