  1. I am withdrawing from the forum. It seems obvious to me that BFC has given certain members of the forum the right to do whatever they desire whenever, wherever and to whoever they want. Further, any who challenge these "elite few" are threatened, warned or removed from the forum. Why Mr. Grammont and his employees allow this to continue is something I cannot understand. After challenging the views of these few I saw my country insulted repeatedly and have seen BFC do NOTHING to punish the offenders. Quite the contrary. When I asked Mr. Grammont to, at least, review the threads he responded by threatening me with removal from the forum and admonished me for "wasting his time." I accuse BFC and Mr. Grammont of blatantly "playing favourites". Why they do this, I do not know, but it is repulsive. Micheal Dorosh, Berlichtingen, Andreas and Micheal Emrys it would seem, have been given permission to do as they see fit including conduct public stonings of those who disagree with their views. Their insulting manner seems to be a result of the impunity they have been given by BFC. Being "untouchable", these few can hurl all the insults and slurs they desire in the knowledge that they always have the "trump card" of being protected by BFC and its minions. I denounce these people as cowards and accuse Mr. Grammont of hypocrisy. I refuse to participate in this forum until I receive a FULL apology from Mr. Grammont for his irresponsible and shameful behaviour

  5. Since it's entirely possible you missed it, I will repeat my last words to you. Go to hell. Without the protection you receive you're not worth spit.
  6. Yeah, situated as I am near the border I am in an excellent position to observe the lively trade in smuggled synthetics. "Agreeable Alice" seems to be the favorite of the month with "Submissive Sal" running a close second. Michael </font>
  7. Man, I go away for a week and you guys are pulling the same stunt with another "stalker". Look, the gang's all here. Dorosh , Berlichtingen ,etc. Who are you picking on this time and shall I hazard a guess at the tactics you've chosen to discredit him? What a coincidence! The same things you've said to me and to many others. Do you guys travel in packs for protection or to for higher quality "praying on the weak." Disgusting behaviour. Berlichtingen , I'm sending BFC a suggestion. I hope your little #40 is truly the shield you think it is. I might have overreacted a little with Andreas, but if filth like you is allowed to fire shots like your little "plastic companionship" comment at random I shudder to imagine what the forum will become. Is this the end product of a military education? Glad I missed that bus. Micheal Emrys , I'm truly shocked! I thought you to be above this kind of behaviour. Being a bit hypocritical here, again, aren't we? [ October 04, 2003, 04:34 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
  8. I don't think this would be easy to portray using existing AI capabilities. So many of the decisions made on the battlefield boil down to gut instinct, experience or luck. CM, by its nature, relaxes battlefield stress to an almost laughable degree. I mean that not as an insult, but as an observation. CM allows you to stop, pause, think, consider, change view points, scan over the terrain, gingerly stroll about the land while bullets suspended in the air wait for time to continue flowing, etc. Most of what you are referring to is a result of not having time to think through and/or a lack of intelligence (pun!). Imagine this scene. That NVA tank gets hit. The top pops open and a man comes out waving a white flag. The battle stops. Several uniformed men come out onto the bridge while the AT crew patiently observes them. The NVA calmly discuss the situation while one of them chats with his girlfriend on Messenger. After a few minutes they decide that it was simply a lucky shot and go back to their positions. The tank commander climbs back up and, just before slamming shut the hatch, waves the flag again. The battle starts. The armoured column advances, takes a few mosquito bites while laughing like hyenas in their tanks, crosses the bridge and obliterates the enemy. My point, as long-winded as it has become, is that you are talking about a very real phenomena, but also one which would be next to impossible to model in CM. I'm not critical of your idea. Actually I think it's a very important point, but I think CM would have to be changed dramatically to be able to allow for these kinds of events. So dramatically that it might actually become a different game. [ October 04, 2003, 05:32 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
  9. Why not? (separate) Friendly Fire, I don't think you'll see this in CMAK, but I sincerely hope you see it in CMX2. It's a pretty good idea. Actually, if you search you might find the other thread where this point was discussed. I recommend it to you for light reading. Some of the arguments "against" are comical.
  10. CMMOS is good if you want to test a mod before using it. Not everything is CMMOS compliant, but there are some excellent mods available that you can download and try out without ever having to make a permanent change to your sacred BMP file. I think CMMOS will be included in the special edition. CMBB looks pretty good as is. I haven't changed a thing yet except using the low resolution grass and such to improve game play on my near extinct graphics card. Am I a mod slut? I modded CMBO until it looked like Grand Theft Auto. Then I realized I had gone too far.

And who gets to be the judge of what is what? Perhaps you would like to volunteer for the position. "We all need to have a little of the air let out of us once in a while, and I tend to mistrust those who can't take a bit of gentle ribbing once in a while. But as I say, that is a different matter from trying to hurt someone innocent of wrongdoing. A line needs to be drawn and recognized, and sometimes that's hard to do. Those who push "political correctness" (and I think that label too gets misapplied often times) may sometimes be overzealous and puritanical at times, but they have a point and for the time being I prefer to err on the side of tolerance." You prefer to err on the side of tolerance? Since when? "Which is to say, I myself find nothing intrinsically wrong with ethnic humor..." Thankfully the civilized world disagrees with you. But, why stop at "ethnic" humour? I see nothing intrinsically wrong with making fun of the handicapped...and on and on. "...but I tend to shy away from it unless I am confident that everyone within earshot is going to understand it in the spirit with which it is offered." And if, even with all your care and caution, someone does take it "the wrong way"? Would they have the right to confront you reasonably expecting an explanation or an apology? Being a bit hypocritical here, aren't we, Emrys? [ October 04, 2003, 03:00 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
  12. There is? I thought it was only me that had the "low tolerance". Wow, shucks, aw jeez, galdarnit! Does that mean some of you ole bos was just havin me on? Oh, and a side note. Gamax, I know what you are trying to say and agree with you on the adjustable morale thing (for everyone and not just the Italians). Don't take this stuff seriously. There's a lot of bored old timers hanging around who will pick fights over nothing just to fight. As far as your "nemesis" is concerned, ignore him. He's not making an effort to read your posts so why waste your time. [ October 04, 2003, 02:52 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
  13. It helps quite a bit. Thanks for the time. BTW, in the end I couldn't get those bunkers to stick, but I don't think it takes too much away from the game. The small sacrifice is worth it to play the extended battles.
  14. I had an idea the other day and just wanted to run it by you. I played a battle on a medium map and only managed to take one flag of four while not even passing midway on the field. Hating the thought of wasting the map, I decided to play a continuation of the battle. Initially I thought it would be far too complicated, but it hasn't proven to be very hard. The most difficult thing is making sure the pillboxes and bunkers stay in the right places and keeping track of replacements and OOBs. After a few tries I worked out a system which allows me to fight 2-4 battles on a medium-sized map. The new system is great, but not very compatible with Biltaid (except for keeping track of core units, determining weather and producing a few random variables). My only major problem is the determination of replacements. I've come up with some simplified equations to make this faster, but really I just don't know enough about the ETO to make accurate judgements. Could you give me a few pointers? What could be done to realistically determine replacements and reinforcements? [ September 27, 2003, 02:26 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
  15. Another good question from a relative newcomer met with a barrage of silliness. Makes you wonder why they even bother asking. I think the answer to the question is this. It could be done and probably will be (at some point), but would require a massive overhaul of the game engine. BFC is not a big company (when compared to others like Ubi) and simply does not have the time to overhaul the engine and do everything else they need to do to put out new titles as often as they must to compete. Think about what would be needed to model every soldier on the field. I'm not talking about processor speed, but rather game mechanics. It would not just require a larger unit, but rather a whole new set of models, motions, uniforms, weapons, actions, formations, equipment and a thousand other things. On top of that you add the necessary AI changes, the inevitable glitches, the capacity for independant motion and separate roles (all the men in a squad do not do the same thing) and you get a big project. Considerably more daunting than coding dust clouds and new AFVs. Basically, a game engine, using existing technology and being accessible to the average user, could be designed to do what you suggest, but it could not be done in CM without radical changes. Maybe in CMX2? [ September 27, 2003, 02:05 AM: Message edited by: Cabron66 ]
