  1. In the "Assault on Perano" scenario one set of allied waypoints shifted on the next turn, playing against the AI. Moving allied tanks along the left fork in the road and down towards the shallow ford my, carefully placed waypoints shifted from the road to the hillside about a 1/2" off to the left. It was actually a column of four tank waypoints that had shifted, all the way down to the ford and up the axis side, slowing everything down as the tanks were now driving on the hillside. I was able to get them back on the road, in fact the slow down saved my butt as I was better able to synchronize this frontal attack with an attack from the rear of the town! Even so I had spent some time making sure the individual waypoints were set correctly, and placed in the center of the road, so it was annoying to find they had shifted. Has anyone else had this happen or am I just lucky?! Tim S

  3. IMHO the most critical aspect of the German defeat at Stalingrad was their own unshakable belief that they and they alone, were the best things since sliced bread. Repeated warnings from the Rumanians and Hungarians went unheeded because, after all, what could they possibly understand of the situation! Until the actual encirclement of the 6th army, it pretty much out gunned the Russians, even though allot of German equipment didn't work too well in the intense winter cold. The British infantry were essentially Lee Enfield bound just as the German infantry was essentially Mauser bound. US infantry would have been more capable in matching the Russian's firepower but regardless, either or both of the allied powers would have presented a more cohesive effort than the German's one man show. The joint efforts of the Allies proved time and time again to be the real trump card in overall victory, verses the somewhat single handed efforts of the Axis powers. This applies especially to the Germans and Japanese who could have had the war winning strategy of a two front attack, from the east and the west, on the Soviet Union.

  5. A translation of Russian was done on this forum in the early days of the CMBB demo. I don't know, or haven't checked if there are more phrases in the full game. The difficulty, at least for me, was that a simple 00080000.wav Gunner! At the enemy! Fire! didn't do it. I think what's needed is the wave # plus the Russian phrase, written in western script, then the translation. I don't know if there is such a thing as western script for Russian but I'm hoping it's possible to do.   6. Here’s the deal. In the Partisan scenario I thought I would find away through the wooded areas and avoid the road. There is what looks to be a kind of zigzag path in the woods in the upper part of the screen close to the Axis start off point. On turn one, having moved everything to the upper part of the green box in preparation for the mad dash, I moved all my vehicles though the woods, bypassing the village altogether trying to set myself up on the highgound overlooking the village down on the left. The waypoints have to be set just right through the woods as I assume the path there is very narrow. I took a lot of time making sure the waypoints were clear of (red Line) wooded areas. I know the path does go through because one of my vehicles did acaually make it on one of my attempts. Anyway during turn 2 the first PSW 222 just stopped right in the middle of the zigzag jamming everything up! I assumed that it’s waypoint had infact overlapped a non passable treed area. I decided to do an Alt-Q Auto Save knowing that I would be returned to the start of turn 2 and therefore have a second shot at adjusting it’s waypoint. Unfortunately it was not to be, moving the waypoint after a restart using Auto Save resulted in an instant computer freeze on “Go”. So far this is the only scenario (and at this tight area within this particular scenario) that this happens. Could it be that there really is no way through after all? But a crash because of that?
  7. In the Partisan scenario e.g., if I alter my chosen route, by dragging the guideline(s), of (Axis) transport at the beginning of my turn, no problem. But...if I save my game sometime during my turn using Alt-Q, restart CMBB and open the "saved game" (which brings me back to the beginning of the turn I saved) then, if I alter the route the game freezes instantly requiring a full reset. Didn't realize this part of the forum was for in use for CMBB as well! Windows XP Pro Athlon 1200 Plenty of everything else!

  13. Thanks to a previous post we now have english translations of most of the Russian phrases. I thought it would make sense to attempt a phonetic English translation of some of them. What I thought would be a 5 minute exercise turned out to be a few hours of tyring to the “stresses” right. I decided to use the tilde (~) to break up longish words so we know where those stresses are. The other difficulties I had were sounds with no english equivalent and hidden but audable tonal inflections.   14. CMBB seems to be aware of the delay in the movement command that must have gone on in real life, not withstanding the experience or fitness level of the troops. We think of the game as Germany vs Russia but in reality many different nations made up the USSR. Many languages and dialects were spoken in the front lines that presumably had to be known by the command structure as well. Also making sure that NCO's etc were from the same country or area as the troops was vitally important. It must have been a nightmare! The same situation might befall the Germans, but only at the operation level, as the Axis powers tended to fight as individual nations. They same was true of the Allies but at least there was a somewhat common language.(The Poles, Free French, Ghurkas are the exceptions perhaps). On a different note, do the "Russians" seem more aggressive in the Yelnia battle when "commanded" by the AI as opposed to when they are yours to command?
  15. I found this on a Google search of the very odd looking Russian anti-tank rifle. The caption says it all. Unfortunately I can't show the photo but it's of a group of 4 soldiers prone, in the ankle(!)deep grass of the steppe, waiting for whatever may come their way! It's a photo right out of the CMBB Kursk scenario and the caption says it all.... Anti tank rifle teams wait for the German advance. A perfect illustration that no matter how bad your job is, someone had one worse....! Apparently the PTRD-1941 anti tank rifle was about as good as a pea shooter against MK III's and up, although it had marginal success against I's and II's. This explains the lack of kills many have had using this weapon in the Demo. Infantry anti tank weapons
