  1. I've had a similar thing happen - two PSW 222's, one in front of the other. First one gets hit by a BT tank and suffers a catastrophic explosion. Second one is immediately abandoned </font>
  2. Ah, I see the problem. What you need is a spotter for the mortars. Any HQ unit will do. Just set the mortars on a reverse slope (and out of harms way) while the "spotting" unit creeps into a good location with LOS on the target. Failing that, a 75mm or 81mm mortar FO will work wonders too. You can see how to do this in my AAR of when I fought Hansson. Read it here.
  3. My opinion is the German infantry's edge (at least til mid-war) almost entirely rests on the mg34 light mg embedded in the squads. If it weren't for that they'd just be nine guys with bolt-action rifles against twelve Russians with murderous smgs. That lmg's firepower has saved my bacon more than once. I love the Panzergrenider Platoons with their 2 LMGs per squad. That really kicks both the short range and long range firepower.
  4. Enough with the prose, time for a short sitrep: Axe2121 - Oh the AAR on this battle is going to make for some great reading. The "what my opponent could have done better" section alone will be novel lenght. Robohn - Still away on a business trip. He left just in time to miss his T-34s getting pwned by my Marder IIIs. Shosties4th - We had just started our game when his modem cut out, so it's still too early to tell just how badly he is going to lose.
  5. ASS69 BAHH!!! You're gonna get a draw at best you non-hill-climbing, non-marsh-crossing, cold lead chucking MasterGoodale - GrandMaster TNT Chucker wannabe!! I'm gonna use your singed eyeballs as jewels for my soon to be received crown puss nads!! GRAGRAGRGRAGRAGR!!! Oh please, beating down Axe2121 is like beating a small child..only less noble. X-Lax2121 is the guy who lost a member of the pride of Germany's tank fleet to a T-Twentys**t. Do you not understand the implacations of this!? This blunder alone should have caused the spirits of Patton, Rommel, and Zhukov to manifest themselves in his house, kick his ass, force feed him the game CD, and then break every strategy game he possesses for tic-tac-toe on up! Axelgrease, please, hit the ceasefire button before your tactical ineptitude causes your computer to implode upon itself like the house from 'Poltergeist'.
  6. I don't think anyone has really gotten angry with another yet. You didn't get the PBEM file from Axe2121 after one of his Uber-Kitties died. Much angst followed...
  7. I haven't witnessed many HE KOs in CMBB - apart from aircarft bombs - so I was wondering if the non-penertrating HE "shock" hit was modelled. I have searched, but could find no previous thread where this question was definitely answered. I'm pretty sure it's modeled. I've watched KV-2 rattle PZIIIs to death in a single shot with "Non-penatrating/No damage" hits. 150/152 HE rounds will quickly break main guns and tracks on most tanks.
  8. "Cherry Waffle" It's spring time in the Reich And Axe2121s Uber-Tanks are burning Thanks to sweet napalm and TNT "Ode to SoddBall" Sharpshoots only have one shot The world is awash in flame throwers My sanity has slipped away "A glass of Goodale" T-44s and JS-3s lead the charge Explosives being chucked by furious maggots I lay slathered in TNT Edit: Haiku - For poets who are to lazy to rhyme [ June 26, 2003, 06:29 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  9. Well, to compare the two main sides (Germany vs Russia) in terms of "power" I'd say you would have to split it like this: German: Better Tanks Russia: Better Infantry As always, the Germans have the long line of Uber-Kitties like the Tiger, Panther, KT, ect. Plus the abundance of 88mm Flak guns other very effective AT weapons like AT guns and the Panzerfaust, and Magnetic mines. Russia however, excels in the infantry department, usually is has a manpower advange no matter the year. Squads and Platoons usually outnumber the Germans in terms of orgonization. Firepower is better than that of German squads too. And even in June of 41' Russia gets the SMG squad. Tanks usually have large HE and canister loads, and infantry helping Assault Guns like the SU-76 are very cheap in the later war year. Edit #1 - If I had to play only one side, I'd go with the Russians. By the end of the war they were catching up (much more than the Americans and Brits in my opinion) to the German tanks. SU-85M and the SU-100 level the playing field a bit. Edit #2 - Or just play Uber-Finn. They kill anything. Get some lend lease German STUGs and some Sumoi Packing Sissi sqauds and you can kick anybodies ass. [ June 26, 2003, 04:46 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  10. What do I have to do, ask nicely?  If you want something to happen, try blindly charging your heavy armor at him. It sure is making our game interesting.
  11. Oddly enough, I'm engaged in a battle like this right now. Shosties4th and myself are battle over medium size map with a single small flag at the rear of the map. As the defender, I can't afford to engage in suicidal defence. The attack can't afford to rush headlong into my defences either.
  12. They never got the chance to put in the Model for the JS-3. The armor data is spot on, but the visual model you see is just a place holder. There are still some other units that do that as well like the early war captured French tanks in german service. As for the JS-3, put it hull down against a KT that is also hull down and watch what happens. It's like two giants shooting at each other with sling shots.
  13. Nope, no flamethrowers. What's the point when the weather's so cold your tiddle freezes as it leaves your dong? In very cold weather, flamethrowers are used for making tea. Yes, instead the force composition for both sides shall be a company worth of conscript sharpshooters with a single shot each who are backed up by Machinegun-less SP guns that are armed with nothing but AP rounds. ...hell, I better not give him any ideas.
  14. You're not slathered in TNT, you're basted in Napalm. Mmmmmmm....that be some fine BBQ.    [ June 25, 2003, 09:06 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  15. Jebus, that ass kicking PlatCmdr gave me has totally upset my cosmic carma. That and this Finnish Heavy metal I listen to while I play. Because: *Warning "Cherry Waffle" Spoiler ahead!* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Axe2121 Just lost a PzIV/H to...two T-TwentyS**ts. OT-130s to be exact. It has no main gun, just an MG and a flame thrower. I knew he'd try rushing them. That's why I had them setup so that anything coming around the corner in the street would be in range. The PzIV blew up real nice too. It took a HT with it. What can I say but:    GARARARGARARGAR TNT is the sux0r! Napalm is the r0x0r! GARARRGARRG    Andy the angry emote says: "Pwned by a T-26. Noob." - Edited for extra  [ June 24, 2003, 11:24 PM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  16. Since a mine field was present, chances are that a pioneer team (from either side) auto targeted the minefield for some satchel charge lovin. I've seen demo charges take out multipe small buildings at once.
  17. Are you sure you want to admit to playing WWII Online in a public forum? </font>
  18. (0 X skills) + (0 X luck) =       Andy the angry emote says: "Sending a Panther into a Gaggle of T-34s at point blank range isn't bad luck. It's stupid. I haven't seen armor tactics this brain dead since I played WWII Online." - (I think I just found my new sig quote) Oh, you have played "Inferno" then? </font>
  19. I'm about ready to surrender to Nippy in it. My lack of skills, coupled with a lack of luck, is producing undesired results. Wow, I just watched lastest movie file. Although, I'm not sure what you are "GGGGGRRRRRRRR"ing about. Was it: A. The Panther that got its ass kicked by 2 T-34s. B. The infantry platoon that was "fired" on by 3 FT tanks. C. The 152mm Strike that brewed an armored unit that I haven't seen yet. [ June 24, 2003, 05:41 PM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
  20. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by Soddball: I don't know what you hoors are whining about on Cheery Waffle. The unit picks work like this. Whatever you have, your opponent has the equivalent - so if one side has (for example) a flamethrower tank, so does the other, which arrives on exactly the same turn as its opponent. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well that's cleared up any lingering doubt Dave and I may have had about what we were facing, maggot. Don't count on it. You have no idea what SoddBall considers "equal".
  21. I have returned from the "fascinating" world of military - where common sense does not apply... I thought playing against Masterofbotchedtactics would have gotten you used to things like that. "GARARARAGARARRG FT tanks and Marders lead the charge! RARARAGARGAR  "
  22. Stuff like this is evident in WW2 also or what do you think? The genious Red Army operations in Finland, Stalin liquidating his intelligent elite due to paranoia and then sending party activist captains to command battallions. Don't forget than among the officers liquidated were many of the proponents of combined arms warfare. Even bringing the subject up officaly usually led to a visit by the NKVD.
  23. Nippy and I continue to chuck TNT with wild abandon in Cheery Waffle. He keeps chiding me for my lack of tactics. I would argue my choices are right in keeping with a scenario with this wacky a force mix. Delusion is such a sad, sad, thing. Lets see: 2 Dead Brummbars 3 Dead HTs 1 Damaged PZIII FT And I've yet to lose a single tank. Yeah, let's blame the force mix. Rare units always make me charge tanks into dense forests without infantry support.
  24. The only thing that will kill a JS-3 is a JagdTiger or the 128mm AT gun. Your only other option is close assault with Panzerfaust/Grenade Bundles/Magnetic mines/ect.
  25. Ferdinands did come with a MG34 with 600rds of ammo for dismounted crew use...but thats no use to you while in a vehicle with no real safe and effective way of using it against swarming enemy infantry. Ah, I did forget to mention something about that in my last post. During the battle of Kursk, the Ferdinand crew got so desperate to fight off infanty that they would fire the above mentioned MG-34 down the barrel of the main gun while there was no 88mm round loaded and the breech was open. Not my idea of a good time... [ June 23, 2003, 04:56 AM: Message edited by: Nippy ]
