  1. I'm not too keen on experimenting to be honest. Did you or anyone you know try it?
  2. Interesting question. Can anyone tell me how to do that?
  3. System specs: AMD Athlon 1,5 Ghz processor 512 MB memory, lots of GB and an good Geforce card. DirectX 9.0 and latest drivers installed.
  4. I know I should post this in the Tech forum, but I don't get any response there. I have the following problem. I choose one of the huge scenarios, play as Germans, put the play balance for the Russians on 200%. Now this usually works, but sometimes the games simply freezes right after selecting 200%. When I select 200% for my own side (the Germans) I never have this problem. I know my system can handle this (it did so many times before), but from time to time I get this strange problem. Does anybody recognize this and even more important, is there an explanation/solution?
  5. Sometimes I like to see masses of tanks and other units and put the balance to 200% for the enemy. However sometimes the system doesn't seem able to handle it, other times it does. To increase my own units with 200% is never a problem, it is always the opponent. The game simply freezes. I don't think that it is my computer, I've got an AMD Athlon 1,5 Ghz processor 512 MB memory, lots of GB and an good Geforce card. Besides it usually works, but sometimes it doesn't. A strange problem, but can anybody tell me what it is?
  6. Personally I'm looking forward to Combat Leader (hasn't been mentioned yet, but it is more or less an improved version of Steel Panthers): http://www.matrixgames.com/Games/CombatLeader-EastFront/features.asp Furthermore CMAK, Rome Total War and Steel Beasts 2. Battlefield Command looks very good, but I sincerly doubt they will get the gameplay right. In IL-2 Stormowik Soviet planes are way too good and I doubt they can resist rewriting history again. I put my money on the new-engine CM-series, even when we have to wait for another two, three years.
  7. For a fascinating "what-if" on D-Day read "Disaster at D-Day" by Peter Tsouras. Well-researched and breathtaking. Rommel victorious in Normandy...
  8. I promised myself to make superb scenarios on operation Donnerschlag, Prochorowka, Charkow 1942/43, Werchne Kumski and lots of other interesing subjects, but somehow I do not have the discipline to finish any of them. I just started a thread on what kind of other games people here play and one of the reasons for that is that I realize that I have to concentrate more on the superb games like Combat Mission and FINISH for a change a scenario project. It is now summer in the Netherlands, but I promised myself (for the umpteenth time) to start working on it in the autumn and make a good scenario. I've played quite a lot of scenarios now and I know that making a balanced, interesting scenario is very, very difficult.
  9. I'm wondering what kind of games Combat Mission fans play besides Combat Mission. Personally I enjoy CMBO and CMBB the most, but I also enjoy playing Medieval Total War, Steel Panthers World at War, Steel Panthers MBT, Steel Beasts and IL-2 Stormowik. Is anybody for example still playing Panzer Commander? It's an old game, but as far as I know the only WW2 tank sim around. What games do YOU like? P.s. just for the record, Combat Mission is by far my favorite game on which I spent by far the most time, so no argument there.
  10. Yes, that is the solution to the problem. Thanks for your help Mike(s)!
  11. Very interesting, Malakovski, thanks for those links.
  12. Although the rest of this vehicle is white-washed, the upper armor plate (over the engine) remains gray. The 250/7 and 250/10 don't seem to suffer from this problem. How can I fix this?
  13. Dutch units? You've got to be kidding. Resistance against the Germans in May 1940 didn't even last a week, because the Dutch soldier only had equipment that was already obsolete for World War One standards (thanks to our beloved socialists). With that old rubbish they did amazingly well, but courage can't replace modern equipment. My grandfather fought at the Grebbenberg and his unit was decimated by the superbly armed and thoroughly trained Waffen-SS units. He and his comrades had hardly had the opportunity to fire a rifle, let alone to practice in earnest. But the Germans suffered pretty heavy losses against those ill-equipped, badly trained amateurs. Dutch partisans? Shooting up some lonely German staff cars and shaving the hair of hundreds of poor Dutch girls (after the war, mind you) that had a German boy friend. The only Dutch soldiers that had the opportunity to prove what they were worth fought at the eastern front and were treated like dirt after the war. Stop being so proud to be Dutch. There is precious little reason for it. There is also no reason to be ashamed, but Dutch units simply have no justification to be included in CMBB.
  14. Whether it is Combat Mission, Steel Panthers WAW, IL-2 Stormowik, Medieval Total War or Steel Beasts (the games I try to limit myself to), I always play as the Germans. Why? Because I admire their military achievements and history and I feel inspired by their fighting spirit and skill. Besides, their weaponry and tactics are by far the most interesting.
  15. Michael, I'm not sure whether I understand you correctly. So there is a CMMOS-mod available for Allied uniforms, which also allows the possibility to change the shoulder insignias, for example for the 51st Highland or 43rd Wessex division? And if so where can it be found? As far as I know there is no Allied Uniforms CMMOS Mod, but I might be wrong. I sure hope so...
  16. I've discovered a nice and probably pretty old site, called Tommy, The British Soldier in Combat Mission with a series of great looking insignias at http://britmods.freehosting.net/cmbrit.htm The problem is that the link to the insignia downloads seems to be dead. I wonder whether there is another site where they can be downloaded.
  17. A friend of mine just offered me a Geforce 4 Ti 4200 128 for a reasonable price. Is this the right card for Combat Mission?
  18. A couple of days ago I experienced the ATI Radeon/the fog has lifted-videocard drama. No fog, which was simply not acceptable. I now sold my Radeon card (and not exactly with profit, might I add) and will buy another one. One that will give me back my beloved fog... Please advise me which card I should buy in the price range of $100 to $200. No ATI and it should be compatible with DirectX 9.0 which I've installed and which is causing me lots of trouble with my favorite games Combat Mission and Medieval Total War.
  19. Yeah, this is one of these days my computer tries to drive me crazy (which isn't that hard as it should know by now). Anyway, thanks again, I will read my way through other peoples trouble... Perhaps that will cheer me up.
  20. Okay, thanks for the information. Another question. After installing this new video card and DirectX 9.0 one of my scenarios gets stuck when I try to start it. I use the 200% increase of forces option for one of the two sides, which never caused a problem before. Now it simply doesn't open... A strange problem, I know, but nevertheless very annoying. What can have caused this?
  21. After giving it some thought, I've decided not to accept it. I will try to change my Radeon video card. What is a good alternative (128 MB) and does allow the possibility of fog?
  22. Darn, that explains it. It is a ATI Radeon 9100 128 MB card. I wish I had realized that before! I will miss that fog...
  23. Today I've installed my new 128 MB video card and DirectX 9.0 as well. Now I can't use the Shift-W for weather/fog anymore. Can anyone tell me what causes this and how it can be solved?
  24. My copy arrived today (in Holland). Thanks again for your impressive sence of service. My compliments.
  25. I wonder what "fieldcraft" or "Indianerkrieg" (war of the Indians)exactly means. Is it digging in or close combat or what?
