  1. "You may have been reading too much Rudel." LOL.....now thats comedy!
  2. Compared to some other games CMBO and CMBB look dated(graphic wise). It's the game play...and the attention to detail that makes these games the best! I still play board games like "Africa Korps" "ASL",ect...and I don't see "counters"...I see AFV's...soldiers,ect! I enjoy my CMBO and CMBB on a P3-866...although I have a Alien P-4 2.5 sitting in my "War Room"!( for the FPS games). Hell with "cutting edge" machines!...as long as the game is playable at a reasonable rate....I'm a happy camper!
  3. "Food for thought"........I keep an AMD-266...and a 486-66 around just for the older great wargames! Look around in the newspapers....online..ect. They can be had for under 50 dollars and are great for playing the older games.
  4. "Panzer Aces" is a good book covering all the fronts in WW2.
  5. Note.....if you still have dialup...or if you don't want to spend hours downloading all the mods that come with CMBO-SE...then it's a great bargin! Bill
  6. There are also sound mods that are automatically installed with CMBO-SE. "Modding" your game is really up to you...as we all have different tastes in what looks more authentic. I will recommend the mods by "Andrew" and "Juju" just because their attention to detail is amazing!
  7. Just wonderful Andrew! I have been collecting your mods on a disc...just so I have the best in case my computer ever gives out! Thanks again!
  8. In the book "Panzer Aces" it seems when the first T-34's appeared that the command of the tank was left up to the gunners? Can anyone explain this better.....seems odd that with a restricted view that the gunner had.. how was this of any use? [ August 26, 2003, 05:48 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  9. Strange but the CDV version of CMBB will appear in your "add/remove" programs but the CDV version of CMBO-SE will not, because you do have to install that program manually.
  10. It seems that some feel that the mods in the retail version and the added scenarios are not worth the 30 dollars? What about the new player to CM who just happened to see it in the store? Should he spend hundreds of hours downloading the mods and extra scenarios to save...what? What does CM cost now if we order it from Battlefront?(without the mods and the extra scenarios). 30 dollars for CM-SE is a steal for the new and old player(with a 56K modem). I also thank all the scenario designers and modders who contributed to CM-SE. Battlefront and CDV should be commended for working together and keeping the price low. Bill And if Battlefront wants to send me CMAK early I'll pay twice the price and both my nuts!!!(sorry honey)! [ August 25, 2003, 06:22 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  11. Although the CM games account for most of my gaming I still enjoy the great FPS games, and the ones in the works. That is why I recomended the D875 board and the P4. I'm not sure about your question conserning types of Ram. As far as the Geforce 4....keep it! We all have different opinions on what is the best hardware... so make sure you shop around before you decide on what to purchase. Bill PS...I would like to hear what "Schrullenhaft" recomends.
  12. Even in a 50 turn game it just would not seem logical to try to reload an AFV in battle. This "reloading" is common in RTS games like Sudden Strike, Blitzkrieg",ect...but in a tactical game like CM is not logical or realistic. Just my 2 cents! Bill
  13. Hey, we all like to upgrade when we can. I guess it would depend on what kind of games you enjoy. Me personally.......I would keep the Win 98E just because it's the most stable for gaming. As far as a 3D card....stay away from the new "FX" cards or the Radeon"Pro" cards! A Geforce 4 is a nice upgrade if you want to keep your CM games running well. A nice processer is the Intel P4 3.3 GHZ (800 meg FSB)and a Intel D875 motherboard. That is about all I would have in mind for an upgrade that would play "all" games well and not compromise my CM games. Good Luck Bill [ August 24, 2003, 02:46 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  14. Simple.....Win XP was designed for "office applications"...not gaming. Win 98E Win ME are good for "intertainment" software. PS.............. Win XP also has problems with CDV games (CMBO-SE) because of the "safe disk" copy protection. [ August 24, 2003, 09:50 AM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  15. Lets see.......I have gotten hundreds, if not thousands of hours from CMBO and CMBB.....40 dollars for CMAK?........how about my left nut? If I ever win the lottery Steve,Dan,Matt,ect..you guys all get to pick out new Ferrari's!
  16. I agree with Dieseltaylor! When the AVF is hit and knocked out it takes time for the shocked crew to abandon the vehicle....and help get the wounded to safety. At least that is how I look at it. Micro-management does not belong in a tacticle wargame! Next we may be looking at fuel consuption....potty-breaks...or heaven help us....having to farm to produce units!!!!
  17. I would suggest looking into another monitor. I had the same thing happen on my 15" monitor a year ago......did it a few times during play about everytime I played for about a month..Then one day it was just a black screen....had a buddy look at it....turned out it was fried! Good Luck
  18. Oh yeah!......thats a Badboy! I bet everytime you fire that puppy it blows the spider gears out of the rearend and becomes disabled!
  19. Andrew..........you really don't want me to "PLAY" CM on my day off do you?.....downloading again with my snail (56K).
  20. Yep!........that 109 took one in the radiator! Ha ha!. My fond memories of that M3 letting loose with both barrels at the same time as the Germans came over the dunes is a war movie classic! [ August 19, 2003, 05:50 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  21. Hey!..........my dad took me to see the movie "Sahara" about 40 years ago! I want the M3! Then I'll blow the doors off your "spagetti" truck....
  22. Note.....Armored trains are in the game "Sudden Strike 2"....armored cars with T-34 turrets...rocket launchers...navel guns...ect. This is a WW2 "beer and pretzels" RTS game...not a tactical masterpiece like the CM games....but still fun. As far a CM...well probley not.
  23. "I don't know what the hell happened"! I woke up this morning....told my wife I would be playing some CM on my day off....spending an hour in the "Tinkletoriam" reading my new issue of PC Gamer.....but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!I have to go online...see Jorge's new uniforms....download them....have lunch.. check online...and here are Andrews new uniform mods!!!...gotta have them! I hope you guys know your spoiling my day off! PS....nice work Andrew!
  24. Although CM games are mentioned thoughout the article this is the caption over the top of the picture with a Sherman and the Lee. "The next chapter of 3D wargaming(Combat Mission Africa Korps) will march the venerable World War II series into parts of the Mediterranean Theater, including the sandy deserts of North Africa, the Italian mountains, and the island of Crete. Battles and operations will be designable, and custommizable using the full editor built right into the game. Using the same engine powering CMBB, CMAK will also introduce multi-turreted tanks, and dust clouds from explosions and advancing vehicles. The game should be finished in Q4 2003 and available for purchase. There is also a nice picture of a "Crusader" kicking up dust as it moves across the desert! I"ll ask my wife to "scan' the pictures this week and try to get them posted. [ August 19, 2003, 02:25 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  25. Hey all! Just got my new PC Gamer yesterday with a 3 page article called "So you want to be a wargamer" by Bill Trotter. Not a bad little piece.....but when I saw some screen shots of the "M3 Lee" I almost wet my pants! Dang!.....CMAK looks good!
