  1. Like Jarmo said....stay away from the new FX cards(nothing but problems). Any of the cards mentioned will work well with the CM games. I like using my old Geforce 2 MMX card on my P-3 866 and CMBB runs very well( the only time my map scrolling is a bit slow is when there is lots of smoke...I just turn it off).If your on a budget the Geforce 2 32 meg card runs about 20 dollars now! I would also get more ram......about 128 megs more would be good! Good luck! [ July 03, 2003, 08:05 AM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  2. For all of you commanders out there with the CDV version of CMBB your patching problems can all be solved with a nice e-mail to CDV. I just got a CD from CDV with all 3 patches for CMBB. For those who have dial-up (77% of us do) and don't have hours to download the patches they will send you a patch CD with all the patches for all their current games free of charge! Now THAT is product support! Thanks CDV and Battlefront for working with them!
  3. Actually I believe that is a product of sabotage by the Polish slave workers in Germany during the war!!!
  4. " What did you expect destroyers"! ( Robert Redford in "A Bridge To Far" when he saw the boats his men had to use to cross the river).
  5. This past weekend I fired up the old( but it works!) 486-66 up at my cabin and reloaded an old Talonsoft game( Battleground #4 Shiloh) and was reminded of how Talonsoft had a habit of adding patches from their previous games to their new game CD"s in that series. That was nice! Did not have to download....and when you ever reloaded the game you always had the patches on hand! With CMBB we have to download the patches in order 1-2-3 for them to work right and on "Dial-up" that takes hours! With about 77% of computers still using dial-up I was wondering if maybe CMAK can have previous patches for both CMBO and CMBB included on the CD? It can't be that hard and would sure be welcome to those of us who may have to reload any of the CM games in the future. Just an Idea............
  6. WW2 online???? I don't care if the 100th patch makes it fun or not.....any game that is released intentionally unfinished and unplayable will never be on my hard drive or take up any of my wargaming time! I would much rather play "Barbies GI Nurse" then any game put out by a company that Butt-F#%*ked everyone who ran out and bought the first release of that coaster!
  7. Well thanks alot Zimorodok !!!!!! Just when I thought I had my winter AFV'S the way I wanted them.....you have to come up with these great looking AFV's. I don't know if I want to shoot you or send you a case of beer! Nice work!
  8. Although not a book just focusing on Kursk the book "Panzer Aces" does give some good individual accounts of the battle.
  9. Welcome! The CMBO-SE already has the new terrain and sounds when you installed it. The mods included with the CD ( have to be installed manually) as far as new "skins" for the AFV's are some of the best by some of the best modders. There are so many nice mods out there you just have to check them....and add what fits your fancy. Enjoy!
  10. Thanks for the info MikeT! Keep us updated on the final program!
  11. When you install CMBO-SE the terrain and sound mods are installed automactically. The other mods have to be installed manually so you can pick the ones you like. If you look in your CMBO folder( after installation) you will find the file "mods" and can look threw them and read the "docs" about them.
  12. I cut my teeth on CMBB...so when I bought CMBO I was very disapointed by the outdated graphics. Well....thanks to all the great modders my CMBO looks just as good or in some cases better! Although new vehicals can't be added by the modders, some of the new "skins" make the original vehicals look like new additions to the game. It takes alot of work to mod your game, but that is what make the CM games the best you can buy.....period! Have fun!
  13. Hi! CMMOS is a good program if you want to add new skins to the vehicals...different sky textures ect, but you still retain the original textures that came with the game and can be changed back over with the program. If you intend on modding your game, but are not sure which textures to change then CMMOS is a must. If you just want to change the original textures for good then just download the new skins you want( although you are changing the original BMP files). 14. Welcome to the board Guderian 129! The easiest way to start modding your CMBO is to download some new terrain ( Madmatt's hi-res grass is a good start. Once you have better looking terrain the rest is fun and easy! I like to look threw the screen shots of the differnt vehical skins at Combat Mission HQ......then I play a "Quick Battle" and pick out the vehicals that I thought looked good modded and see if I would rather have the modded vehicals in my game instead of the original( the modded ones are 100 times better). Just enjoy your game and take the modding slowly and back up your BMP files in case you make a mistake!
  15. Sounds like you have some Russian blood in you Black Max! I bet you were one of those Soviet tank commanders in an afterlife, using your tank as a battering ram!
  16. I have both the Battlefront CMBO and the CDV CMBO and the CDV version does not play any intro video except the CDV logo.
  17. Why go to XP?.......Your using an OS designed for office applications! Win 98E is the most stable and compatible OS to date! Just my 2 cents!
  18. Once again.....CDV does have an excellent support staff! If you email GregorBellmann@cdv.com, he can send you a CD with the patch for CMBB. I still have dialup and have recieved patches for all my CDV games. I don't know of any company that will take the time and effort like CDV does. 19. My wife is very supportive of my wargaming! As a rock musician back in the 70's and 80's I was always gone from home on the weekends and sometime during the week. In the 90's we both started to share a large room with 4 computers and her sewing machines. We love to kick back together and enjoy our hobbies. she would much rather have me home then on the road or playing late on the weekends! 2 of the computers are hers( she is a autocad teacher at John Deere). Can't get any better! [ June 23, 2003, 04:35 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  20. I have never bought a strategy guide for any game so far. I have always prefered to reason out problems or my strategy in my wargames. After many hours of trying to figure the best way to win a battle....I would feel as if I had cheated if I used someone elses strategy to win. Just the way I have played wargames for 40 years. As long as the player is enjoying the game, then whatever works for their style of playing in fine! I'll save my 15 dollars for CMAK! [ June 23, 2003, 04:20 PM: Message edited by: Panzertruppe ]
  21. If you go to EB Games website.....look up CMBO-SE you will find some great reviews by some professional game reviewers and the public. As far as reviewing a game that is unchanged?....I believe that now CMBO is available at retail stores, the newbee, or the gamer who was turned off by the dated graphics from the early demo will be more likely to buy the game with the hi-res graphics....better sound..and the included mods. This edition needs to be reviewed because of the new additions, and because the game is availble in most stores now.
  22. What?................IF IT WORKS DON"T FIX IT!.....unless we can have pics of naked ladies posing with AFV's!
  23. If you have the "special" edition then the sound and terrain graphic mods are installed automactically. They are so much better then the original game. As far as other mods.....I personally would just start playing the game, and when you see a tank or vehical that your not happy with go to a site like "Combat Mission HQ" and search the files....check out the screen shots and find new mod that grabs your fancy. Just make sure you back-up your original BMP game files in case you make a mistake.Take your time, because there are hundreds of good mods out there. Enjoy your game!
  24. At home after work......CMBO...CMBB...Panzer Elite. Online ( with beer and pretzels) Sudden Strike 1&2....Day Of Defeat.....Blitzkrieg(fun little game)......and..PBEM CMBB. When I go up to the cabin on the weekend I like to fire-up the old 486-66 and play....Steel Panthers....Great Navel Battles 1 2&3....and, (don't laugh)...Duke Nukem!
  25. Time is short M8! Anything that Big Time or Battlefront releases will run well right out of the box! I know how you feel about patches,ect....but i would have gone "nuts" if I waited until any patches came out for CMBB!
