  1. I played it as the Americans and I played using CMBB tactics. It was a slaughter house. Ah, but were you the slaughterer or the slaughterie?
  2. I still can't get over the whole "300 guns per 1Km" thing. Seeing as how 1km = 1000 meters, try sticking 5 132mm rocket spotters (320 tubes) on a 1000 by 1000 map and see what happens.
  3. Pah! If it's a 76 I have two words -- 'ka' and 'boom'. </font>
  4. Shaties69th, where the heck is my turn!? I so desperatly want to see what happens to that SU-76 I have in my sites!
  5. That would be "The Big Red One" starring Lee Marvin. You get to see a Sherman "Easy 8" with a German cross stenciled on the side roll by the mouth of a cave their are hiding. I've never figured out why someone hasn't started a company that specialized in mockup WWII era tanks to reant to Hollywood.
  6. Or replace the JS-2s with JS-3s Seriously, I just don't engage on the German's terms. No one-on-one and no long range slug fests. I can usually pull a 1 to 1 loss with tanks. Edit: Just managed a 70/30 win over the AI. [ July 18, 2003, 07:26 PM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  7. No napalm, but a crude for of cluster bombs are in game. Look at the loadouts on mid to late war German and Russian dedicated CAS planes like the Il-2. There should be a load out option called something like (5X50 bombs). What it means is 50 5kg bombs dropped at once, it does give a nice area effect.
  8. Bah, at least swamp thing would be able to tame the ants and mold. Oh well, we're heading for page 3 and still no sign of Plasteredbroodingsnail.
  9. Stranitsa deva Ah yshure nyet MG? (Page 2 and still no MG?) [ July 16, 2003, 04:54 PM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  10. Moldy waffle with pus and maggots But is it a Cheery or a Cherry Waffle. That's the question.
  11. The drunken hobo tank driver's Union is not pleased! Edit: Watched the new BattleField command movie. *drool* [ July 15, 2003, 04:02 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  12. Stay far far away from "The Keep"...fffffaaaarrrrrr away.
  13. Heck, last year I had more medical bills than I did gross earnings. Yet I still owed money to Uncle Sam at the end of the year. Someone explain that to me, please. God, right offs are a joke.
  14. I just ran a test using the mission editor. The only way you can use tanks as "cover" is if they are knocked out and burning. The smoke plume blocks LOS and the TAC-AI (or a human player for that matter) is unable to target the infantry squad.
  15. With the reduction of CSTS (Cowardly Soviet Tanker Syndrome) it makes the battle a bit easier for the Soviets. Still, shoot and scoot is a must for the Soviet player. As for beating the battle, here is what I did. I lined up about 10 JS-2s on the ridge north of town. The SU-122 (which lacked HC rounds ) were used a decoys/scouts to lure out AT guns and enemy tanks. AT guns were dealt with using either 122mm guns, HMGs, or the 76.2mm spotter* When enemy tanks showed up I had just about every tank I could muster "Shoot and Scoot" at once while using command delays to make sure they all popped up at once. When all was said and done, I had lost 9 (4 JS-2, 4-SU-122, 1 KV)tanks while the Germans had lost all 7. I managed a tactical victory and had every flag in my possesion by the time the game ended. On a side note, infantry played a very small part in the battle. 2 rifle platoons and Pioneer platoon were used to clear the village, all the other infantry units stuck around the tanks to help spot for them and to suppress any AT guns that popped up. Nothing looks better than a Tiger with 6+ yellow lines aimed at it. *Don't forget, use the 132mm Rocket spotter as a prep bombardment on the town. The delay time on it makes it about useless once the battle starts.
  16. Man, my e-mail is overflowing with bile flavored dreck today. Shosties4th - Jebus, you moron! I put Just one small flag on the map to encourage you to not take unessessary losses. Go ahead, keep human waving my MG42s, I need the extra kill points. P.S. That SU-76 of yours is in a bad spot. Like Rob found out, SU-76s and MG42 HMGs don't mix well. Robohn - Our epic battle drew to a close with a 70/30 win for me. Much like Axe2121, he learned that letting your troops play in the street is usually a very bad idea. As for you other fellows (read: maggots) who have extended challenges too me, I saddly must pass. My unpredictable medical condition(s) will most likly interfere with my ability to send PBEM files back and forth for a long while to come. I'll still around to pester you guys a bit though. You ain't getting off that easy!
  17. I see dead waffles... Speaking of a Bruis Willis style ass kicking: Shosties4th - Is trying to use smoke cover to get his troops into close quarters combat with my soldiers. News flash, failure factory, your rifle squads aren't the only ones with huge Firepower ratings. Robohn - Turn 36 of 35+ and so far he has taken 1 of 4 objectives and the one he took was the one I chose not to defend.
  18. According to my sources, ski troops will work perfectly already in the CMAK edition of the game. Straif </font>
  19. Real or not, get ready to want to throw the book against the wall, track down Mr. Sajer, and force feed that dense Frenchman an economy size order of Freedom fries. "Duhhhhhhh, sure we slaughtered the sons and fathers of the Russian people, destoryed their homes, stole their belongings, and declared them sub-human to boot. Yet I can't understand why they were angry with us."
  20. The T-34 was only praised because it could beat by the pnz IIIs and IVs. And for the fact that it could travel on ground that the PZIII or PZIV (Or the Sherman for that matter) had no chance of driving on without getting stuck. Once the panther was produced the 76 mm T-34 was ineffective as a tank except with the 85mm gun. Just as the 75mm Sherman was inneffective against the Panther. Except the 75mm Gun on the Sherman never had special AP rounds developed for it like the Russian 76.2mm did. The sherman however was still used because it was the most USEABLE tank of the war. the Western allies had more uses for that tank, such as the crocidile and minesweeper. And the T-34 was made in SU-122s, SU-85s, SU-100s, OT-34s, bridge layers, recovery vehicles, bulldozers, and mine clearers. *Fun fact, 75% of the SU-100s made during the war had their chasses taken from exsisting T-34s. The sherman DD could go in water where the T-34 could not. T-34 had snokel gear that allowed it to cross rivers while being completey submereged. (So did the German Tiger). Sure the T-34 couldn't float, but I don't think that Russia had a need to launch any major sea born invasions. That is why I will always love the sherman and not the T-34. Low profile, wide track base, sloped armor. The T-34 had all these traits, the Sherman had none, and all the above qualites can be seen in today's modern battle tanks. After all, it wasn't the Sherman that inspired the Germans to develop the Panther. Now, for Russian flub ups, let's talk T-26. I'd rather have towed AT guns than than a mechanized bread box.
  21. I also thought that they had developed their own SMG's only after recieving the short end of the stick from the SMG equipped Germans. So it appears they had them first then? The Russians developed SMG squads after thier experence in Finnland in 39/40 after running into SMG heavy Sissi squads (X2 Rifle X7 SMG) As for using them in game, they have 4 areas where they excell at: - Thick forests - Built up Urban areas - Night time/Bad weather (Any non-terrain feature that cuts visability way down) - Tank escort. Keeps nasty tank hunter teams at bay. The 9 man squads fit very nicely on the tanks, and the tank's firepower more than makes up for SMG squad's lack of long range punch. Still, as other have said, they burn through ammo very quickly and are useless at ranges beyond 100m.
  22. That's what you get for buying expensive tanks, Robohn. You should have followed Shosties4th's lead and bought A WHOLE F'N COMPANY OF SU-76!!!!!  *Nippy watches latest turn* On second thought, hold those "mad" emotes and double the shnaps ration to that 81mm mortar crew. Open top tanks and tree bursts make for a wonderful 4th of July display. [ July 05, 2003, 12:41 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  23. The Germans, meanwhile, had highly professional officers and NCO's and rarely seem to have suffered large-scale unit collapse. I think that the clear superiority of German infantry in CMBB is likely historically accurate... In the game at least, wouldn't that have more to do with unit experence levels than nationality? Green Volksturm or late war Luftwaffe infantry don't stand up very well against Reg and Vet Soviet Guards.
  24. Well, just a brief summery from the Game standpoint. SVT-40 rifle - Semi-Auto battle rifle with a ten round clip. Uses same cartarage as the Mos-NG rifle. Firepower wise, it doesn't matter much with regular rifle squads as they only get one per squad. However, early war paratroopers get 4 per squad, and that gives them a bit more punch at close range. Mos-NG rifle - Your Standard 5 shot bolt action rifle. Inferiour to the Mauser when it comes to in game firepower. PPSh SMG - The bain of German soldiers everywhere and one of the main advantages of soviet infantry. Outclasses the German MP40 SMG. Russian rifle platoons always pack at least two or three. And the dreaded SMG squad carries nothing but the PPSH. DP LMG - Slightly inferiour to the German MG-34, and both are really outclassed by the MG-42. The thing about Russian gear is that it is cheap. Right now, Shosties4th is stompinh my Panzergrenider Company into the ground with a Battalion of Green Russian infantry and 2 Platoons of SU-76s.
  25. I guess your right,what a pointless little doodad. </font>
