  1. Nice pictures Mike, Going to get some glossy pictures done tomorrow of the pictures I took of the Tiger. I'll never be short of christmas presents to dish out to relatives now, everyone gets an original print of a work or art!! Mark
  2. Sure thing, Just thinking though, it might be more exciting by having only a couple of superpowers. The choice of minor naval players in this war is quiet good. Just look at the Med/Adriatic/Black Sea alone! Even out the far east you could have good fun with squadrons of RN, RAN, IJN, Germanyand the odd srpinkling of dodgey Russian ships running around the tropics. Mark
  3. Good point Arthur, I suppose with WW I it would be down to the ships and thats it! no aircraft or radar. but how would we far out there for chossing which nations to have in the original game. Two majors that would have to be in would be Germany and England. After these two everyone else might struggle to list two other major navies that could and did put large fleets into combat. Mark.
  4. I was playing a CMAK scenario last week and I has convinced myself that engineers could clear barbed wire. It only after having two sections of engineers fumble around in wire for about 8 turns did I realise that it was all in my head. So J-Sun I know how you feel, getting all worked up with a masterful plan at hand and yet the only flaw is the thick head of the guy the came up with the plan. Mark
  5. Out of all the sail fighting game s I have played they seem to me that they quiet get it right. They are either over simplified or they been so hard aginst the AI (because the AI is a master navigator that knows to the tenth of a degree how close he can sail with the wind) that you don't have a long life expectancy. I'm quiet happy to see a realy good WW II sim come out, with flat tops and land based planes. The only good WW II ship sim I have played and still now then is SSIs' FIGHTING STEEL. A great game that was made better by the NWP guys patches. But now it is getting old plus it was limited by the nations involved, the lack of airpower, land in any of the maps and it only went as far and Dec 1942. Take the sails in and full steam ahead on the engines I say!! Mark
  6. The Tiger was out alright and it made one lap of the track and then parked again. It didn't sound too healthy and some of the guys were saying that it's engine hadn't all it's cylinders connected and so firing. Still it was a pretty impressive display from the old beast. When the show was over they invited people onto the track to get close ups of the tanks when they were not running. As the crowd thinned out they started to park the tanks. We all got an excellent view then of the Tiger reversing out of her parking spot and turning off towards the parking area. It was good as we were much closer to it than when it was running around the track. Loads of pictures of it (as did all the other guys) which I'd be happy to pass onto anyone.
  7. Cheers to everyone I met today at Bovington. A great day out! Mark
  8. My last attack against an enemy that was in trenches and had the protection of barbed wire went off pretty well. I set two good HMG positions with my Company CO in command of them. Alongside these was an artillery FO. Then out of view but commanded by the Company CO was three mortar units. (All HMG's CO & FO had LOS to Trenches). First in was a good 3 minute artillery barrage. As the barrage started I advanced my platoons, squeezing through then smallest of gaps in the wire. Anyone popped there head up at any time I got the HMG's and the indirect mortars on them. Once the artillery dried up and my boys were gettting close I layed down some smoke. I got the trench but it is tough going. That was my attempt at the trench and wire puzzle. Mark
  9. Anyone else on the 0930 from Waterloo on Sunday morning? Weather forecast is looking good for the weekend. Mark
  10. What was your scenario called ? Is it on The Scenario Depot? Mark
  11. Gian, thats right they do come from Ireland. I live in Cork and they come from Little Island just outside Cork. That is the publishers warehouse for euro distribution. Mark
  12. Micheal, Granted you could argue that the fact that the RN could not use the two treaty ports previously occupied by the British did cost the lives of seaman. However when Neville Chamberlain negotiated an agreement with Irish Prime Minister Eamon de Valera there was no concession to let the RN back in to them in times of conflict. I don't think it would have done much for our Neutrality if Allied ships were sailing in and out of Cork harbour. There was however plenty of instances when De Valera secertly helped out the British. He secertly allowed RAF sea planes to fly through an Irish air corridor on there way from Lough Neagh to the Atlantic, reducing their time flying into theatre. There was also many a downed Allied aircrew that were taken to the border and allowed to escape. Mark
  13. Just out of curiosity, whay do you think we (Ireland) were so annoying during the war?
  14. Should be on the same trains as your good self (assuming I don't go out saturday night)
  15. Ok cool, so we are to meet at the "Ugly Black Tank". Any sort of rough time? Anyone traveling from London that day?
  16. So is someone going to make a final decision as to where we might be able to meet?
  17. He probably saw a PzMK II and thought he could take it, but beware the 20MM cannon. ***POSSIBLE B&T HIGH NOON SPOILER**** B&T High Noon is lethal during the first few moves for unsuspecting Russain tankers. Those 20MM cannon armed PSW's, followed by the MK II's can really leave the Russain force in a mess. Isn't that right Edgars!!!
  18. Cheers lads for letting me hear both sides of this story, it's all news to me!!!

  20. What I do is move my squads in stages so that they are in a position to make a 30-40 metre dash. I then split that into an advance order for the first half and then an assault order for the second. I always try to have as much of the move along a covered route as is possible. If it's across open ground I have just gone for a direct assault for the whole distance, making sure there is plenty of support for the attacking squad and keeping the assault distance to a minimum to prevent the squad getting too tired and annoyed with me. I don't put the end of the assault move right on the enemy. If he is in a building then I go to another corner of the building. Or if he is in a treeline, then I just move to an adjacent part of that tree coverage. But always within 10-15 metres of the enemy. I have found that unless your enemy is weakened an assault led by one squad on another squad in any coverage will lead to high casaualties. The defender must be thoroughly supressed, lead the assault with two squads and have re-inforcements ready to follow up the attack. Thats the way I've been doing it, I'm sure there are loads more ways being attempted out there.
  21. I have found that your sharpshoter needs to be at least a veteran before you get your points worth out of him (a crack and you are in business). A regular or lesser sharpshooter and he doesn't have much luck. I had a sharpshooter take out a whole Platoon HQ, the remaining sqauds fell away easily once they were attacked. I will always go for at least 1 sharpshooter in QB, just leave him out to wander in the treelines and let him go to work.
  22. Would you say that CMBB covers this activity? I think that the partisans in the balkans were probably kitted out with a different weapons loadout than the partisans modelled inCMBB. Any comments guys?
